This used to be me just a while ago. For a start, avoid buying into hypes, try to diversify and most importantly always do your own research before buying into anything or get a good beginner-friendly financial expert to manage that for you. I too started recently (less than a year in) and I've made close to 6 digits in profit. Goodluck!

Hi Thiago, if you want to invest for the long term with the S&P 500 you'd be looking to buy shares of the SPY (that's the ticker). You could dollar cost average in and buy the same cash value of stock ($100, $500, $1,000) each month and continually build a position over time.

I have been with IB for about a year now. I have yet to see any gains (it has been a rough year). Having said that, I am wondering how might one withdraw eventual profits from my fund? I know withdrawals come from 'settled cash'. I mean, will my profits (when they hopefully come) automatically go to my 'settled cash' for me to withdraw?
You could consider using an FA. Here, they make it sound like it's so easy and basic when in reality, It's some sort of skilled gambling. I found this out the wrong way. Had to eventually settle for using one and though I'm not netting a million, it's one of the smartest decisions I ever made

If you open a paper account you will be able to see the stocks and options however, if you do not fund your account and purchase market data you will be viewing the market 15 minutes behind what is actually happening. It's super important to have real-time data when trading so just a note on the difference.
How would you get proof that you own shares say X amount of shares in a company, so that you apply to the company for some sort of benefit perks of owning that amount of shares/stocks? is there a screen that wills how your name and that you hold X amount of shares in whatever?

If you're a buy and hold investor it doesn't really matter as Millennial Finance noted, but if you're more active and trading with options contracts or swing/day trading you definitely need market data. If you don't have it all the prices and charts will be 15 minutes behind what is actually happening in the market.

Hi Tamas, if you want to sell shares and make sure you don't lose money you'd have to look at the average price you paid for all the shares. This is a column you can turn on in your portfolio and it will show you the price you need to sell at to make sure you earn a profit. Also sell above the average price paid to purchase otherwise you're losing money.
hi, can i ask, how do you time the entry in IBKR? for example, i timed to purchase apple at 140usd, but when i made my order, the average price i bought is somehow higher than the price i timed to enter.
If im not wrong, the price in ibkr has a 15 min delay, so when you place your order, the price showed is 15 mins late, this could be why it is not as accurate.
