Really helpful, thanks. Been gifted a well used (but still sewing) 1600p and [EDIT]: also managed to find a service manual so I'm looking forward to getting the covers off and giving it a once over.

Right. That’s a popular platform and several manufacturers have a version. Almost all are good.

Pity they didn't make it to use class 15 bobbins and needles. Otherwise seems ALMOST like a vintage machine.
BTW, where is it made?

It’s a high speed rotary hook and they are rarely 15 class. Because it has the factory type hook and bobbin case, that makes it compatible with those machines in many respects, and makes the parts interchangeable, available, and affordable.
It’s made in Taiwan. Good sewing machine stuff originates from there usually.
