They scaled it back this year to "free donut with any purchase", but it's apparently affordable enough to give away free donuts every day of the year. krispy cream is the bane of my existence, i bought so many donuts over the 3 year i lived in australia, i think i could of bought at least 1000$ in shares at their company
Krispy Kreme nailed the marketing with that strategy. It's definitely lured me in a few times with that free donut light. Might be worth doing something similar at Cakeboy.
The thing about chain shops as that they have the operational capacity to do that easily, not so much for a small owner operator shop- the cost for even a non-specialty is so high, not to mention the labour involved.
I'd recommend them follow a Crumble Cookie model. Have them create a "viral" donut once a month to bring back returning customers. Maybe once a quarter do a "free donut day" for promo. They got this
Boy does this sound familiar. I owned a kombucha brewery. Hardest part was it was so new to our community we had to educate everyone. There was room for business. We didn't do terrible but after starting the business we added 4 kids. My husband was a mechanical engineer and it was a lot of pressure when we knew he could go back into the workforce. Still miss it. Our customers miss us. It was a very seasonal product. We were making about $1000 in 4 hours at our local farmers markets but we were stretched thin for help and the season would dwindle. Best memories for us though. ❤
It sounds like you had an incredible journey with your kombucha brewery, and it’s clear you put a lot of heart into it. There was definitely a moment when kombucha drinks started really taking off, but you’re right-educating people about such a new product can be the hardest part. Balancing a growing family and a business must have been challenging, but it’s great to hear you created such memorable experiences and had a positive impact on your community. Thank you for sharing your story!
I think the main takeaway from this is not to give up...when the first efforts failed many would have given up, but continuing on when others fail puts you ahead of the competition
Absolutely! Perseverance is key. Many give up after initial setbacks, but pushing through when others don’t can definitely set you apart and lead to success.

I like the transparency when it comes to things not working. Also epic editing mate, top shelf quality, somehow on the sweet spot between being too TV-like and too cheap phone vlog style.
The core issue isn't marketing-related; it's fundamentally about location. Your current placement in what appears to be a shopping center is problematic for a donut shop. Most people aren't willing to go out of their way for a donut, and those who do buy are likely making impulse purchases rather than being loyal, repeat customers. To address this, I'd strongly recommend relocating to a more strategic spot. Ideally, you want a location with high visibility and easy access, preferably with a drive-thru option.
It's not a shopping centre though, it's in an opened area space with several food choices, ample parking around and apartments nearby. I usually go there every couple weeks when they host trivia nights. It's a great space

basically those free donuts are marketing strategy to attract new customers and spread the company's presence. This video is really interesting, subbed.
It just shows business is not luck, hard work alone is not enough but also without hard work it does not work. The majority of small business owners lack the knowledge or strategy to make it succeed
I think the main problem with this shop that nobody mentioned is that they have overextended. It’s a big shop for very ordinary products that could be sold in a kiosk. They need to figure out a way to either scale back or be inclusive of other agendas that make sense. Eg. Starbucks is not just a place for coffee but to meet up and get work/study done.
I clicked on this video having no idea this was in Bowden! I remember buying a donut from these guys a few years ago, genuinely one of the best donuts I've ever had. I had no idea they were struggling but I'm so glad you were able to help
I don't mean to be negative here, but at the end when they said they want to do a cross between a donut and croissant and calling it a "Doughsant", I'm like come on, it's an old recipe and people call it Cronuts.
It would be very interesting to see how long the increased sales lasts for versus how much money was spent on freebies. For such a low revenue potential business I can’t help but think they’ll struggle to pay off the costs the freebies before they need to do another big promo to get people back again. Also they need to on top of pastry trends. A croissant x donut was a trend already and it was called a Cronut. Rehashing an old trend and calling it something different likely won’t go down well with the ‘cool kids’ that they’re trying to appeal to.

@@geoffmerritt That may be the case but the word "vegan" can deter a lot of people and greatly reduce limit their demographic. Social media success can vary, and not every business will go viral. However, even smaller, niche businesses can benefit from consistent, engaging content. It’s about finding what works for your audience and staying authentic. Sustainability often comes from building a community and fostering real connections.

Creating content can be straightforward, and you don’t need a big budget to get started. You can start by using just your phone to capture and share your ideas. Test your content across multiple platforms to see where it gains traction. If you find that one platform is performing exceptionally well, focus more of your efforts there, especially if you’re limited on time. As for getting attention, think creatively about how to stand out. For example, they recently introduced a new crème brûlée flavour, which helped generate buzz and engage our audience. It’s all about finding innovative ways to capture interest and leveraging what works best for you. Keep experimenting, and you’ll find what resonates with your audience!

Hey Davie, been following you for years. Recently moved to Adelaide and noticed this shop is just around the corner from me. I have a product I am planning to start an ecommerce store for; however, there are a few legal grey areas surrounding it. I’m planning to incorporate my business in Dubai where it is legal to sell the products in question. However, as I plan to target the Australian market, I’m unsure if I’m still breaching any legal requirements. I previously created a 7 figure ecommerce store selling contact lenses from Australia to the US, It is illegal to sell from the US to US customers due to it being a medical device, however the same rules don’t apply to Australian businesses where my company was based. I assume the same would apply for the company I am looking to build. Due to the legal grey area, there aren’t many competitors advertising in the Australian market. Whilst the US market leader is making around 2M profit/month. I plan to contact a business law specialist, but open to any other recommendations.
Incredible Video Davie, I'm very happy for them! At the end of the video, I saw that you're ok to help some struggling businesses in the comments! I’m facing a very high CPM (+$70) which makes me un-profitable even if my creative had %5 CTR and 5% Conversion Rate. I’ve been doing dropshipping 2 years now and now switched to E-commerce because of you! I thought I may get lower CPM if I had an original content shot for my branded product, I tested tons and tons of creatives (Images/UGCs) and all are having very high CPM. I’m about to give up the Ecom dream because of this cpm issue, I tried different pixels, ad accounts, and business accounts but that didn’t fix it. I hope you can respond with 1 sentence that can help me with this matter. Much thanks Davie, you’re my inspo!
Don't go on CPM go by the profitability and lifetime customer value. CPM is a vanity metrics people get so caught up in. My CPM is $100-$200. You can go broad, narrow, change to LLA, test more creatives, copy, video vs images. The most important part is trigger their desires if you 100% now that.. It does not matter about CPM as my CVR is insane, the AOV constantly improving. EVERY business is different every ad account every niche

There is one other one! The first one we did was with a company called Daily Puzzles: ruclips.net/video/ttXjGQZfcYI/видео.html
I appreciate your feedback! We are currently working on some more!
Hi Davie Im a business owner in Lebanon we sell pine nuts direct to consumer from our processing plant, and I have been wondering how to scale it because the market is too small I was considering adding more products and going the retail route I would love to hear your opinion!
Glad I stumbled upon your channel. Would love to see more business boosting content. You might just be getting on a niche on RUclips.
Appreciate the feedback! We've got some more business boosting content coming!
great video and very informative how to help business , hoping to see more of this format
My concern is what should someone in the same position do if they don't have someone like you to bare the cost of free doughnuts
I've had a bedding business for 7 years now, we only sell online,. I'm part of your community on daily mentor! I'm just not sure how to scale.
Hi if you don’t mind attaching the link to your website I’d much appreciate it.
Thank you
can you tell me who your target market is?
Hey davie thanks for this type of content , Iam from India and 17 , my store just crossed 40K$ sales this months Iam doing monthly 8-16K sales started 3 months ago , thanks for inspiring us , and also i think due to your RUclips channel is Australian that’s why its gets low reach but cause i had to do a lot of research to get to your channel and Iam Indian , so maybe to get a global audience you should Tgt for global , but the reality is also that real knowledge doesn’t get that much reach as flashy cars and planes gets those gurus sale courses and they fall for it may you achieve huge success you are looking for on RUclips bigger than all those gurus 🎉❤
What kind of businesses would bring in that much money in freaking India
Unless it’s a big one
Super inspiring video. For me as a marketeer with zero knowledge of making viral video's this made me think about all kinds of oppurtunities.
how is this not blowing up
keep on the good work man
I love to see this! Davie you are the goat!
LOVE THE BISCOFF DONUT, YUM, I GET THIS WHEN I TRAVEL THERE NOW!!!!!
It was soo good!
Mate, now I want to go down to Bowden and check them out. Great work helping a local Adelaide biz
Please do!
Thank you for helping these lovely people with their business, tons of value in this video. Brilliant.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man! Your videos are amazing.
You deserve more success!
They should offer a icecream doughnut sandwich in the Summer months, I'd crush one of those.
That's a great idea!
PURE GENIUS.. those SM tips are gold! thanks heaps Davie ❤
Volume negates variance in a lot of areas, great vid!
Banger video Davie, can't believe no-one else is talking about those PYTHONS at 9:41 🔥
May be a silly idea but instead of a cronut or “Doughssant”, can they do the opposite? a crescent shaped doughnut? odd idea but it may work?
That's actually a very cool idea. Not sure how it'll be made but that is definitely different and could be very popular on social media!
Awesome! 🙏 You're showing that it's not a "luck" but you really have power to make a difference and grow your business. Maybe in future something with e-commerce with good product which cannot increase their sales after lots of effort (that's me 💀I have company which produces neon LED signs like cokeboy has in more innovative way but in Poland)
I love these videos David! I hope i can see more of them
Brillant video. Definitely something you should do a lot more of!
This is the real content 🙏❤
Thanks for helping them! ❤
This deserves 100x more views Davie, well done
You might laugh but, Belshaw's Donut Robot is very simple and will draw a crowd very fast when they see it working.
The video was so amazing that I couldn't resist not commenting (actually this is my first one ever). Thumbs up for what you're doing and all the content you share, Davie! It so educational, captivating and nobel! I am really becoming a fan of yours. Keep up the amazing work! Greetings from Bulgaria.
Wow, thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to leave your first comment! 😊Greetings to you in Bulgaria! Stay tuned for more! 🙌
The type of content we need thanks Davie
So they increased their revenue with direct labor. But I would've love to see you do a financial audit to decrease costs (var and fixed) as well as increasing revenue via indirect labor like online, pre orders, etc.
pre ordes ? bro they arnt selling a game or a sneaker. "new donut special edition coming, you csan pre order now until they drop "
How about a giant birthday cake doughnut 👍
Another fab video!!
Love this style of content!! Educational and inspiring. Great job Dave!!
Honestly, the location is the biggest issue 100%. Aside from the location I can see this type of business flourishing else where.
what is that black sunglass, brand name and model number you were wearing at the start of the video? 5:34
You have to sell it with a beverage. Summer bundle
Great idea. Definitely something to consider.
I definently need your help for my restaurant ‘ Wing Crave’ in Greenville, SC
Thank you for reaching out! If you want to be part of the next video apply here: forms.gle/7GvfPkYiPrdwqzyf7
Awesome video Davie, love seeing small businesses thrive!🚀
Love this video. Appreciate you being transparent with the difficulties but also showing the success they had with the free Donut giveaway. They gotta keep up with the innovations and posts to sustain the growth. I'd love to see an update video with them in 6-12 months!
I own a solo video business where I do shoots for local restaurants. Small food business have some of the most wonderful, heartfelt, amazing people running them. They're truly passionate about the stuff they make. I help them get a more views with the videos I make for them which translates to more sales. This video inspired me to bring up a viral video idea like what you did for this donut shop so I can help them be more successful!
Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I agree - keeping up with innovation and consistent content is key.
It’s great to hear you’re helping out local restaurants! The hospitality industry can be brutal-especially right now. Best of luck with your viral video ideas; I’m sure it’ll make a big impact!
The cross between a croissant and a donut is a pretty standard thing a called a cronut 😂
They should 100% do a cross of the viral dubai chocolate and a donut, then they can document the creation process, and hit on the auditory crunch that everyone looks for
That's a great idea. The Dubai chocolate has been all over socials!
These videos are amazing, your content is awesome, and I don't understand how this kind of stuff doesn't go super viral.
Great work to you and your team, I hope you crush it and achieve the results you're looking for.
I greatly appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
God this series is so good!
I would niche to sourdough instead of yeast if that works with sweet things
Davie, Great video mate. I have a Sydney based business thats a Tech Based asset Management Company. We use primarily Drones, and are registered as a Certified and Licenced Drone Service Provider. The business is getting off the ground, slowly, but we massively need to do things with social and advertising, and I feel like the drone content would be a no brainer for these, I just dont know how to execute. Much like Tom and Rhi, I have a son who I desperately want to do better for. I was living in my car not long ago, and now couch surfing, while trying to reinvest in my business, in order to grow. I would love to sit down and get your opinion of what we could do better and how to achieve that. Appreciate you. - Ryan
@@AliMekkawy what's your targeting like? Sounds like it's too narrow
Yeah it sounds like a targeting issue. What if you start very broad and make your way down or even use the LAA from your broad campaigns.
It' broad targeting guys already!
It's usually the niche, I have tried a store in the health & wellness space and CPM was $40 and i have a store in the crafting niche and it is $8
13:57 Did you post the donuts on fire 🔥 on social? Looks great
Fantastic❤❤❤❤ so happy for them. Great video content for entrepreneurs
After this video i started subscribing to everything in your description. You just don't see this value in internet😮🎉🎉
This is a very big W. Keep it up 🔥
