Balham ¦ (2/6) ¦ Love Your London ¦ Tooting Bec, London Sewing Machine Museum, the Commons and Lido

We're back in Balham. Well, Tooting Bec to be precise. Tristán White and Sharon Crawford tell you about Tooting Bec station, and then visit the fascinating London Sewing Machine Museum (part of the Wimbledon Sewing Machine Company) where we are shown the two most expensive sewing machines in the world: one owned by Princess Victoria, the other one of the first to be invented (by Barthélemy Thimonnier). This is a really fascinating place and even if you couldn't care about sewing machines you will still enjoy it, thanks to the bubbly Lauren Rose who showed us around. We then visit the Heaver Estate, talk about muralist Richard Bagguley, and visit Tooting Commons, where we discover a piece of petrified forest dating from the late Jurassic period, and chat about the history of the famous Lido, the largest outdoor swimming pool in the UK.
