- How to permanently disable the lid lock on a Fisher & Paykel top load washer.
My first speaking instructional video! Please give me your feedback!
I forgot to put in the video to make sure you unplug the power to the washer first.
You sir are a wizard! Thank you for this video. My locking mechanism went out (error code 235 I think it was), and it was going to be a week before the repair person could come out. No kids in household, so I'm going to leave it. The 3 little tabs are now 2 little tabs, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the thing holding together. What I find really amazing is that you could do this repair without any cursing. I couldn't.
I cannot tell you enough how thankful I am for your video. You have saved me hundreds $$ !!
Legend 👍🏼👏🏼
Totally and easily solved my problem without having to replace the whole locking mechanism. Don’t have toddlers to worry about, so these seems like a good fix. Can’t thank you enough for the help.
Hey Dean, THANK YOU for an outstanding video and tutorial. We were getting the '235' error code on our F&P washsmart eco 8.5 top loader. I found your video and as we don't have young kids etc decided to give removing the lid lock a crack. Both your video and explanation were super easy to follow and as I type this the machine is back in action. Thanks again, I reckon you just saved a few AU$100's. If you're ever in Melbourne I'll buy you a beer or a coffee, your choice. You're a champion Dean cheers mate.
He used to live in the country I live in (New Zealand) until the year I was born (2012) and now he lives in Canada
Dean, awesome video. My wife thanks you a thousand times. The lid lock problem appeared Saturday morning with a full load and many more to follow. Back in action. Thanks so much.
Sunday night last minute load for hubby's work clothes...and the lid won't lock. Your video saved me. Thank you so much! 🙋👍
I wanted to scream at the manufacturer of my washer and take a sledge hammer to it. After all, it's MY washer now and I wanted to open it. I was not in control of my washer! You are a very good teacher! You saved my sanity, my washer and its manufacturer. Thank you!
I'm currently having an issue with mine, I think I've lost my sanity.... I tapped the lid back on with a hammer gently... Still wasn't working, annnd I'll let your imagination figure out what happened next.. I now need a new washing machine 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ my poor neighbours would have been wondering what on earth was going on 😅
Thanks, I first checked the ohms of the switch and it was fine so rather than buy a new switch I found your video. It is great, the modification I did was to just pull the spring off the lid lock and move it to the down position. The orange piece was glued or something. I like the vinegar hack I just read for cleaning in the comments as well!
Very very helpful. Wish I'd been able to remove the top tab correctly, but even without doing that elegantly it all worked out in the end. Thank you very much!
Video was very helpful. Described exactly what i needed to do and it worked. Thanks!!!
very useful, although I bought the replacement part before watching this useful hack, I will save the old one with a broken tongue incase it ever breaks again :-) very good instructions, Thanks Dean
Thank you so much. My machine stopped working with a "close the lid" message, even though it was already closed. Turned out the pin was not moving. Just freeing it up by pushing it in after removing the plastic lid got the machine going again.
This fix worked ONLY FOR A FEW LOADS. The orange part/lever will not stay in the position indicated. Guess is because the machine vibrates and also shakes when out of balance during spin cycles.
NOTE: Was able to permanently secure orange lever in position by running a bead of Super Glue on opposite side of O Ring. FIX NOW WORKS.
Cheers, just fixed my machine after several hours of trying to make it work
I don't usually comment on RUclips but can't skip pass. Millions thanks Dean : )
This was helpful keep the videos coming brother
YESSSSSS! she spins!! You're a gem
Amazing! Managed to fix my machine (lock had snapped), now working again (disabled)
Awesome video Dean. Thanks mate. I wish I had of seen this video years ago.
Thank you for the video,
My washing machine is working again!!
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you! You're a life saver!
Hi Dean, thank you for this! This is the problem I'm having with my Fisher & Paykel model WA1068G1 washer. It's not possible to remove the lid on my model as you've demonstrated. I'm wondering if I need to first remove the lid and then remove the whole top assembly to get to the lock sensing device. If so, I can't figure out how to do that. Any suggestions?
To save pulling the lock apart is it possible to bridge to cables on the connector & leave the lock off ?
you bloody beauty shes a goer!
all good lad works a treat thumbs up mate
Thank you so much!
Thanks for your video.
We've been having issues with the loc err and I thought by removing the lock mechanism like in your vid it would fix that. I was careful to replicate your steps exactly, but were still getting the loc err.
Any suggestions? Ty.
Hi Dean, amazing video. I've done what you have shown & removed the mechanism yet the lid locked light is still on. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks
Thanks for the video! Does disabling the lid latch effect the machine turning off when it's off balance?
No, the oob switch will still work regardless if the lid switch/lock is disabled or not.
excellent....thanks dean!
Your welcome
thankyou so much, this helped alot!
You're welcome, glad it helped.
Hi Dean, thanks for this video, but what problem are we trying to solve by disable the lid lock? I currently have an issue with the lid lock, my machine won’t spin because the lid lock doesn’t work properly. I opened this part and found everything is fine inside, the orange tab will be in the right position when the lid is open or close, does it mean it will not solve my issue by removing the latch? This is the fault, the locking pin on the locking mechanism can still go in and lock the lid before the spin process, however, it pops out after 2-3 seconds, the machine thinks the door is open and stops the spin process. Does this mean the locking mechanism is faulty? If I replace it, will it solve the problem? Thanks in advance 😊
Thanks mate great work
I'm gonna keep the latch part so I have it if I want to undo this for any reason
cheers Dean, I love this. I'd reiterate the first step is READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS before diving in.
YAY!!! it works couldnt afford a electrician thank you so much x
Is there a fuse for the lock mechanism? Looking at purchasing a machine and apparently the fuse for the lid lock needs replacing.
Hi I did exactly what you said but lid lock light still beeping and doesn't spin. Makes that beepy sound and have take the lid mechanism and made sure the orange bit is as per your instructions. Any other tips?
+Amish Somaiya I don't know sorry
have you checked the pump / hose isn't blocked?
Thanks video ❤
worked for me!
Hi there I tried this and it didn’t work my machine is still trying to lock and when I can’t lock it saids “help I can’t lock the lid close lid and press start” what do I do?? Please help me!!
Hi there, I would suggest go back to the video and make sure the mechanism is in the locked position as described. But firstly check if you can hear a clicking sound in the lock area when you start the machine, if it is silent, I am sorry to say that the lock mechanism has probably failed and you will need a new one as this hack doesn't fix that issue.
Dean's Washer Videos yes I did I went back and checked that the lock was open I even put a bit of blue tack next to it to make sure it didn’t flick back so it’s definitely open.
When I tried to put a cycle on I can hear the latch trying to lock the lid and then the machine tells me it can’t lock the lid and to make sure it’s shut.
@@jamiedacey9707 sorry you are having this issue, if it is clicking then I am not sure what is wrong, as you can see by the other comments many people have resolved their issues with this procedure, and it is the only way I know, so unfortunately I can't help any further, but ask you to go through the video again just in case.....anyway keep trying and if you get it going let us know here as you maybe able to help someone else if there's another issue going on. D.
Yea no worries I’m spewing that this didn’t help me I was hoping for an easy solution to my problem. Not your fault at all and thank you for making the video cause if it was that simple it would have saved me the $$ but this must be something else. I’ll let you know what the repair guy saids :)
Hi I have done all that but it comes up lid lock or lid open! The type of washing machine IO have is a fisher and paykel WA1068g1.
Please what is the price for the lid control switch
My washing machine won't work because of the lock lid. It gave me the code after the machine made a loud pop noise, followed by smoke. Will this hack fix my machine? Hate going to the laundromat because it's an inconvenience and a lot of money we're just throwing away.
no sorry. This hack only allows the lid to open when it's going. If it's already not working because the lock motor has blown up it's not going to bypass it.
Hi I have just taken out the pin in the lid lock but the machine is still stopping the cycle with the lid lock flashing
How to take out the top cover for model --WL1068P1 Fisher &Payel.
If we do this, can we later replace the censor with a new part?
Yes, you can put a new one in later.
Does this work on later washsmart models?
It might but you have to unscrew 4 screws at the back and 2 screws have washers
I banged the top led after trying everything and.... There you have it, it starts working. Now a whole day worth of washing here I go😭😂
Did the mod....was ok 4 a while. Now the solenoid pulses and get the same 235 error. Any ideas why
Yes. the orange lever can move and did not stay in place. Make sure lever is positioned per video, then run a bead of Super Glue around lever on side opposite the O ring.
God I lost you there Dean. Nothing on your part but I'm naturally an idiot when it comes most things.
Quick question, what do you use to clean your machine - my machine is starting to smell.
Ive never had a smelly washer. Go into the menu and select the tub/bowl clean cycle. Use double dose of laundry detergent and a cup of chlorine bleach.
You should always leave the lid open when not in use, do a hot wash ocasionally and if using fabric softner, try using White Vinegar instead. Does the job and is WAY cheaper....keeps the scrud from building up too. I know, I know, fabric softener smells so good.... but yeah....
