There's a reason Catherine Zeta-Jones is in this movie, and why there's an emphasis on acrobatics with lasers... The answers are in the movie Entrapment. I'll be glad to sponsor that reaction 😁
Only if combined with the "Thomas Crown Affair" remake. A movie about a museum heist starring Pierse Brosnan, came out same year as Entrapment. Having a deja vu moment now?
Love how this one is so fast and upbeat. Love how the Entrapment one is much, much slower. 😍😍😍 That scene in the trailer ws probably responsible for half its box office.
George won’t survive seeing Cathrine Zeta Jones in Entrapment lol. That laser scene, burned in my mind since childhood :)
I like entrapment.
One of the most paused scenes in history for sure.
love the part where the 3 guys NOT in jail were trying to come up with a plan......"We can't train a cat on such short notice." LOL
Thank you George for translating for Yen. I always wanted to know what he was saying.
"I totally phoned in that Dennis Quaid movie."
In case anybody doesn't know which movie he was talking about, it was "In Good Company." I actually saw the movie prior to watching this scene, and it had me rolling. 🤣
Same. I did actually like that movie too tho.
15:10 A funny thing I just realized. In this movie, she is chasing a thief called "The Night Fox." In Spanish, Fox translates to Zorro. 🤣
Now _that_ is a Fun Fact!
🤣 no me había dado cuenta 🤣
Un Happy accident, o adrede?
Bernie Mac had a conflict with another movie he was filming while this was filming - so he could only get on set for limited days. Hence why he’s only in the scenes in America and amsterdam - not paris or Rome.
I heard it was also health issues too. A combination of that and health I suppose
"Miller's Crossing" is a 1990 Coen Brothers movie you should definitely watch. Also, Bruce and Julia were in at least one other movie together: "The Player," a 1992 Robert Altman movie you definitely should watch.
Traffic was a bitch. 😎
A great movie that Albert "LeMarc" Finney was in.
Pair Miller's Crossing with 40s noir The Glass Key.
Millers crossing is a stone cold classic must watch!
Their roles in The Player were pretty funny.
Catherine Zeta Jones was in her prime here. Absolute madness of a woman. People in cinemas were gasping every time she was in a scene. She honestly carried half the movie. Her chemistry with Brad Pitt was off the charts.
I think Ocean's Twelve is a grower. I thought it was way worse than Ocean's Elven when I first saw it in theaters but it really grew on me. With this trilogy I kind of reached a state where I watch the movies for the characters, the music and the general coolness. I think Ocean's Twelve offers a lot once you put aside the expectation of a heist movie like the first one. I also think that it's the best one from the perspective of how it was shot. The freeze frame of Brad Pitt jumping out of the window at the beginning, the way Amsterdam is introduced letter by letter, all the different ways Terry Benedict visits the different characters, the insane dancing/break-in scene by Vincent Casel. It's just beautiful to look at. To me it's the most beautiful of the three. I also started to like the whole Julia Roberts gag but that's just me enjoying the actors having fun. I totally see if this kills the immersion for some people. As I said I felt the same way when I first saw it.
Totally agree with this. It’s definitely more convoluted than the other two and probably requires a rewatch or two just to fully understand the timeline and little details.
I find this the most charming of the three but in some ways it has the advantage over the other two in that it’s got beautiful European cities as backdrops rather than Vegas (where you pretty much film at night like 95% of the time). So visually it’s a lot more appealing.
I think it actually fits right in to the franchise. It’s different from the other two but in a really lovely way - it’s more lighthearted and a real delight to watch again and again.
in my opinion, the heists before the egg were just stories, retold by other master thieves. Matsui got hired by the fox, and "the bellagio job" crew made all of it up to mess with him. I really like this movie after a rewatch!
I remember hearing a lot of people getting really mad about the Julia Roberts thing. It seemed to infuriate some people and I’m not sure I understand why. Evidence that the filmmakers and actors were having fun? 🤷🏼♂️
For me this sequel and iron man 2 kinda have the same goal. They want to introduce a lot of themes and ideas and depart from the first. And when I'm in the mood for either franchise, I usually choose O12 and IM2.
understanding the timeliness won't make the movie better, it's a bad movie objectively
23:30 Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis appeared together in The Player (1992), where they also technically played themselves.
This ultimately became my favorite among the three. A large reason is because I really dig the musical score, it's so dope lol. Plot wise this one is definitely less serious and a bit more outrageous, and maybe that's why some people don't prefer it, but I think the dialouge and engagement between team "Ocean" was a lot funnier and a lot more fun since they had already established a bond, so to speak. And I really love the reveal of how they actually stole the egg first. And how the simplicity of that heist contrasted with the complexity of their decoy plan...and even the Night Fox's strategy. And as far fetched as his little dance in the laser field may seem, at least they had the wherewithal to show cut clips of him training for it, in between the scene when the crew was getting pinched.
What's truly impressive is Vincent Cassel's dance moves. He's insane.
He should be in a movie about ballet. Oh wait
They are not dance moves, they are Capoeira moves. He also show some capoeira moves when warm up. Cassel lived in Brazil for five years where he was a capoeira student.
@@otaviosouza1259 so, regional dance moves
@@cowprophet Capoeira is not a regional dance, it is a Afro-Brazilian fight. Why is it so hard for people from Northern Hemisphere o read a book and learn about other cultures?
The issue I have with oceans 12 is that almost everything you see is irrelevant to the heist. It doesn’t matter. In 11 (and 13) the things you’re seeing are relevant. Not in the way that you think they are at the time, but they still matter to the heist.
I think that captures my problem as well. It is still a fun film, and I would happily watch it, but it is not my favorite of the trilogy.
Ding Ding Ding, what those other fools praising 12 is not understanding what they are watching, literally nothing mattered since the moment they arrived in Europe, it was not a heist movie and the stuff they did didn't matter to the plot or story, it's just to make the French guy look like a fool which in a 2 hour movie, it is a waste of everyone's time because they were just messing around until the ending.
So what you're saying is the heist movie about con artists conned you
You missed the point. This movie is different. It's showing that they're not the best thieves. They're great but there's always someone better. Your connections are just as important as your skills which is what actually makes them the best. It's why people need time with this movie. The entire theme of the movie is about connections. It's not about the heist, which obviously to some is a problem.
@@aznthybut it's fun watching them fool around for 2 hours.
How is that a waste of time?
26:36 I can't help but think this is an homage to Catherine Zeta-Jones in Entrapment (1999; with Sean Connery), especially since she's in this film too.
Have you noticed how well was Matt Damon's impression of George Clooney right after part of the team was captured on front of the museum?
My favorite part of the movie was Elliot Gould wanting to go the bathroom. And Scott Caan saying "How would you feel if someone was constantly knocking" and Elliott Gould says "Well I'm gonna otherwise I am going to shit on your shoe" Scott Caan breaks character and starts laughing. I think that line from Gould was ad libbed. To this day it still makes me laugh.
Bruce and Julia are in The Player, as the movie stars: "Traffic was a b*tch"
That Dennis Quaid movie that Topher Grace is referring to is a movie called In Good Company. It was released a few months after this film and the trailer actually played in front of it.
So cool to see Jeroen Krabbé in this one again (plays the hermit). Dutch actor, also in '007: The Living Daylights' and 'The Fugitive'.
“Miller’s Crossing” is one of the great Coen Brother’s films. You should absolutely check it out.
Fun fact, the wealthy American businessman who was in each film in the trilogy was played by producer Jerry Weintraub...
Robbie Coltrane was a Scottish comedy actor who was in The Comic Strip Presents... and had some serious roles before adopting a West Country accent & playing Hagrid.
There's a really under-rated Bruse Willis heist movie called Hudson Hawk. Bit goofy but was pretty enjoyable back in day. He doesn't use watches but instead sings a suitable song with a similar duration of the time they have.
"Guy onna donkey's just a guy onna donkey." I remember that dumb, fun movie.
Steven Soderbergh directed two more heist/crime films "Out of Sight" with George Clooney & Jennifer Lopez, great cast & script...& "Logan Lucky" with Adam Driver, Channing Tatum & a very fun Daniel Craig performance.
Simone, When you were using your finger to speak, saying "Hello. Hello." I half expected the finger to start saying, "Redrum Redrum."🤣
One small thing, the "ala mode" joke is actually 2-fold. He's not only just eating, that literally means "with ice cream".
Bilingual win!
Also! That bit at the end with the lasers? That was all done by the actor himself.
Unless I overlooked them I'm surprised no one has brought up Out of Sight by the same director & starring George Clooney three years before they remade Ocean's 11
I suggested it plenty of times. It's one of my favorite movies and by far the best Clooney/Soderbergh collaboration, which is quite something considering how great the Ocean's Trilogy is. :)
Stoked for you guys to watch Ocean’s 13! It’s honestly my favorite one
Contrary to what others may say, I really appreciated this one more than the others. Maybe it's the foreign intrigue, more humor, the ingenuity of the capers, or even the musical score. Plus, I absolutely crush on CZJ. One of the best twists was 'Linus's' mother (Cherry Jones) came to the rescue.
Well its NOT a bad movie, but it is a bit different from the 1st one, a bit too much 4th wall and meta jokes i think that takes you out of it imo.
And like Goerge says some actors where underused in this one.
The 3rd movie is what the 1st one was, But BETTER in everyway.
Well said. Same here.
this one is actually my favorite out of these movies
Seriously, add Miller's Crossing to your list to watch. It's one of my favorite Coen Brothers movies.
Albert Finney was the star of that one, so that's another connection to this movie.
The guy they try to rob in the Netherlands is played by Jeroen Krabbé, a famous Dutch actor.
There's the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum theft. Rembrandt's greatest painting is still missing, 34 years later.
TRUE STORY: This is Catherine Zeta Jones second heist movie with a laser scene. The other is Entrapment with Sean Connery. Every guy I know liked the Entrapment scene more. 😍😍😍
One reason why this movie feels so different to the other two is that is was partly based on a script called "Honor Among Thieves" about two Chinese thieves competing with each other, and the story was adapted to be a "Ocean's" film.
If I recall correctly, the original script was meant to be more of an action/comedy, starring someone in like Jackie Chan.
Haha Simone that opening reference is so great! Well done, as usual
The Julia Roberts twist is one of the dumbest twist ever put in a movie….and I love it with my whole heart and will die defending it!🤣
4:52 that’s Jared Harris, Richard Harris’ (legendary Irish actor - first Dumbledore) son 👍 and yeah 8:44 that’s Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid)
13:54 It is the Actor who Plays Hagrid He’s known for James Bond (Goldeneye and The World is not Enough), The Harry Potter Movies, Oceans 12, and Nuns on The Run
This is a movie you really have to see multiple times to get everything.
Once was enough, thanks.
You know, I was shortly detained in the airport once because the police officer who stamps the passports thought I was some mastermind criminal! It was so funny watching him through the glass doors argue with his boss when he told him to let me go! He was dead sure he just found Arsene Lupin or smth! So out of curiosity I asked him if everything was ok and he said yes, and mumbled "For now"!
15:01 - "One of the most famous unsolved robberies of all time, dubbed the Antwerp Diamond Heist, saw a criminal gang infiltrate one of the world's most secure vaults. The gang of Italian criminals known as 'the School of Turin' made off with £90million worth of loose diamonds, gold and silver in Belgium Diamond Centre in 2003"
Thieves were identified and arrested, but the loot was not recovered.
This one originally wasn't written as a sequel when they started. It was a unrelated movie called Honor Among Thieves. Then the studio decided they wanted a sequel and had this script on hand so rewrote it into a sequel for the first movie.
8:00 "Everyone is so sexy in that country" Thanks for the compliment, George! 🥰 Much love to you guys from the Netherlands!
Matt Damon roasting Julia Roberts to Tess was the best scene.
The Julia Roberts gag is one of the greatest jokes in movies ever. I think it's still genius. To this day, at least from what I've seen, no movie or tv show has tried to repeat it.
Critics hated it for some stupid ass reason.
No, it isn't. Your level of "genius" is very low.
It's not realy a joke if it's obvious.
27:01 The thing that's even more ridiculous about this scene, that I didn't notice until a couple years ago, is that he didn't have to go through the field of lasers at all. He could have just walked down either side of the room behind the statues.
That's a strike against the effects people for not adding in lasers that cover the whole room, so that his navigation of the lasers would be necessary.
8:00 "Everyone is so sexy. in that country" Thanks man! 😂😂😂
"What I mean to say is we're worse off than when we started " cracks me up every time lol
I know I'm in the minority but this one was my favorite. I loved the characters having to navigate Europe, the villains and their conflicts, Catherine Zeta-Jones was great, and I loved how different it was from the first one.
I've only seen the ocean's trilogy and then 8 the once but yeah I didn't like this one at all. It's been many years though so maybe I give it another chance.
I liked this quite fine. It was really entertaining
So the thing with the Welsh is, they are either stunningly beautiful or trolls there is no in-between
I don't like the 2nd film much but the 3rd is a return to form IMO.
I suggest that everybody freeze-frame @4:15 where Simone is looking at the camera. The face she makes at that moment is golden. I don't want to use 1,000 words describing it, but I love her look at that part it just makes me laugh.
Edit: Also that dude you suspected as being Hagrid (and you're right) was also in Goldeneye. I was first watching and my mind was blown when I realized they were actually the same person. Hagrid was so nice and sweet in the Harry Potter movies, but in Goldeneye he played quite a different role. That huge beard he rocked in H Potter totally disguised him from me and I'd never have made that connection without watching this. Good stuff.
The most famous heist I can think of is the D.B. Cooper case. He high-jacked a plane, took everyone on-board hostage, had it land, received ransom money and enough parachutes for everyone on board, then had the plane take off again and jumped out of the back of it at night, in the rain. Despite an enormous manhunt he was never caught, and only a small amount of the money was recovered when a child found some cash washed up on a beach, something like 15 years later.
In you are interested in more "heist" movies, consider:
"The Real McCoy" - 1993 with Kim Basinger and Val Kilmer
"Entrapment" - 1999 with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sean Connery in "Entrapment" were excellent...
I love the laser dance music. It's called Thé À La Menthe by La Caution. They're friends of the actor who plays the Night Fox, he suggested them to the film makers.
Yeah, it's a banger!
"Is that guy from Chernobyl?"
Yes, Jared Harris, son of THE late Peter Harris (of "Gladiator" Marcus Aurelius fame), Moriarty in Guy Ritchie's stint as a Sherlock Holmes-director...was...in fact....in the tv series Chernobyl. 😄
Couldn't miss your reaction to "Ocean's 12 : Terry's Revenge!!" 😂
“What’s Millers Crossing”? 😳 well it’s a classic Coen brothers mob movie.
I adore the editing and cinematography of this movie. Proper educated cinematographer and editor worked behind this movie.
The movie Copycat with Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter has a main character with agoraphobia. It's a pretty good thriller that I've never seen anyone react to.
7:56 I've only been to the Amsterdam Airport on layovers to and from JFK airport when I went to eastern Europe with my college jazz ensemble in 1996. 23:35 Grand Champion (2002).
Matt Damon asked Soderbergh to play a smaller part in this one because the new Bourne was in the works too. So what did Soderbergh do? Linus wants to play a bigger part this time.
Just adding to the chorus of checking out Miller's Crossing. Watched it several times and always notice something I haven't before.
not Simone casually dropping the most esoteric and obscure Ghostwriter reference on us in the intro? 😂
Speaking of Miller’s Crossing, Albert Finney is in that as well.
This one was underappreciated and underrated versus the other two films. I think it's gotten its due over the years. The Julia Roberts twist is GENUIS. I really like 13.
The laser scene remains one of my favorite things in movie history. My daughter's too. She saw it when she was 4 and has done that little heel tap every time she goes upstairs to bed for 10 years.
(Nikkfurie De) La Caution - Thé À La Menthe....
So the closest I can get to the master thief is the leader of a group who robbed a bank in France. If I remember correctly they actually tunneled into the bank vault. They welded the door shut so no one could open it, had a picnic and then opened up a bunch of the safety deposit boxes that had a bunch of embarrassing stuff in them and plastered it up in the vault. Before they left they spray painted a taunt on the wall that was along the lines of "Without guns, and without violence." Fast forward a few weeks and the group gets caught. When the leader was in court, he jumped out a window and onto a waiting motorcycle. I'm not sure if he was ever caught again.
George: "The console cowboys in--"
Simone: "Just watch the movie, George"
She dips beneath lazers.. whoa-oo-oohhh.
Catherine Zeta-Joooones!!!
26:23 The laser dance is all capoeira moves! Capoeira is a beautiful brazilian martial art!
1:21 " ... lift it directly off the head of the -Queen- King " ... and yes, Robbie Coltrane (R.I.P.) did indeed play Hagrid 👍
You may notice that Brad Pitt was jacked on some scenes and not so much on others. This is because between 2004 and 2005 he did "Troy", "Ocean's 12" and " Mr and Mrs Smith"
I like that the Amsterdam parts of this were actually filmed in Amsterdam. Usually they just shoot it somewhere vaguely European.
Except the train station, that is _not_ Amsterdam.
14:44 - Master thief advice: Make sure the person(s) you steal from doesn't think anything is missing. Also, check out the Eli Lilly Pharma heist for a fun read - The dudes were caught but, it took a while and they were a solid bunch - No harm or casualties during the heist & to steal from a POS pharma company is a major bonus imo. Thieves working with quiet professionalism.
The Bank Job with Jason Statham - good heist movie.
That is Hagrid. The actor was Robbie Coltrane, he passed away at the end of 2022 unfortunately 😢
I really recumbent the next movie as Ocean Thirteen is probably my favourite, it goes back to the same feel and a more clear goal as with the 1st one
26:05 it always baffles me that Vincent Cassel hasn't played Henry IV of France "Paris is well worth a Mass" He's the spitting image of him
Love this one. 😂 Guys please check out American Made. Tom Cruise was great in it. Plus it's a crazy true story
simplest way to describe the ocean’s trilogy.
11: one for them (studio film)
12: one for me (Soderbergh)
13: one for the fellas (for funsies)
8:57 in this scene, everyone was just screwing around with Linus
I love this series and especially this film. So reminiscent of classic heist film styles.
Finally! Your reaction to the best film in this franchise!
Ocean's 12 is not the best of the franchise but it's enjoyable, and I'm here for the iconic laser dance at the end.
Fun fact Vincent Cassel was in the MV of the song playing which is called Thé à La Menthe (mint tea) by French/Moroccan rap duo La Caution.
Love the Ghostwriter reference at the start of the video... that one took me back
Simone: "They're going to raise the... house?"
Me, who has watched Kaiji Ultimate Survivor: "HE TILTED THE ENTIRE BUILDING!!!"
Gabriel Byrne alone makes Millers Crossing a must watch: "If I'd known we were gonna cast our feelings into words, I'd've memorized the Song of Solomon"
I can't believe, and am so impressed Simone opened with a Johnny Mnemonic reference... nice. I actually prefer this one over 11 ...
Ocean's Thirteen is next to react to, cool reaction as always Simone & George, you both take care and have a great weekend
"Hot Man Heist." "The Crown Jewels."
Simone you're really on a roll today, and quick.
I have seen Oceans 13 only once but its a bit more in the vane scope vice of the oceans 11 (Al pacino is it that one and maybe he dibs in little bit more extencively for the "yelling Pacino" type of acting for his later years that I would like😏)
You guys really need to see MILLER'S CROSSING! It's the Coen Brothers, 'nuff said
Oceans thirteen I like second best out of the trilogy and hope you guys do that one as well. The first is a classic. Millers crossing is a fantastic Cohen brothers movie from 1990 and highly recommend that too.
If there are going to be any groups of "master thieves," the best bet would be an art thief of some type. Like the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum theft in the '90's.
I really think you two need to watch the original Ocean's Eleven(1960).
The cast was at it's time period larger than the remake.
Five members of the Rat Pack: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop.
Angie Dickinson, Richard Conte, Cesar Romero, Patrice Wymore, Akim Tamiroff, and Henry Silva. It includes cameo appearances by Shirley MacLaine, Red Skelton, and George Raft.
George, how can you still be surprised when Simone says her silly quotes at the beginning of the reaction?
If you haven’t seen Miller’s Crossing, you have to watch Miller’s Crossing. Damn fine movie.
To answer a question- Bruce and Julia have been in a couple of movies together. I'll ignore that they were both on Friends, as they weren't in the same episode. But they were both in The Player, both playing themselves, and again in "I'm Still Here" which was a documentary about Joaquin Phoenix. They're also in "The Final Cut" which is cheating as they're both in stock footage.
Bizarrely, they're both in a film called "Grand Champion" which is a film about kids participating in stock shows. Roberts had a reason to be in that one, but Willis' involvement seems random.
