stevie AND lindsey are singing backup/background vocals on this. and i believe lindsey also arranged and produced/co-produced(?) this song for walter, who wrote this in honor of stevie cuz he had a HUGE crush on her lol.
I just started to see my first boyfriend at 16 in 1978,my mom sent me away for the summer. I retired near my hometown and we've been seeing each other again for two year's, we are Ying & Yang, and definitely 🧲 & Steel.❤
@@John_Locke_108 Not from Time Life though I remember those infomercials well. I got them from a CD store in downtown Manhattan. They’re out of business now but now I buy them for my iPhone and connect them to my iPads and TV and the TV is nothing fancy.😊
A blast from the past with its beautiful melody and vocals. I never knew of the Fleetwood Mac connection. Great selection and insight, Cosmo. Thanks to you and Harri.
Wow this came out in May, 1978 I was 16 getting Ready to turn 17. I wish I had a dime for as many times I have played this!! Loved it then and Love it now ❤❤ I wanted to mention some of the other Background singers well one anyway. It was a Dark Brown or Black haired Girl named Ann I don't Remember he Last name. She was singing the Really High Notes and the Chorus just wanted Ann to get some Recognition.
Another treasure that I had forgotten about. From 1978, the 2nd solo album, Not Shy, this is a tender love song with great vocals from Walter Egan and especially Stevie and Lindsay providing the back up vocals. Made it to Number 8 in the US and Number 9 in Canada. Great instruments that are so appealing. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cosmo. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I actually bought this album back in the day lol As i'm sure others have already mentioned, Lindsey and Stevie sang backup on this, and Lindsey was one of the co-producers.
Oh, my teenage heart ♥️ 😊. This was one of the best of the 70’s love songs. Since I was a child, love songs nauseated me. I was more of a rocker, Zeppelin, Stones, Floyd, etc. Didn’t believe in sappy love songs. Maybe it was how I grew up and the environment I was in. But, this particular song really reached and touched my soul. I love it as much today as I did the first time I heard it. Don’t tell my kids, I’ll just have to deny it and say everyone is lying 🤥. This song was every teenage girls dream. A time when you thought everything was gonna be ok if you loved someone, and they loved you back 😂🤣🤪!! Stevie and Lindsey produced this song. They both were also backup singers on the LP, but were not featured in the video. Walter wrote this song for Stevie. They had a fling for 1-1 1/2 months. This brings me back when I was a teen, young and innocent ❤😁😉🤭! I will love this song till the day I die!! But really, don’t tell anyone. It’s a secret 🤫🤐😊!!
Great old radio hit brings back fond memories of a childhood friend from 45yrs ago. Some other notables from the album are Star In The Dust, Hot Summer Nights and the haunting Just The Wanting. I've had the album for years it's one of my favorite Pop/Rock albums. Thanks for the flashback! ✌
I was watching " Scrabble" game show on TV in the 80's, he was a contestant and his 1 hit wonder was brought up, but no one remembered it. I was surprised
He was the opening act for Heart in 1978 and made the miztake of playing the only hit he ever had first. The rest.of his set the crowd kept waiting for the Wilson sisters.
I saw The Clash open for The Who, and they made the mistake of playing, "Rock The Casbah", and, "London Calling", first to open their set. It wasn't long before they got booed off the stage, with fans screaming, "WE WANT THE WHO!".
@Cosmo Kramer Indeed, we did! Never had Magnet and Steel on one - just remembered it fondly from radio play - but it was an early MP3 acquisition for me. Funny enough, I picked it up at the same time I bought Ebony Eyes & Sentimental Lady by Bob Welch. (More songs with a Fleetwood Mac connection!)
Cosmo - I am finally caught up with tunes and reviews from this week. I really enjoyed this one from Walter Egan, but I must confess that this, I believe, this the first time hearing him. I will be checking out more from him. Very nice review, Harri.
I think this beat is called a "shuffle." There was a dance they did in America back in the 70s where people lined up into two lines and then couples would take turns dancing down the middle aisle. In this video, that's what they are doing.
Absolutely loved this back then still do. Yeah I agree he should of had more hits same goes for Benny Mardones Into the Night and a few more great singers. This was great!!!!! Im thinking not the right songwriters, yes it's a mystery!
Magnets are attracted to steel. So the singer is saying that him and his lover are attracted to each other. Like magnets. They can't resist each other.
I love this song and it's one that I first learn the drums to and it's still in my Playlist. I would like to recommend a great song from the mid 1970s by Leon Haywood " I wanna do something freaky to you" great structure and Leon has a beauful soulfilled voice, I'm hoping you seriously consider this hit peace out!
Lindsey Buckingham's Production is easily heard all over this song as well as Stevie's voice which is always easy to pick out when she singing back-up with her unique voice that always knows exactly where to be placed when she's singing harmonies 🙂
You hit on something Harri. Yes, this is a "simple" song. It only has 3 chords (A,B,C#m). Yet it seems difficult to capture as an instrumental solo. If it's played by only one or two people, it's lacking. I think that's a testament to how well each "component"--guitar, vocals, drums, bass, etc--are composed and coordinated in the final product. It's a catchy tune for sure. I think there's someone in addition to Stevie in the backup vocals--I seem to catch a whisper of 2nd (even 3rd?) voice at times.
Cool song to react to Harri! An even better one with STEVIE NICKS doing background vocal is John STEWART and "GOLD" from1979?..Give it a listen..You will love it...
@@rickclark8657 Yeah, between 88 and 55. Not a hit. Walter even admits in interviews that he was a 1-Hit Wonder. Since you disagree with both him and me, go tell Walter to "get a life". LOL

LOVED this song back in the day and it still sounds great all these decades later!
Absolutely adore this song! You can hear that it’s Stevie in the background, but this is definitely not a duet ❤
Stevie’s gorgeous voice is always easily recognizable. ❤
He wrote this about and to Stevie
Walter Egan has a great voice !
I had forgotten about this song ... thank you for sharing ... good memories! God bless you
Stevie sang back up in 1977 for ex Fleetwood Mac member Bob Welch on 'Ebony Eyes',also sang backup with John Stewart on 'Gold' in 1979.
Now you’ve got that one playing in my head nonstop!😂
Did not know this. Even back in the day. Anyway.. Always liked the tune. Right on, Harri. Mesmerizing to an extent. Thanks!!

I loved this song and still do.
In 1978, this was a nice respite from the then- dominant disco craze. Egan also wrote another good song, "Hot Summer Nights" by the band Night (1979).
He performed it first, in '78, same album as M&S was on.
Oh wow!!! I burnt this one up on the juke box!!! ❤❤❤

Great request & reaction, Cosmo & Harri. This one's been on my '70s playlist since playlists became a thing!
