I'm aware there will be lot's of comments asking about height and which height is good for what age, etc. If you are below the age of 20 then don't worry so much about height as you're still growing and you might have a later growth spur. Other than that, I hope you enjoyed this video and found value 👍
I now live in The Netherlands. Believe me: the Dutch still have nightmares with Casillas. I am also goalkeeper, 1 81cm and here (the tallest country in Europe) most of the keepers are between 1'90m and 2m. However, they are not as intense as I am and I win most of the GK duels by far. Mentality is a big thing, you will probably agree that during your best saves you were not thinking on possibilities but just focusing on saving the ball.
I can tell you from experience as someone who is 165 cm tall (5’4). I’ve had to play the goalbox in a different manner such as using the drop step when strikers are looking to take a shot from outside the box to give myself more time to react. As was said in the video footwork is top of the list to work on as well as positioning. Strength is an important factor for being able to make those upper 90 saves so I do hit the gym majority of the time. Handling and distribution I’ve worked on being priority of my attributes. From the amount of pro tryouts I’ve been to, majority of the scouts/coaches have all said the same thing, if they could put the attributes of my play style into someone taller they’d sign me. That being said it gives me hope that one day a coach will say we like everything about you and could use you. I was scouted for the NCAA back when I graduated high school and decided not to take the scholarship due to factors going on in my life but still gives me hope. And I’m sure you can’t get much shorter than myself 😂 so I hope this gives anyone out there hope if they’re taller.
I'm a short goalkeeper. 5'8". I'm past the point of playing pro. Played in school though, and still play recreationally. One thing I will say is my coaches did love how much I was willing to do whatever it took to save goals. I was a very physical, goalkeeper. Not to the point of fouling, but I did make attackers think twice about being in the box with me. And I came out off my line more than most keepers to prevent shots. Like he said, when your short, you become creative and figure out different ways to play your position because you recognize the disadvantage you're already at.
I'm a shoter goalkeeper myself (5' 11") and honestly the only thing I really notice and that others point out often is that I'm am extremely athletic. So in situations like claim crosses and making top corner diving saves I can't say I really fall short of taller goalkeepers as they typically lack the levels of athleticism I have (some what balancing out). So I feel if you're a shorter goalkeeper you short make a genuine effort to become more explosive and train your athleticism

Question hope ya don’t mind how tall is 5’10 for a goalie bc sometimes i just cant seem to get to those shots and i also get nutmugged easily any tips?
The reason you get nutmegged is because your 1v1 technique or positioning so here's the 1v1 tutorials you need: 1v1 Basics: ruclips.net/video/s71gs_8qS4g/видео.html 1v1 Positioning: ruclips.net/video/ajsh6NNMN0Q/видео.html The reason you may struggle getting to the top corners is because your technique may be not up to standard and/or your jumping power isn't enough. Go to my playlist and find the high dive tutorial and also train plyometrics
I’m also a shorter goalkeeper being 5’4 and it can be discouraging when getting chipped or the odd looks from opponents or teammates but honestly do what makes you happy and cater to the position that suits you best if your a solid keeper why not give it a shot. Like he said in the vid there are so many short goalkeepers that were outstanding like casillas, Ochoa etc
I’m 5 ft 4 in at 13 yrs old I personally don’t know how tall I’ll be later on. I play goalkeeper but I also play full back and center defense midfielder just in case I don’t get tall enough in the future. I would say play goalkeeper if you want but I would recommend also playing another position based on your current abilities (IE speed, stamina, passing, etc) and go from there. The only reason I play fullback is because I’m really good at defending and I’m pretty fast, and I play CDM because playing as a goalkeeper developed my long passing.
Just do the same thing of training those attributes you may be bad in, like agility, 1v1s, and low dives. After those difficulties have been overcome, work on your natural strengths, such as high dives, cross claiming, and handling. Keep on working hard my brother!
Im 176 cm (about 5,8 ft right?) I have been a gk for about 14 years now since I started as a kid. The most important point for me was the physicality, my abillity to jump high and far made me save many shot even a taller gk might have not gotten to save. There are no excuses for us to stop as a gk, we might not look as intimadating when it comes to a penalty but and thats an advantage we get under estimated by the penalty taker and they often put the ball not that high or far in the goal, so closer to the middle cause they might think you wont get even that thing. But nah even in penalties you can be a good gk even when youre small like me, its just a training thing.
@OP1GK true indeed, but that's what I have experienced. I don't know if it is cause it throws them off that Im a smaller gk or if they did just shot a bad ball, but again it is what I experienced.

Question hope ya don’t mind how tall is 5’10 for a goalie bc sometimes i just cant seem to get to those shots and i also get nutmugged easily any tips?
The reason you get nutmegged is because your 1v1 technique or positioning so here's the 1v1 tutorials you need:
1v1 Basics: ruclips.net/video/s71gs_8qS4g/видео.html
1v1 Positioning: ruclips.net/video/ajsh6NNMN0Q/видео.html
The reason you may struggle getting to the top corners is because your technique may be not up to standard and/or your jumping power isn't enough. Go to my playlist and find the high dive tutorial and also train plyometrics
I just turned 16 years old and I am 5'6" I want to start my career as a professional footballer. I should continue being a goalkeeper right?
I’m also a shorter goalkeeper being 5’4 and it can be discouraging when getting chipped or the odd looks from opponents or teammates but honestly do what makes you happy and cater to the position that suits you best if your a solid keeper why not give it a shot. Like he said in the vid there are so many short goalkeepers that were outstanding like casillas, Ochoa etc
I’m 5 ft 4 in at 13 yrs old
I personally don’t know how tall I’ll be later on.
@@Dtyiop45 I also play Center Back and Full Back and have a lot of practice just in case my height does not reach what I want.
I have a trampoline so is that good for diving and I’m a short goalkeeper
A trampoline isn't the best. Sure some stuff could work but the trampoline isn't ideal
One of the best goalkeepers I have ever trained with was a woman who was probably 5’5? She could fly though!
You are very underrated ❤😊❤😊❤
Thanks 🙏
Who is your favorite goalkeeper?😂❤😊
@@xemozeditz Don't have one
Mine is Manuel Neuer ❤😊
I’m 167cm at 13 is that good?
Do how to be a tall goalkeeper because there not as agile and struggle with low dives
Just do the same thing of training those attributes you may be bad in, like agility, 1v1s, and low dives. After those difficulties have been overcome, work on your natural strengths, such as high dives, cross claiming, and handling. Keep on working hard my brother!

Bro... I am 174cm and i fell more comfortable in 1 vs 1 situations. It's hard to be GK when u r under 180cm.
True but with a penalty the taker would always try to put it away no matter the gk's size
@OP1GK true indeed, but that's what I have experienced. I don't know if it is cause it throws them off that Im a smaller gk or if they did just shot a bad ball, but again it is what I experienced.
Im 5’4 at 11 so i feel like i could be atleast 6’4 when im 20 or 19
