He overcame a lot more than fear of public speaking. He suffered from a serious stammer, which is why he feared public speaking. Most people who fear it have no stammer. By the way, I've found that one of the best ways to accustom people to public speaking is to enroll them in drama classes as children. I took them as a child, and they stood me in very good stead when I became a college professor. I am a quite confident lecturer because of them.

I thought English was the second official language in India? Also, please note that there is no such thing as a 'British accent'. People either speak 'BBC English' (without any accent whatever), or they speak with some kind of regional accent, depending on whereabouts they are from in the British Isles or the Anglophone world. And lastly, the correct word for this type of entertainment is 'film' in English (not 'movie'!)

I once had severe speech impediments in the past. At 21, I did not know know how to pronounce even my own name and that was very embarrassing.
After leaving college, I learned speech from books including a pronouncing dictionary by Daniel Jones who interprets pronunciations of words by IPA letters which represent certain sounds. Once I had Daniel Jones' pronouncing dictionary, I started to build up my speaking vocabulary by learning off pronunciations from IPA codes which helped me distinguish vowels in sound-alike words.
I exercised my tongue vigorously, also my jaw, vocal cords, lungs, diaphragm, etc. I also did breath control exercises which are recommended for voice training actors and singers.
For exercises, I flapped my tongue up and down, side to side, and practised lip positions and tongue positions for all letter sounds. Exercises helped me lose stiffness in my tongue, while making it flexible. To train my hearing and heightening its sense, I listen to audiobooks with my eyes shut tight. That helped me learn intonations and time pauses in speeches.
I was severely speech impaired till my 20s. Exerecises took me over 10 - 15 years to overcome all speech defects. They paid off. Today, I can speak well and sing too.

Actually it's all that it takes for an introvert - just speak and with every word you become stronger, but we tend to stay back at times, because we realise what's the point and who cares anyway. Overall it's all about talking with yourself. It takes time, it takes sanity and makes you drift between strange places in your own mind. Stay strong

I was reading the book serie ''Her royal spyness'' and in the nineth book or so there were hints on this second son of the king, the only one who seemed well behaved and comitted to his family, but overlooked and harshly reprimanded by his father for his stutters.. Now, i'm reading the book where i suspect the heir David is planning to marry secretly , in italy, his, rather old and rude, twice divorced american ladylove..highly inpressionable, he seems , like his ladyfriend, to develop a fascination for Hitler's ascension to power.. I suspected he may be forced by the royal family to elope..and it made me think of this movie..witch led me here. And it seems to be inspired, like the books, by true historical events..i'm gonna definitively watch this later.
PS:i'm north african myself and i wish our local film industry or authors could make our own history this fun and glamorous to read about.

i feel so.......identificated 😓😓🤨(my talking was fast and little bobble during my school years and graduating the Lycium( high school="Λύκειο"in greek) had a little improvement. I'm very lucky that i haven't even bullied in my school years. Coming to Athens for studies, my speech improved very much-eventually this social envirronment change helped me. I am hopefull and determined to become better and better). I must say to those people who have speech problems to don't fear and give up, ask for help, find a good speech therapist to help, and remember that they are guys in general who want to help you and haven't problem to make company with you, despite the speech problem. But make efforts to be improved, since because of a speech disorder, actually lose social, profesional and other opportunities.
    Sending my hopes...

This scene is quite sad, actor Colin Firth had speech therapy to sound like King George VI and with that, a stutter he could never get rid of.
