For sci-fi fans of a certain age, seeing the third and final entry in the original "Star Wars" trilogy back in May of 1983 was a generational rite of passage.
Three years earlier, director Irvin Kershner left us dangling precariously atop a narrative cliff when the bomb was dropped that Darth Vader might be Luke Skywalker's true father in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back." Nooo!!
But alas, it was ultimately revealed to be true in "Return of the Jedi" - and then Yoda passed away, the Rebel Alliance obliterated the second Death Star, Vader and the Emperor died, Luke and Leia were now siblings, the Ewoks sang that terrible "Yub Nub" song and all was right with the galaxy far, far away.
As "Star Wars" Day appears just over the horizon this May 4, 2023, "Return of the Jedi" will return to theaters starting Friday (April 28) in preparation for the film's 40th anniversary coming on May 25, 2023. A new generation will be able to experience the iconic film's old-school charm, and older hardcore fans can relive those classic "Star Wars" moments in theaters once again since its tinkered-with Special Edition presentations back in 1997.

A good cut. There is ONE CHANGE I would suggest. The first shot of Boba Fett, put him when he's giving the nod to Bosch instead of flirting with the girls. Build on his mystique and toughness. The flirt is an emotional tempo offset at that moment in the trailer and I feel lessens his "cool factor" when I finally see him again taking aim. Just my two bits....all in all a good clipping :D

@@ADedits9 I've been a Han Solo fan since 1977. NO, he's not in this trailer. And I am glad you didn't do a "Homer Simpson" when he walked past the 1980 long line and said aloud: "I can't believe Darth Vader is Luke's father."
You know a movie is magical when a fanmade trailer for it makes you feel chills despite having already seen it hundreds of times.

I watched it last night on the big screen. There are definitely times when it looks like a 40 year old movie, but the heart of it is still as strong as ever. I took my 12 year old son, he'd never seen it, and he loved it. That's all that matters.

Exactly the same! Except that my child is 10 rather than 12. I am 37 and never had a chance to see this in theatres, not even the 1997 special edition. Felt like a kid again.
Saw it last night on a big PLF screen Awesome. The practical effects hold up even today. The ones that look dated are the ones Lucas added for the Special Edition rerelease.
The ending celebration music in this movie is so underrated, and it was so cool to hear it dramatized for this trailer

Amazing use of the Endor Celebration Theme for the trailer! If this was the trailer playing at theatres in 1983 I can’t imagine the hype of the fans. Amazing job dude, keep it up! 🙌

I went to watch this in theaters for their anniversary re-release. And my god what a feeling it was to watch such a defining movie in theaters like the way it was nearly 40 years ago. Spectacular experience. Makes me appreciate this franchise more and more with every new and old piece of content

Amazing. Brought tears to my eyes. I was lucky enough as a kid to see the remastered original trilogy with my dad and brother. If the trailer back then was this...holy crap it would have been insane.

Saw ROTJ last night at a theater in Hollywood; what an incredible experience it was! Never thought I’d ever have the opportunity of seeing my favorite Star Wars film on the big screen and lemme tell ya it brought tears to my eyes!

You did something I imagined they should have done to introduce Episode 7, the Endor Celebration Theme!! This theme is criminally underrated, underused and under appreciated! I literally got goosebumps and chills. It is such a fitting theme for not only Episode 6, but they could have used it throughout the sequel trilogy, or at least for the beginning of Episode 7 (orchestral version). Anyway, thank you very much for this and your understanding of proper Star Wars storytelling, and your recognition of important Star Wars themes!!
This movie is slowly re-becoming my favorite Star Wars film. It just means so much. I’ve seen it a dozen times, and this still got me hype AF. Congrats on a great job!

Return of the Jedi is absolutely FUCKED when it comes to pacing and structure, beginning with a half hour MINI MOVIE at Jabba’s Palace, then they go to Endor where the plot comes to a complete stop so they can stay with some annoying-ass teddy bears, and then there’s a few interesting minutes at the end.

I mean it’s a FACT (not an opinion) that it’s the worst of the Original Trilogy.

I saw the original release with my dad and 2 brothers. It was such an amazing movie for a 9 year old. Thanks dad, for the life-long memory.

Brilliant choice of what to show and what not. Also Brilliant to give the sense that there's a new Jedi wielding a green saber that is not Luke. Music choice was also perfect, a slow down theme from the finale.. great work!

Ah to be 16 again in 1983, waiting in line for the midnight showing at the Beaver Valley 6 cinemas with my best friend and Dad- he was a huge Star Wars fan, too. The gasps and the cheers and the tears in that theater will never be forgotten! Good job!

I know that for some, this is their least favourite of the Trilogy, but I love it above all others.
It shows, for the first time, Luke as the absolute badass he was becoming, far away from the whiny but likeable farm boy we first met. His titanic courage in willingly facing both his father and Sidious, knowing it would most likely be a one-way trip, is truly inspiring.
It shows the triumphant return, brief and bittersweet though it was, of Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight, as he finally destroys the hated Emperor.
Ok, ok, and we get to see the beautiful Carrie Fisher ( rest in peace, dear Princess.) not wearing very much.
Long live "Return of tge Jedi!"

It's my favorite Star Wars movie if you ask me, and my Great Uncle's favorite too, Victory Celebration theme it's his favorite Star Wars and he downloaded it, I love the Battle of Endor in Space, all the action scenes, Luke vs Vader and especially their dialogues along with the Emperor.
Same, and I love Jabba palace stuff, and Dagobah, and Endor, and AT-ST, and C3PO telling Star Wars…
Best one yet.

I'm 46 years old and the first time I saw Star Wars was in my country in a big arena they had a big projector and you could watch it at night outside... I have never forgotten that feeling, thank you for the reminder

Today was my first time seeing ROTJ in theaters cause I was only 1yo when it came out in 83, and I was so glad I went and took my kids to see it!

I especially appreciated the attention to detail in using the Special Edition Celebration theme as the theme for the trailer, a nice use of foreshadowing the conclusion to the story, and I also also appreciated that you deliberately chose not to reveal the fate of Han Solo. Just saw this for the first time ever in theaters! My first viewing of this movie was way back in 1997 when I was 2 and saw it on my parents TV! It will forever be my favorite Star Wars movie!
