Nice bike. Had to be the ADV8.9, my son has one and a guy in the gravel group also has one. Really good value for the spec. The best thing we've found with the gravel bikes is being able cover greater distances and still enjoy some off-road 👍 Those cable adjusters at the front can twist a bit with vibration so I added just the smallest bit of thread lock and they've been perfect ever since. The bike has proved to be really good over the last 18 months.
Hi MIke. Great vid. I bought this bike about 8 months ago. There was some fiddling with the gears initially to get them right. I have been enjoying it on road mostly, but on gravel tracks it comes in to it's own. Great bike and I'm happy with it. Done about 400miles on it now. Do think I will need to buy a MTB in the next 12 months to cope with offroad trails. Looking at Boardman options there. Happy with the brand so far :)
Afternoon, thanks for getting in touch .sounds like your bike is doing well. I’ve not got out as much as I’d like with commitments at home, but love it when I do. I love my Boardman for road and gravel, but considering changing tyres for something a little better off road. I have the Voodoo Zobop e for the trails so spoilt myself really!
@@MikeTyler Which tyres did you get on yours Mike? Mine came with Vittoria Terreno Zero, but they list the bike as having Schwalbe G-One speed, 700x38mm, raceguard, folding bead tyres on the Boardman site. 2 more questions Mike. Did you pick up on that too and what's the difference with them? I'm thinking about injecting some sealant in to my tubes as I'm not confident the Vittoria tyres will be that hardy on the gravelly stuff. Be great to hear your view, John :)
@@MikeTyler The gears do seem a bit twitchy. I can't quite put my finger on what is up with mine, but I am getting fairly consistent full range use out of them atm :).
@@MikeTyler I've been looking at Continentals. Expensive but they look a lot better than the stock tyres. I'm just watching your e bike vid. Will leave a comment on there afterwards :)
I picked up my ADV 8.9 2021 bike last week and am very happy - I understand that it’s got a few updates from the model in this video, it would be good to see a review comparing both models?
Hello, new subscriber here! I've just bought this bike and find the gearing a bit 'off' as you did. Would you be able to film how to do the adjustments? That would be really helpful 😊
Bought this bike in the summer 2020 for some bike packing. Must've done ~750 miles on it now. Whilst it has been great for the most part, the front derailleur has required endless tweaking. Sometimes can't shift between the two front cogs. Something doesn't seem right
I changed the stock tyres on mine after a couple of rides as they were just fat road tyres and useless off-road. Stick some knobbly ones on and you're well away....I can easily get 42c ones in mine.....after 3 years of owning mine, I still really like it. I have changed a few parts over time on it though.....Great bike.
Thanks mate, I have been thinking about this, but then what are they like on the road? I have my mountain bike still for proper trails, so might keep them as they are for a while and see what sort of rides I find myself doing.
what do you think is better? this or the CXR 8.9? overweight female, wanting road bike not to aggressive that can go on some tracks and paths with kids? plus dealing with our terrible roads! 5ft 7 female. I wont be tearing around the place I was set on the CXR but then found the ADV 8.9 and think this would be better but I am so new to this?
Morning, thank for your comment. I've looked at the specs for the CXR 8.9 and it looks very good! However, I have never ridden one. I have had a couple of road bikes previously and I personally find them quite scary! 😂😂 I also had a lower spec Cyclo-cross Boardman some years ago (I can't recall the model), and although I liked it, and it was faster on the roads than the ADV, I still prefer the ADV as I feel it is a bit more forgiving and gentle the wider wheels and fatter tires. I try to avoid main roads, I prefer riding on tracks and cycle routes, and most of the time, it's with my children. So I think it really depends on the riding you are going to do. I would love to know other people's thoughts on this? Maybe Halfords will loan me one to test!? 😂😂🥰🥰
Great video. I have the 2021 spec being prepped for me right now, just got a few extra's to arrive at the shop then I can pick it up, hopefully this side of the weekend. Will be my first ever bike with dropped bars, as I've had a Grifter and MTB's since being 10 YO. I'm having it set up for touring/bikepacking as I'm a backpacker historically, but wear and tear on my ankles means I can't walk far and with very little weight these days, but I can still ride. I live right by the Trans Pennine Trail and a big water park with lots of mixed route trails so a Gravel bike is ideal. How are you finding those Boardman Hybrid pedals? I've got those on my build too.
Hi Mike. I m hopping to get some advised from you. I have a small movement in my headset area , I checked all the RUclips videos and tried to sort out the issue by myself but I had no luck . So I think i need to replace the headset kit. My question is : FSA Orbit C-40 ACB, 1 1/8” - 1.5” Tapered, Integrated is the right part for Boardman 8.9 adventure? Thanks in advance
To be honest, I’d have to check, but from what I can see, the TEAM, COMP, AIR, SLR, CXR, ADV, MHT, MTR, TTE all have the same, so that might help with confirming it it’s right or not
Very tight Mike..but overall pleased with the bike..good value especailly as i got £200 off for just trading in an old helmet lol.One downside is the gear cables being on the downtube and not having internal routing get crudded up easily and soon affect shifting, took me ages to work out how to get the old cable out as the nipple is hidden behind a cap removed by two small screws on the front of the hoods.Good vid by the way Mike.
Hi I own the same bike ( luckily I got a good discount as my grandson works part time in Halfords , so I was interested with what you had to say. Like your bike my headstock was too loose but to cure mine I had to fit another thin spacer. I,d be interested to learn from you whether you prefer to us a mtb off road as I am sorry I didn't buy one instead of this because I find it harsh to ride over bumpy ground. I would also be interested to learn what you think of the Fizik saddle because I have one on my racing bike & it's great but this one is too hard for me. One more subscriber now Mike regards Ted
Evening, just back in from a play on the Zobop-e and it is absolutely amazing! So muddy and slippery out.... so so much fun! What are you riding now and what sort of riding do you do?
Mike Tyler I have an older Marin mountain bike which I haven’t used much because it’s quite heavy for me now (50!) also been diagnosed with copd so an e bike would be perfect for me . I’m actually still quite fit and trying to keep that way hence the new bike , just thinking the mountain bike might be a bit to much now :)
I love both my bikes, the ‘e’ version of the Boardman is meant to be very good and may suit you well. The Zobop is very heavy as are all emtb, but doesn’t matter once you are going. The Boardman is very easy to ride compared as its light and has skinny tires, so I guess the electric version would be great. My only thought is that they only assist to about 15 mph, and that’s fairly easily passed on a road/gravel bike. Ps, I’m 48, over weight and not very fit.
Mike Tyler thanks Mike , yeah the 15mph thing was something I thought about ,and I don’t think the weight would bother me if I had a motor , your not vary fit means I need to review my quite fit !
Cheers Kev, not done many miles over the summer with kids off school, but planning getting a few good trips in during September so that will find the weaknesses I think

Great video you still got it, thinking about buying one
Cheers, yes, and still my choice of bike to ride! Had to play with the gears fairly regular but, at least I'm quite good at setting them now 🤣

Good vid Mike. Thanks. I'm waiting for these to come in to stock so I can get one on the Cycle2Work scheme. Looking forward to it!
I hope you love it, I’m really enjoying it. So different to my normal Mountain bike. In a good way, just feels so nimble and gives confidence.

I’ve tweaked mine loads too, i don’t think the gears are the best, not really suited to the bike.

I want this bike, Halfords say it's in stock, but you can't get it delivered and it's not in any store near me :(
Stock is a nightmare! Hope you sort one

Hi have had the boardman 8.9 adv for a few years now..has anyone experienced difficulty getting the tyres on and off.? Find them really tight.
I haven’t had to try yet, I’ve been lucky! Are they very tight beads?

what is the actual size of this bike, wheel to wheel? thank you
I would have to go and measure it, I will try to do it later 😊

Can you buy these in the US?
I'm not sure to be honest, I think the brand is imported exclusively to the UK by Halfords, but I am guessing it's European.
great vid i think i will stick to my e-bike thanks looks too much like work
Both great fun though
Change out the BB to something like hope as the stock one doesn't last very long!
