- George Wagner, IV is standing trial for the April 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families. Wagner IV faces 22 counts including eight counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and forgery.
Wagner’s brother, Edward “Jake” Wagner, and his mother, Angela Wagner, have already pleaded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy to murder the eight Rhoden and Gilley family members over their desire to obtain full custody of the then two-year-old daughter Jake shared with victim Hanna May Rhoden. Angela and Jake Wagner have agreed to testify against their family members.
George “Billy” Wagner, the father of Jake and George, faces the same 22 counts.
On the morning of April 22, 2016, family members found Chris Rhoden, Sr., 40, and his cousin, Gary Rhoden, 38, dead in Chris’ mobile home on Union Hill Rd. Chris Sr.’s ex-wife, Dana Manley Rhoden, 37, and their children, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Chris Rhoden Jr., 16, were found shot in the head in their sleep in their mobile home down the road. Hanna May had given birth days earlier to a baby girl who was not harmed. Clarence "Frankie" Rhoden, 20 and his fiancee, Hannah "Hazel" Gilley, 20, were also found shot to death in their sleep. Their six-month-old son was in between them covered in blood but unharmed. Frankie’s four-year-old son was unharmed in the home as well.
Kenneth Rhoden, 44, was found shot once in the eye in his camper on Left Fork Rd. more than seven miles away.
Angela Wagner’s mother, Rita Newcomb, pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor count of obstruction. She had been charged with forgery and obstruction of justice for lying about signing and notarizing custody documents related to Hanna May, Jake and George’s children. Newcomb has agreed to testify against her family members.
Billy Wagner’s mother, Fredericka Wagner, was initially charged with obstruction of justice and forgery for allegedly lying about purchasing a bullet-resistant vest for Billy. The charges were dropped after it was discovered a plate in the vest was manufactured after the homicides. Prosecutors have said they may refile the charges at a later date. Fredericka has been subpoenaed to testify.

The Wagners did it so they could get custody of the young daughter Jake had with his ex Hanna Rhoden, prosecutors said. Jake indeed won sole custody of the child, now 8, after the murders. The Wagners moved to Alaska. That all changed after authorities arrested them in November 2018, sparking a legal battle lasting almost four years.

I don’t think he expected his family to scapegoat him. I think the family had a meeting without George and decided to scapegoat him in case they got caught. It would make sense given the dynamics of this group.
We killed a bunch of people but we had to sit in the back of the plane near the bathroom so we have it bad too... the disconnect of this family is astounding. Listening to the paranoia they lived in is sweet though.

No personal offense to the judge, but why does the prosecutor have to keep explaining to him why the evidence they are showing is pertinent?
That’s common in trials. One side objects and the other side argues that the relevancy will be made known. It keeps the attorneys from taking pot shots at a witness or sneaking in unrelated subject matter.
The bald defense guy is giving me Kirk Nurmi vibes. So frustrating to listen to.

You can't tell me that, in the history of Ohio trials, it has never been ruled upon whether a tapped phone call must be played in its entirety, or whether it can be limited to relevant subject area. Give me 20 minutes on a Lexus Nexus, and I can rule on it myself.
Not sure why the defense attorney is allowed to be so close to this witness for so long. It’s a form of intimidation.
Can’t some family send Georgie some clothes? He wears the same thing every day. Ohhhh, that’s right, all of his family is at the same place he is. Bet that vest has some big time stains in the arm pits.

@@shawnelam4206 they don't mean that his clothes can't be cleaned. And that would mean having more than one outfit. Whether it is identical or not. I don't think for a minute that the court meant that he can't wear civilian clothes!

Why is it that some trials never “side bar” and some are in constant “side bar” (this one)?
The judge is I charge of that. Which is poor jury management, even his disposition towards the jurors. The jurors time is being disregarded and it’s not a good look on the defense.

Ain't nobody innocent that paranoid , if you know and do nothing to stop them your guilty! I wouldn't snitch on my family for most anything but I draw the line about killing nursing mommies and collateral damage being kids! And it's pretty obvious George knew in advance the way he deprived Bulvine of a mother for spite tells me the apple didn't fall far from the tree! The only good to come outta this is for Bulvine and Sophia to get away from these people.

This is the prosecution’s case to put before the jury 1st, then the defence has their turn in court!!! The defence is really pathetic with their oh but the jury needs to hear everything on tape…… not everything is relevant and if the defence wish too they can bring the tapes in for George’s defence when the prosecution has rested! That’s how court cases work!!! Maybe the defence needs to learn how courts work!

Exactly. BOTH parents deserve LIFE, Shooters (Billy & Jake) LIFE, George IV deserves 10yrs, for not raising alarm/call authorities. Just fair, since adult kids(children) subjects of LIFE-LONG INDOCTRINATION. ONE CHILD(JAKE) KILLED 6~8 people, GEORGE killed ZERO!
He should have alerted the police. Sadly, he didn't. 10yrs sounds fair in George's case.

I believe they did it. Fortunately the prosecution has the shoes and casings and two people pled guilty. As for any bombshell conversations caught on audio or in the computers… I didn’t recognise anything.
2 days later yeah the audio is connected with physical. . The paranoia of digging at their sold property is outstanding! They found because of these audios, cartridge, flashlight/ silencer... Angela's worrying about which barn lolol absolutely priceless ..

What type of trial would you like to see. Before making this Statement wait to see what his "defense attorneys " will present. His own family members believe he took part in committing the crime, so I'm not sure if there will be any witnesses for the defense. That's why hus attorneys ask questions to make George appear to be a Saint.

I blame George's grandmother, for everything. The "matriarch" of the whole Wagner family should be held accountable.
I feel bad George somewhat. You are suppose to believe your doing the right things that you parents want done. Unfortunately this has cost him his freedom and being able to be with his son and watch him grow up. I know he could have stopped it but he didn’t.
Going along with the slaughter of 8 is NEVER the right thing! The right thing was NEVER in this family’s make up..arson/insurance fraud, grooming young girls…the list goes on and on.
If for some reason George gets a sentence other than life, he should be prohibited from seeing his son unless it is supervised.

Don't feel sorry for him. He and Angela kept his first wife prisoner after she gave birth and she had to escape the house by biting him after he hit her, running away and hiding. He then had the audacity to report *her* for DV.
Then he tricked her into signing their child's custody away.
