- George Wagner, IV is standing trial for the April 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families. Wagner IV faces 22 counts including eight counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and forgery.
Wagner’s brother, Edward “Jake” Wagner, and his mother, Angela Wagner, have already pleaded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy to murder the eight Rhoden and Gilley family members over their desire to obtain full custody of the then two-year-old daughter Jake shared with victim Hanna May Rhoden. Angela and Jake Wagner have agreed to testify against their family members.
George “Billy” Wagner, the father of Jake and George, faces the same 22 counts.
On the morning of April 22, 2016, family members found Chris Rhoden, Sr., 40, and his cousin, Gary Rhoden, 38, dead in Chris’ mobile home on Union Hill Rd. Chris Sr.’s ex-wife, Dana Manley Rhoden, 37, and their children, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Chris Rhoden Jr., 16, were found shot in the head in their sleep in their mobile home down the road. Hanna May had given birth days earlier to a baby girl who was not harmed. Clarence "Frankie" Rhoden, 20 and his fiancee, Hannah "Hazel" Gilley, 20, were also found shot to death in their sleep. Their six-month-old son was in between them covered in blood but unharmed. Frankie’s four-year-old son was unharmed in the home as well.
Kenneth Rhoden, 44, was found shot once in the eye in his camper on Left Fork Rd. more than seven miles away.
Angela Wagner’s mother, Rita Newcomb, pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor count of obstruction. She had been charged with forgery and obstruction of justice for lying about signing and notarizing custody documents related to Hanna May, Jake and George’s children. Newcomb has agreed to testify against her family members.
Billy Wagner’s mother, Fredericka Wagner, was initially charged with obstruction of justice and forgery for allegedly lying about purchasing a bullet-resistant vest for Billy. The charges were dropped after it was discovered a plate in the vest was manufactured after the homicides. Prosecutors have said they may refile the charges at a later date. Fredericka has been subpoenaed to testify.

The Wagners did it so they could get custody of the young daughter Jake had with his ex Hanna Rhoden, prosecutors said. Jake indeed won sole custody of the child, now 8, after the murders. The Wagners moved to Alaska. That all changed after authorities arrested them in November 2018, sparking a legal battle lasting almost four years.

The judge needs to talk into the microphone or sit closer to it. He's audio is very soft. I keep hearing them tell the witness to speak louder and move closer to the microphone.
Not really related but considering all the illegal activity happening on the property and so many people/relatives constantly coming and going, I'm surprised every rhoden house didn't have cameras installed everywhere.
The defense attorney is really trying to get this female witness to say some about what Billy wrote that really wouldn't help his case. The fact that the entire family didn't return for Angela's fathers funeral is very suspicious. If they were so close, why not come back for services and at least support Rita???
It's Rita's first husband not current and if he was not having a service (some people really don't want one) there might not be any reason to return then. Anytime George is asked a question like why didn't he attend his grandpa's funeral? His answer is always my attorney advised me not to, but at the same I'm sure his attorney would have advised him not to move back to Ohio so I'm pretty sure it's just an excuse.
Bingo! If George wasn't hiding from the law in Alaska, (because he is guilty,) then, he would have gone home for his precious Paw Paw's funeral. But, he didn't.
George couldn't go. Angela wouldn't allow it. Shes the boss. Chris supposedly was his best friend. Didn't matter to Angela. Go and kill and for what. Such control she had on this family. Look where she took them. George can't even look up ever. This is eating him alive. George can't believe this has all happen. Mama wasn't who or as smart as you thought she was George. I bet all George knew to do was obey,Jake too. Wicked parents.
None of the Wagner's returned to Ohio for Angela's dad's funeral? Geez
If he requested no service (some people do request that) there really isn't any reason to come home if the boys were working than she would need to figure out babysitters and who knows what the airfare would cost.

The defense attorney is asking useless questions and continues to push witnesses for answers when they clearly and repeatedly say they don't know. It's called badgering the witness.
Why do you intentionally mischaracterize what is occurring?

That is Chris & kenneth rhodens mother. She is in bad health, uses oxygen & I believe has lung problems
If anything she has more right to be there then we do watching it. This is the trial for the murderer of her 2 sons, nephew, daughter in law & 3 grandchildren

Despite what Angela says about staying home to babysit that night, I believe she went along and took part in the murders; she isn't above giving a child xanax to set up her daughter in law, so who's to say that she didn't drug the kids and take them along, or leave them asleep in their beds while she went along. They could have teamed up and each pair gone to 2 separate locations, as synchronized and meticulous as the plan was.
She was supposed to be manipulating the phones so it looked like they were using them at home.
She got off way too easy. She knew about the plan she participated in the leading up to the murders and she did nothing to stop it
Although there is no doubt in my mind she is capable and willing to do that, I believe she stayed home for other purposes...

She is an evil person. She would not stay home and miss the big evil event. She is too much in the middle of all of it with intentions of brain washing those children just like her sons...if they are really her own., A mother would offer her own life than to see her own children waist their young life in prison, or lose their life.

The law is if you was there in the commission of a crime and someone died you're just as guilty as the person that pulled the trigger that's the law in this case,8 people died so what difference does it make whether he pulled the trigger or not he was there 8, people are dead the Wagner's had two or three years to make up something

They ended for the day, I think. This is just the replay. Only other LIVE right now is verdict watch for Parkland.
It’s a good thing for The State that Angela and Jake copped pleas. I have no doubt there is enough evidence to convict all four, but this prosecution team is so disorganised and the way they present the case is just confusing and chaotic. They come across as bumbling, inexperienced lawyers which is a shame. Constantly asking for hearsay testimony is just one example. Stopping to relabel evidence because an entire bin full of documents is given a single number is another, but there are so many more. I’m able to fast forward thru some of the tedium and confusion but the jury is not.
@E H It's a shame that the Ohio Attorney General's office has no attorney involved. Neither Wilson nor Canepa work for the AG's office.
