    wow, a quick google of who the parent company is really HAS given me a lot more confidence in these. I've used those lenses on all sorts of projects and they're top notch! Great review. Really weighing up this vs the voigtlander but I'm leaning this way!

    Design is amazing. I actually have a 50mm Summicron Rigid with an infinity lock and love it. I also have a Kern Macro-Switar with the visifocus depth of field markers and love it. The build quality is superb and the image quality is lovely. I used to swear off Chinese lenses, but this one is quality.

    Lecia really need to get back to their game of making high quality lens to justify their premium price nowadays. The 28mm 1.4 Summilux was amazing when it was announced and the price was justified because no one was able to do it as well as Leica for the 28mm lens in terms of high image quality in a very compact body. Even the Zeiss 28mm F2.8 was not that small for a much slower F2.8 max aperture. Fast-forwarding for almost a decide, Vogitlander/Cosina and these new Chinese companies finally figured it out with patent expirations of the older lens and improved computer software for lens simulation and design. I can't wait for Leica to bring back their A-game. Before they do that, I will stick with these third party lens and older Leica summicrons.

    • @btonelli
      @btonelli  4 дня назад +1

      My personal take is Leica has achieved all it can now with the M lenses and in time others will catch up. The latest APO 35 and the older 50 are phenomenal lenses that still have the edge over third party lenses but of course at a premium. The Summilux line is getting close focusing but this is also being done by other companies now.
      The M will always be the foundation for Leica but in time it will be the SL system that dictates the future I feel

    • @KeeeeenW
      @KeeeeenW 4 дня назад

      @@btonelli You're right that Leica is probably focusing most of their R&D on the SL system (and possibly the rumored medium format system). This reminds me of the technical video (ruclips.net/video/_vyoAIOTIcs/видео.html) from Leica showcasing the SL system and the 35mm SL APO lens. They claim that the 35mm SL APO can resolve a full-frame sensor with more than 100MP resolution, which doesn't yet exist for consumers, among other innovations. The Leica M 35mm and 50mm APOs are excellent, using a lot of premium glass materials, which somewhat justifies their high price (I guess this is also true for the 28mm Summilux). I don't own any APO lenses, but I've heard that the Voigtlander APO Lanthar 35mm F2, which I have for my M cameras, has very similar image quality but is larger in size and does not close focusing capabilities.

    Planning to get one for my Zf. If there are strong benefits for using Z mount on Zf, I don’t mind buy the z mount version even that means I won’t be able to use it on my Leica M body. But does the z mount version have chip? If not, I would just stick with M mount version with a 6-bit M-Z adaptor such as techart or TTartisan, so I will have the green box MF confirmation, object detection, 3D tracking and 3 axial IBIS.

    • @btonelli
      @btonelli  25 дней назад

      I haven't tried the native Z mount to know if there is a chip or not. My guess is no there isn't.

    Too many choices for 28mm on the Leica. I am quite content with my Zeiss Biogon, TTArtisan F5.6 and the Brightin Star pancake. They are not fast but I dont see the need to go F1.4 for 28mm anyway. I prefer a longer focal length like the 35mm and 50mm for fast glass.

    I’m sorry but as a commercial/narrative DP DZO Film (their parent company) is a completely unremarkable and un-noteworthy brand. I really don’t think knowing a lens was made by them would have any more impact than knowing it was made by thypoch. Not sure where you got the idea that DZO was an established and trusted cinema brand. They are basically the thypoch of cinema 😂 a cheap, likely great value, lens company that no one has heard of.

      @@btonelli well sure, maybe there are some people who know and respet their name in asia, but your whole point about prejudice to asian lens companies kind of implied that you were more talking about american sentiment towards the brand being elevated if people know about the DZOFilm name--to which i can assure you just about no one in the film, tv, and commercial space in LA or any major market shoots on, or even knows about DZOFilm.
