Found this video 2 years ago for a fishing trip. The spray worked so well that now I was searching for this video again cause Mosquitos are so bad right now. Stuff REALLY works, and smells good, THank you so much!!!
I love this! I am a chemist and I want to let you know DONT put essential oils in plastic bottles. They will react with the plastic. Some of those reaction products could be worse for you than the products on the shelf!! And protected from light is much better as well!! Light breaks those essential oils down
Witch Hazel 1/2 cup Vodka/Alcohol 1 Tablespoon 1/2 cup water Vegetable glycerine 1 teaspoon 30 drops bergamot oil 30 drops cedar oil 10 drops ea of lemon, eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary oil.
I agree. Considering the fact that that’s also how the oils themselves are packaged, that would be a good idea. Some plastic bottles leach into the liquid inside as well. One idea is to store the mixture in a dark glass bottle and then transfer a little bit of it at a time into a small plastic spray bottle.
If you go out in the sun right after putting any citrus oils on your skin, you will get a severe burn. Leave the citrus out. I saw a child on the news that had been burned from citrus. They recommend you wait an hour after topical use before going into direct sun light.
Not for nothing, but if you are using them, consistently, during the summer months, it isn’t going to “go bad”. I have oils, and they are in dark bottles. I use them in sprays, that I use daily. My sprays go quickly, and so far, I have had nothing, “ go bad”. Now, if I was making up massage oils, and used a carrier oil, I would definitely use a dark bottle. Because, the carrier oils could go rancid, before being used, since I don’t use them, as often. Even so, if I was a massage therapist, I would have less need for a dark bottle, because I would be using them more often. Of course, you would definitely want to keep them out of direct sun.
I watched both your videos on this recipe. Made up a batch and the first night I used it over at my neighbors house. We all sat out by the pool and not a single bite. Smells great. Now my Mom who lives in the woods uses this recipe and I've even given a travel bottle to a fellow gardener. Thanks from deep in the heart of Texas!
Down by the bayou need a LOT , also hope it works for horseflies👍🏻. Wearing long pants and sleeves and was still getting eaten up. Thank you. I didn’t know about the glass bottles.
Just a FYI: bergamot and lemon are both citrus oils that will make your skin hyper reactive to UV rays. People have gotten very serious burns this way. Citronella, contrary to what the name suggests, is not from a citrus fruit, so that's fine. I would leave those two out of the recipe if you plan to be wearing this bug repellant on sunny days. Instead of the bergamot, use geranium, like WellnessMama, and instead of the lemon, try lemongrass essential oil, which also has bug repellent properties. The other option is to go ahead and use the citrus oils, and then just spray your bug spray on your clothes and not your skin. If you're going to do that, you could even add some pennyroyal oil, which is a powerful bug repellant, but too strong for skin. Maybe leave out the glycerine, which isn't great for some fibers. Those are my thoughts, hope they're helpful!
Thanks for your very helpful comment !! Have you used this yourself ? And what about our faces ? Won’t mosquitoes still try to get to our faces since most people won’t be spraying this on their face ?
Great tip! One summer, before I knew that much about essential oils, I was putting bergamot below my ears with no carrier oil and caused myself to get photosensitivity. It hurt so bad, like a sunburn inside my whole body. Essential oils are very effective but very strong.
To eliminate mosquitos, fill 5 gallon pail 1/2 water. Buy floating mosquitos donuts at the hardware store. Float one in the water. This will not only kill the mosquitos but the eggs as well. Put out several buckets to cover large area and enjoy your outdoors.
@Rochesterhome, great post. Anyone who wants more info on this method for eliminating mosquitos can search RUclips for "Mosquito Buckets of Doom" or ""Mosquito Buckets.". I recommend using only a quarter or a half of one of the floating mosquitos donuts per 5 gallon bucket and adding a new one regularly.
@@user-xh4ip8kv2sI do the same. 1/4 of a mosquito dunk per 5 gallon bucket filled about half way with water. I drop in a new 1/4 chunk monthly to keep enough BT in the water. I also throw a small handful of soil, a few grass clippings, and a few leaves in the bucket to foul the water a bit. Mosquitos it seems prefer fouled water over nice, clean, fresh water. I place buckets along the perimeter of the yard, giving them plenty of places to lay their eggs that will never grow to adulthood.
Mosquitoes LOVE me! Just bought the ingredients and can’t wait to try this. Thank you for posting the recipe and links! UPDATE: This works so well!!! Not a single bite and smells good. This has been literally life changing for me!
I am a mosquito magnet! I went outside tonight for less than 5 minutes, covered in mosquito bites. UGH. Adding items to my online cart as we speak! So glad to hear this worked for you. If you see this, please let me know how it's worked over time, love to hear an update!
💜 I have used essential oils for many years, this is a great recipe however one should always use glass bottles as the oils can have a reaction releasing chemicals from the plastic which can degrade your oils. Also some oils are photosensitive and should not come in contact with your skin if you are going to be in the sun. Thank you for sharing 💜
Carefull ya'll. The usual Bergamot essential oil and Lemon essential oil are phototoxic if you use too much. If you want to avoid that, buy the bergaptene-free Bergamot or also called Bergamot FCF essential oil, and steam-distilled Lemon essential oil (not cold-pressed lemon). OR You can still use the usual Bergamot at a maximum of 0.4% ratio of the whole batch. And the usual cold-pressed Lemon at a maximum of 2% ratio of the whole batch. Knowledge is power. Be safe.
Can't wait to try it. Besides the fact that the essential oils will degrade in sunlight, some essential oils will actually eat away at plastic. So when using essential oils glass bottles are always best especially when applying on skin.
Thank you Rachel - I am a bug buffet! Anything that bites within 5 miles knows when I am outside. Love the idea of a natural repellent. I always have been concerned about chemical absorption and I am definitely going to try this recipe! It so funny - I just received my first order of Plant Therapy oils so I think this was meant to be!
@@17...20 me too,, in FL I barely close my house door and already I have 2 bites. Also we have yellow flies the bite is super painful and super itchy and can last for over a week. They are v aggressive and follow you into your car to terrorize you while driving.
I made this, because I too, am loved by chiggers, mosquitoes, and every flying/ biting critter.. Within about a month, it has reduced the amount to only one or 2 bug bites every couple of days (vs. 10-15 every couple of days). I use both geranium and bergamot oil in mine as well as cedarwood and that combination has really worked! Thank you!
I made this last summer but never really used it. I have flies on the patio this year and this is fantastic! I spray down the cushions and underside of umbrellas and the bugs leave! Really this is great! No mosquito bites either. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the sharing! I would like to add an important detail that citrus essential oils like lemon, bergamot, etc. can be photosensitive* up to how they are produced. I recommend you check if your essential oil is photosensitive if you are gonna go out and get exposed to the sun or simply go for other options rather than citrus family.
I'll have to try this, my sons can't run around shirtless without getting eaten alive by mosquitos! A note about essential oils...they're not regulated by the EPA/FDA, which means the product labeling isn't checked for accuracy, which means companies have been caught straight-up lying about what's in those little bottles. Cheaper oils are often mostly carrier oil (olive, vegetable, sunflower, etc.) sometimes with synthetic scent added, and there's no real essential oils involved at all. You have to look into who you're buying them from! Transparency is very important; if you can't get info on their facility and distillation process, don't buy.
First, I want to say, thank you, thank you for putting ingredients/amounts in the description!!! So many videos drag you along for 10 minutes before ever hinting at the ingredients or how much to use, thank you, you are obviously genuinely trying to provide helpful information. Second, you say that mosquitos "like" you....... HAHA! Believe me when I tell you, that they ADORE me.... mosquitoes will migrate across 5 state lines to bite me.... something about my blood/chemistry is irresistible.... evidently, my blood is more addictive than crack cocaine... Here, where I live, they literally arrive with 2 gallon gas cans and a funnel to siphon my blood....they look like desert hummingbirds. Thanks again for the video, I will be giving it a try.
I live in Florida and right now it's our rainy season and I work and play outside and you don't need all those ingredients you can use 4 oz of apple cider vinegar 4 oz of purified water 1/2 teaspon of eucalyptus, 1/2 teaspoon of lavender, and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon oil
Ha! This is the recipe I made a year and a half ago! I lost it and wellness mama has put out a new one that's different. I don't have all the oils she now recommends, and anyway this one works Great! Thanks sweetie! I have been searching for so long and I'm almost out of the last batch. What a relief! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Lum💖
I love Plant Therapy myself! They are very affordable and come in 30ml sizes, which are often hard to find unless you want to use a fragrance oil as opposed to a natural essential oil. I also love Wellness mama!
I live in the Tropics on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Right now it's rainy season when there are lots of mosquitoes. I discovered a few years ago that if I dab lavender essential oil on strategic spots on my arms and legs that it alone keeps mosquitoes away. It works much better than commercial products and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy. While I don't doubt the benefits of the spray recipe presented in this video, essential oil can be expensive, especially if you are using so many different types. I just make sure the lavender essential oil is the real thing and not a synthetic product.
@@florencesouthard6804 I just dab the lavender essential oil at my ankles, calves of my legs (because I'm usually wearing shorts), back of upper arms, forearms and inside of forearms... anywhere I typically get mosquito bites. Just try it and adjust locations where you dab the oil as needed. Friends have told me it works well for them too.
Those ingredients are awesome. Love them. I was on another web site and read about using aloe. Get an aloe plant. I'm up north now and they do well in the house during winter and they reproduce so well! Than put them out in the warmer weather! Allow tends to stick to the skin more! It s healing efffects are awesome too! Alcohol dries the skin off and evaporates. I'm going to try and work with this recipe and make it last longer on my skin. I'm in infested bug State Virginia! The ticks are horendous especially with the those teeny tiny ones! Ugh! And my chickens woddles get bit too! Thank you! I will pass this on. It's soooo important. Find out if you have cedar trees and, get your own concotion of cedar materials to add in. I too stock up but try to get the plants I can or learn how to find and harvest! Thank you!
Thank you for your video! I just want to mention that bergamot and lemon are citrus essential oils , all of which can make you photo-sensitive. I learned this the hard way when used them in a homemade body lotion years ago. I went to the beach and got the worst burn of my life where I had blisters under many layers of peeling skin after five days of peeling! I have a naturally olive complexion and rarely burn otherwise, even at the beach. Otherwise I'm going to try your formula. 😊😊
CHICAGO, August 27 - Researchers report that nepetalactone, the essential oil in catnip that gives the plant its characteristic odor, is about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET - the compound used in most commercial insect repellents.

This is wonderful thank you so much for sharing and for sharing how it has worked For you. One thing to note is that anytime you’re using citrus like the Bergamont you really need to be careful and conscientious because it can produce issues when you go out in the sun I can make you photosensitive I can also produce burning so any citrus there’s a reason to not use it In the sunshine. Also I adore wellness mama she’s great

I've gotten eaten up with ants and I don't know what else. So glad I was looking through your videos. I have huge welts from the mystery biter. I'll be making the bug juice asap.
Catra Campolieto - Don't know what kind of ants are biting you but here in the South we deal with fire ants. They are nasty little creatures. Blend some Cajeput essential oil with a carrier oil - 5% dilution rate. Please use a quality brand EO. You can also use Plantain leaves (a weed that grows just about everywhere). Crush them up, mix with a little water to make a paste and apply to bite. In emergency, chew up a leaf (yes, put it in your mouth). The crushed/chewed leaves mixed with your saliva and applied to your bite(s) will take away the sting of the bite. For wasp/hornet/bee stings, use Blue Cypress EO diluted in carrier oil.
Really happy I found this! A few years back one of my daughters casually mentioned, isn't it weird how your lips go numb when you use bug spray? What?! I've been spraying my baby girl (now 20 years old) with toxins causing signs of anaphylaxis. We have use natural alternatives since. Happy to know how to make my own.
Lol! Good analogy by him! Here in Maine, between mosquitos, ticks, horse flies and black flies (smallest but fierce and love behind the ears!), anything to alleviate one or more of these beasties attacks, is worth it. Happy 4th.
I just came outside(we live in Texas & it’s our state bird, the mosquito!) I had them flying around me but they didn’t bite. Make sure you get your clothes because they tried landing & biting but they flew right off once they landed & got the taste. I sprayed my dog too & they swarmed her like usual but flew away before landing. Oh THANK YOU for this recipe!!!!

works! (at least initially, but confident enough to log in a reaction right away). My property is loaded with sitting and running water so the gnats are excruciating. After applying, they didn't disappear completely, but they were incredibly reduced in number and very few ever came too close. Otherwise they'd be ping-ponging off my face, neck and forehead with abandonI And they were noticeably, NOT. To those thinking about whether to believe the reviews, I did and took the leap of faith and ordered, as recommended, everything off of Amazon in bulk. Oh, am I glad I did!
Oh this is great! Every time I step outside I feel like I become an all you can eat buffet. I’m also allergic so I swell up huge. Most of the time I end up having to take Benedril. I’m definitely trying this! Thanks
If you are looking for something better than benadryl for the allergy part look up apice in homeopathy. My daughter used to swell up to the size of a soft ball each time she got a mosquito bite. After I started using apice she doesn't swell like that at all anymore. The 1st time we used apice the hot swelling went away with 20 minutes and never came back. My family that does not believe homeopathy is anything more than "in your head" were amazed and shocked to see her bites disappear right I front of their eyes. It used to take almost 2 weeks before they were almost gone. And on her 3 year old body it was pure torture. She is 10 now, and we haven't had to use apice for 4 years and still no swelling. This works extremely well for mosquito repellent: myrrh resin gum oil (20%) + jojoba oil. Of course, this can be homemade. But it can also be purchased -- NOW brand essential oils makes this (small glass bottle). This is easy to apply on legs, arms, etc without any discomforting effects. 💜
Is this something I can wear all the time? Even to bed? Mosquitos attack me in my sleep sometimes. I always joke, if there is one mosquito left on earth, it will find me. That being said, I made a small batch of this (in an amber glass bottle, not plastic) and I have watched a mosquito approach me and literally turn around and fly away. I spend a lot of time on my patio, and it faces a forested area and a wet climate in Texas. I haven't had issues once using this. Although, I do try and apply every couple hours if I'm outside for a while bc I notice Mosquitos start getting closer after time passes. Still WAY better than smelling like any OTC bugs pray. Thanks so much for this video!! I now have made a large amber glass bottle amount of this since I use it often!
I made a similar spray with some varying essential oils, but they all do about the same thing. Cinnamon and clove and peppermint oils all work great in it, too
Looking forward to trying this. My mom has a hell of a time with mosquitos. They just flock to her. But soaking yourself with OFF! isn't exactly ideal. I sent her this video and she's very excited to get some mixed up.
Thanks for sharing the recipe. Do you happen to have a video of you testing it out in your garden, say on one arm, but not using it on your other arm, so we can see it working as claimed? Thanks and have a great day.

That looks like an amazing recipe, I am going to try it..thank you! One thing to note is that bergamot causes photosensitivity, so if you are going to be in the sun it can create a burning reaction on your skin. May be that geranium is a better option.
Although this was first out about 3 years ago I am still using your recipe as we have every bug known to mankind and ticks every where as I live off the grid and this recipe is fantastic my dog hates it but I spray her and myself all the time Thanks so much ❣️
I have made my own for about three years now without the glycerin or vodka. So if you do t have those you don’t need them. I also add a few more types of oils. Cheers.
I was wondering that myself. I don't drink alcohol so didn't want to buy it and have no other use for the glycerine. I have used a spray with just witch hazel and peppermint and eucalyptus with good success but am always open to trying something new! The witch hazel is so refreshing on a hot summer day!
I use DoTERRA “Terrashield” and add peppermint (small amount as it it hot oil) and cedar with just water and 1 tbsp of almond oil. Smells good and keeps it all away. Spray on clothes and shoes too!
I haven't read through all of the comments, so I don't know if the points I'm about to make have already been addressed. If so, disregard. 1. Bergamot & citrus oils can cause photosensitivity (sun sensitivity, i.e., a tendency to get a sunburn). Certain medications can also cause photosensitivity (some NSAIDS, for example). So care should be taken if spraying such oils on the skin especially if people are prone to burning anyway, or take medications that cause photosensitivity. 2. Lavender is toxic to cats, and I've read it's also toxic to dogs, but some veterinarians use lavender oil on dogs. So that's something to be aware of. With cats, lavender oil can be especially toxic, so it shouldn't be used on them or diffused in rooms where cats are present. The toxicity cats experience is due to an enzyme they lack to help break down any lavender in their system, so it can ultimately cause liver failure. Apparently, this is similar for dogs, but perhaps slightly less so - especially depending on the size of the dog. If planning to use this spray on your animals, it would be a good idea to research if there are any known sensitivities to the oils in the animals you want to use the spray on or around. 3. Just because essential oils are "natural," it doesn't mean they are "safe." That's not to say they aren't beneficial, but they should be used with care. The benefits that come from essential oils come from the life essence that the plants they are extracted from use to defend themselves from harm in the environments in which they are grown, and they are volatile organic compounds. They can offer great benefits, but they should be respected and used with discretion. Often people will have essential oils diffusing throughout their homes constantly throughout the day. While it may make one's home smell good and more pleasant to be in, constantly breathing in the aerosolized oils can also cause sensitivities to the oils you love, as can applying undiluted oils to the skin. So, it's a good idea to use carrier oils (coconut oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, etc.) in oils that are applied to the skin (that's likely what the glycerin and possibly witch hazel from your recipe helps with), and it's a good idea to take breaks from diffusing oils throughout the day and to just let diffusers run intermittently. All of that being said, I'm interested in trying your recipe, and I thank you for sharing it! 🙂
Don’t leave that in your garden in that plastic bottle. If exposed to the sun it should be in a dark glass bottle but I wouldn’t leave it in the sun at all.
Thank you Rachel, the mozzies here in Queensland love me too, even biting me through my clothes! I hate getting bitten and hate using chemicals so I'm definitely making this today (I have mostly everything). Love Wellness Mama too, she's terrific 👍
Have you tried just lemon eucalyptus oil for your essential oil? We have really bad chigger issues in the South. Lemon Eucalyptus (not lemon and eucalyptus) is as effective as DEET. I usually add a little peppermint oil to make it smell better, and it also feels good. I usually just combine the Essential oil with olive oil and rub it on like suntan lotion.
Some brands of witch hazel already have alcohol in it. So you probably wouldn’t need to add the vodka/alcohol. Essential Oils don’t need to be left in too much heat, they will lose their beneficial properties, especially citrus based ones like lemon & bergamot. Also, read the “other ingredients in your oils, some are not of a quality that you would want on your skin, because the skin is highly absorbent, akin to ingestion. So if you want to stay away from “chemical based EOs” don’t waste money on cheap brands! You get what you pay for.
@@barbaraclayton6053 - You're welcome! Since there are no FDA regulations on essential oils, companies can do pretty much whatever they want. Always about making an extra buck, many of them will stretch these oils with synthetics (smell close to the same as original oils but not the same - just can't do what nature does naturally :) ) It frustrates me that so many consumers are giving these unethical companies their hard earned money, and putting synthetics on their body. Comment was made above about therapeutic grade. Young Living started that "phrase" as a marketing term. It has nothing to do with quality or purity.

I agree with many other comments it is best to avoid Amazon as they are terrible to their workers, plastic should not be used because the essential oils can mix with the plastic and be harmful to you, plus essential oils should be stored in light free glass or steel containers. Also wanted to mention I just whipped up a batch from the recipe Kelly gives on Dome Life ( Living outside in Dome tents). You have many fans though, so your's seems proven to work. They are similar recipes. Kelly's is: 10 drops each of: Theives oil Cedarwood Eucalyptus Citronella Peppermint Lavender Teatree (good for ticks) Geranium ( I have heard Rose Geranium is best) Then add 2/3rds of the rest being Witch hazel. Thayers preferred. I might now add Rosemary, glycerine and a bit of alcohol. Seeing as lemon and bergemont are photo sensitive, and I once got a rash from orange, another citrus, I will avoid these. I have put mine in a small stainless steel spray bottle which is safer than glass camping. Everyone is right. These sprays smell wonderful. To us! 😁👍 Thanks to all who have shared with us. Mosquitoes be gone.
Great work:apropos chemistry and plastikbottles, for the same reason we should not,as seen in the film store our essential oil bottles lying flat in a box, they will"eat up" slowly the plastikclosure of the little essesntial oil bottle from within...
Keep the soultion in glass containers and just pour enough in a small plastic sprayer to use and when done open the sprayer to air dry till next use. That will stop most leeching out of chemicals from the plastic if that is your worry.
And on top of your bug spray working so well you must have smelled AMAZINGLY GOOD! These buggers are horrid this year as well as battling chiggers so we have them all, chiggers, mosquitoes, gnats. And in the south you’re sweating within 5 minutes and that’s what brings them. We have tried all the sprays. I decided to try this one I was only missing 1 essential oil and it was essential, citronella. So I wait for it to arrive to add the final ingredient but till then I’ve been using it. It works pretty good. I like it leaves no residue on the skin. No one spray is the perfect one. But I have found the key. I was in Walmart last week looking at sprays and I see head netting like bee netting for your head. 7$. I bought it. That’s IT!! No longer are the buggers buzzing in my hair, my ears. Even with any spray I don’t spray my hair. The sweat attracts them including your breath. I can stay outside all day, a little spray to my arms and legs, put the net over my head and that’s it. I’m not running for my life after 20 minutes. Now for those pesky chiggers. The only thing that seems to keep them at minimum is keep your grass short short. As soon as those seed pods (where we are) they are back. That’s where they hang out till you walk by and brush against that blade. Sorry for the length but maybe it’ll give someone ideas as well. I’m buying more head netting. I think at least 3 🤔
I like the spray. I’ll use it up it may help even more I’m going to guess with citronella. This along with the head net I may not have to ever use chemicals again.

It's really that good! Haven't had a single mosquito bite all year!
Just got to Houston for some work looking up at diy bug repellant I started getting bit in Louisiana. And now I need to repelle the wasps as well
What type of bottles did you use? Comments here are saying don't use plastic
You can get bergaptene free bergamot
Why would anyone try to change this woman’s recipe. I find that ignorant. Get your own uTube Chanel.
Great tip! One summer, before I knew that much about essential oils, I was putting bergamot below my ears with no carrier oil and caused myself to get photosensitivity. It hurt so bad, like a sunburn inside my whole body. Essential oils are very effective but very strong.
Underrated suggestions. Thanks so much.
Did this work?

Cedarcide from Wondercide works too and also kills ants.
Skin so soft from Avon with Lavender oil mixed in it works well too, Ive used it my whole life. Thanks mom!
Just making sure. You are saying this works as a mosquito repellant? If yes, does this need to be applied all over, or not?
@@hawaiinrainbow yes, SSS can be used as a mosquito repellent (even without adding lavender), and yes, spray it wherever protection is needed.
OR
You can still use the usual Bergamot at a maximum of 0.4% ratio of the whole batch.
And the usual cold-pressed Lemon at a maximum of 2% ratio of the whole batch.
Knowledge is power. Be safe.
Thank you for this information!
Knowing this, I'm not using bergamot .
Just don’t put it on until you go out in the evening! 😊
Can't wait to try it. Besides the fact that the essential oils will degrade in sunlight, some essential oils will actually eat away at plastic. So when using essential oils glass bottles are always best especially when applying on skin.
I’ve been using your recipe all summer on myself and my family and it works!!! Way better than any store bought ones! 😃 so thanks for this! ❤️
Fantastic! Hopefully it has what you need
If not I will order some... they are pretty reasonable...
"Bug buffet" SAME! 😂😂😂😂❤
@@17...20 me too,, in FL I barely close my house door and already I have 2 bites. Also we have yellow flies the bite is super painful and super itchy and can last for over a week. They are v aggressive and follow you into your car to terrorize you while driving.
Back when I was in the U.S. Marine Corps, we used Skin So Soft as a bug repellent. It works amazingly good.
Yup
Skin so soft from Avon?
@@Moon_lovelyme yea good stuff ..Worked for us
I used skin so soft too, they should name it skin so delicious, it didn't work for me at all.!
My mom always put that on us.
I got lost when I heard that vodka is needed but then relaxed after I heard that only one spoon will be wasted
Thank you so much.
spraying the umbrella and cushions! very clever. thanx
❤️😂😅 I’m your competition when it comes to those dern bugs!!
Thank you. I have Lyme disease from a tick bite and I really appreciate this.
Lum💖
we just made up 4 more bottles ready for the season
I love Plant Therapy myself! They are very affordable and come in 30ml sizes, which are often hard to find unless you want to use a fragrance oil as opposed to a natural essential oil. I also love Wellness mama!
I realized today that I might as well just save this in one of my playlists because I keep coming back to this video every summer.
Strategic spots being pulse points?
@@florencesouthard6804 I just dab the lavender essential oil at my ankles, calves of my legs (because I'm usually wearing shorts), back of upper arms, forearms and inside of forearms... anywhere I typically get mosquito bites. Just try it and adjust locations where you dab the oil as needed. Friends have told me it works well for them too.
💞Thank You for posting Sir ❣️
Can I put a couple dabs of lavender oil on my face ? Got bit twice on my face yesterday.
I too have used diluted lavander oil and water mix and it works.
I would never use the citrus ones on my skin!!!
CHICAGO, August 27 - Researchers report that nepetalactone, the essential oil in catnip that gives the plant its characteristic odor, is about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET - the compound used in most commercial insect repellents.
Can you link an article?
I tried the catnip oil last week... you didnt mention that ALL of the CATS would chase me down......😂
This is nice to know because I'm allergic to DEET.

I've gotten eaten up with ants and I don't know what else. So glad I was looking through your videos. I have huge welts from the mystery biter. I'll be making the bug juice asap.
Spider bite maybe?
What?!

The glycerin is a preservative, and the alcohol helps emulsify the essential oil, as water and oil don't mix, without an emulsifier.

I use that as well, but ALWAYS open to more ideas! :)
Love this idea i’m looking forward to trying this in the spring and with essential oil’s it’s not gonna smell like deet
Thank you
Yep, I was wondering about safety for animals since I know that dogs have serious reactions to essential oils.
Great points.
Thank you so much!! I have the same machine and the same problem. I’ve been so frustrated! That’s my task for tomorrow. Thank you again.

I wondered if the EOs couldn't just be mixed with lotion. Olive oil, great idea!

Plant Therapy oils are all 100% therapeutic grade, high quality oils, they're just more affordable, because the company isn't MLM.
@@sharihenderson7621 Thank you much. Great info. I didn't know!🦋💖🦋
@@barbaraclayton6053 - You're welcome! Since there are no FDA regulations on essential oils, companies can do pretty much whatever they want. Always about making an extra buck, many of them will stretch these oils with synthetics (smell close to the same as original oils but not the same - just can't do what nature does naturally :) )
It frustrates me that so many consumers are giving these unethical companies their hard earned money, and putting synthetics on their body.
Comment was made above about therapeutic grade. Young Living started that "phrase" as a marketing term. It has nothing to do with quality or purity.
@@sharihenderson7621 Thank you
@@sharihenderson7621 I was wondering the photosynthesis too. Maybe since so little no reaction.
You can use only oil of lemon eucalyptus too.
In your blend you don't need the rosemary lavender.
The cedar should probably be Atlas Cedar
I haven't used OFF in years...no deet for me. I make a spray with the doTERRA terrashield blend, but I am ALWAYS open to having more tools in my tool box. I'm going to give this a try! BTW, got my reusable bamboo paper towels in the mail yesterday. They are nice!
Awesome hope you enjoy them as much as I do
Never heard I d these bamboo paper towels. Can you let me know more about them
Can't wait to try this- mosquitoes love me and it's exhausting- will let you know how it goes- 😇
I've used a combination of vinegar and garlic for ages works well for me, I'm kind of interested in the idea of witch hazel and might add some of that to see if it makes any difference.
I will say that this version probably doesn't require an immediate shower after you come into the house like mine does
Vinegar and garlic? I bet that repels humans also.😖
@@chrisking4636 not if they use it too! It is the sort of thing that you really need to take a shower after you're through being outside. I use Dr Bronner's peppermint soap it really works well and gives you a nice pepperminty smell
@@AldousHuxleysCat
Sounds great! I love peppermint.
That's what I'm trying to avoid. I don't want something that immediately has to be showers off.
Sounds like you'd be deliciously marinated if you happened to trip and fall into the campfire
If you add 1/8th teaspoon of Liquid Lecithin and mix in a blender the oils will emulsify much more efficiently and Tito's is my favorite.
Add vanilla to keep gnats away.
Is gnats the same thing has fruit flies??
I have to make this for my daughter. She’s an environmental science n has to check for ticks carefully every day!!!!
Thank you! Similar to my recipe, I've only used it on my dog! I'm not generally bothered but there are some areas I avoid. Maybe I could go anywhere!
Hello this is awesome. I have most of the essential oils and I do have everything else. Will be making some this week because we are starting to get up in the 80's again. Thank you for writing the recipe in the description box. God bless stay safe and have a wonderful day
Bergamot causes photosensitivity. Also EOs come in dark glass for a reason. EOs are wonderful but you need to educate yourself on their use.
Kelly's is:
10 drops each of:
Theives oil
Cedarwood
Eucalyptus
Citronella
Peppermint
Lavender
Teatree (good for ticks)
Geranium ( I have heard Rose Geranium is best)
Then add 2/3rds of the rest being Witch hazel.
To us! 😁👍
Thanks to all who have shared with us. Mosquitoes be gone.
Great work:apropos chemistry and plastikbottles, for the same reason we should not,as seen in the film store our essential oil bottles lying flat in a box, they will"eat up" slowly the plastikclosure of the little essesntial oil bottle from within...
straight tea tree oil works great for me. works on mosquitos and tics. 🍻
I use Listerine and water for bug repellent, regular Listerine one part Listerine two parts water.
Fave's of mine are Eucalyptus (yes I'm an Aussie), Rosemary and Peppermint but I have all of the essential oils on your list since I use them every day/week/month.
Loved your video, have subscribed to check out the entire playlist/s.
Cheers,
Wendy Xx
praise be he! ohhhhhhh praise praise praise. my GOODNESS what would be do without Him.... HIM!!! oh glory I can't think of a better way to spend my time than think about HIM!! WOOT WOOT. now, let's get those mosquitos.
Thank you for this!! Mosquitoes 🦟 love me!!!! And I hate using chemicals on my body!! Going to give this a try!!! Not 100% on this but I think you need to use glass amber bottles to keep your EO from breaking down and possibly eating through your plastic bottle.
I use a spray bottle for $1 at the dollar store and Listerine works great for me in West Virginia...
Same in Colorado!!😊👍
Listerine for bug spray? You just apply it straight?
I’m going to put some of this in one of my empty dropper bottle for my purse, we’re walking by the lake and having this handy would be great!
Works great in SC. Much love❤️
