I am all for any video that heralds the greatness of Kirk Hammett. You could talk about Kirk’s contributions to Ride the Lightning, but that would be like a 2-hour video, at least.

I might have to do just that as it is the 40th anniversary of that album 😊

I'd LOVE to see you do these kind of videos with some power metal legends such as Stratovarius or Helloween! Timo Tolkki's riffs, beautiful melodies and solo playing in particular always inspired me.

Your guitar picks just came in the mail today!
You really make the difference as a human being, Nico! No one sends letters anymore! You sent me a beautiful card, you cared to go to the post office. That shows the beautiful soul you are.
I am speechless and in Portugal we have this saying: "Amor com Amor se paga", meaning "You pay Love with Love".
In time, you will also hear from me.
THANK YOU!!! You have a friend for life in Portugal!

I remember my brother and I listening to Kill 'em All back in the day and being blown away by the epic guitar solos. They just seemed to go on forever!
Since then I've spent a lot of time learning Kirk's early stuff and just love his style.
Thanks so much for this video, you really can nail his technique. I'd love to see you do Ride the Lightning right up until the Black Album!

Just here to witness the meltdowns of Dave's fanboys.
Yes boys, Kirk did not write the whole solos, he just fixed them and made them sound professional with the limited time he had.

Mustaine re-used the diminished arpeggio of the "Hit The Lights" solo for the intro on "The Skull Beneath The Skin".
The riff beneath that second solo on "No Remorse" is my absolute favorite of the whole album. Mustaine also reworked that riff on his track "Set The World Afire".

When my boy was born we got him a onesie with a milk bottle that says: Spill ‘em All. It is a VERY important album for me, the one I Jumped in the Fire for and to this day and forever a metalhead (among other things lol)!

That's awesome!! 😃🤘I love when parents don't shy away from their love of metal with stuff like that 😊
It's a very important album for me too as those are some of the first songs I leared to play, No Remorse was one of the first songs my first band played and I would watch those songs on Cliff 'Em All all the time!

    Hey Nico.
Wondered if you've ever heard of the "Russian Iron Maiden" Aria.
Some songs did have very similar maiden style riffs even the solos from Rime of the Ancient mariner parts on a song called "Krov za Krov"is my memory is correct.
I dunno could be a cool video idea or just for own curioucity.

Thank you for this video. Kirk gets too much flack imo . He's Kirk Hammett for god sakes. His contribution to Metallica and metal especially Mets first three albums cannot be underestimated. Great job Nico as always.🤘

It's very fashionable for people who have achieved nothing and are unqualified to criticise Metallica. A classic example being the flack that Lars gets.

Fantastic breakdown as always, Nico! If you feel inclined, Metallica recorded a song in Drop-D called All Nightmare Long on Death Magnetic, that I would love to hear you analyze. It's got many Metallica characteristics, but it also feels like an anomaly.

What a great song! On that album and on the subsequent EP "Beyond Magnetic" there are some of the most underrated tracks they ever wrote

I think kirks additions are pretty easy to spot, he definitely brings some “schenkerisms” into his KEA solo contributions. I dont know if that makes sense, but kirk has always praised micheal and acknowledged his love of ufo & msg. There’s pentatonic phrases and sequences that are definitely from kirks schenker obsession, and there are moments (four horsemen mid section) where you’ll hear those ideas and get some different scalar stuff that you didnt really hear dave do on that material. What little tapping you hear on KEA is definitely kirk because i dont think dave really did any of that during his metallica time.

I think he wrote some pretty epic stuff... And there's a good chance a lot of the players you admire were influenced (or at the very least inspired) by Kirk! 🙂
