What I found interesting about this movie was how Belloc actually cared about Duncan and Margaret. In most stories that involve monster kings hooking up with human women, the monster dad is usually portrayed as being unaware of their existence, or if they are aware they attempt to kill the child for potentially being a threat to their status. When Belloc’s subjects denounce Duncan and call him a traitor for procreating with a human and wanting Duncan to be his air, he defended his choice by demonstrating Duncan’s power to them. The one time he destroyed a city (post war) was when he was looking for Duncan. It’s hard to go anywhere in the human wold when you’re 50 ft tall, and I doubt Kaiju have access to phones.

Honestly, I loved this movie. I thought it was amazing and I ended up rewatching the whole movie on a RUclips video about a year ago. It was amazing imo.
I loved this movie and Duncan's Wings is the best part, I prefer the design in the movie but I don't understand why this movie didn't get a sequel or tv series, like seriously how and why? It's so good and it doesn't make sense how it didn't work out to get one of the two or both.
I always thought the movie was good and the characters were badass, that part where the mom talks to Duncam about his Kaiju father regarding how he was even born was odd af lmao
Definitely remember really enjoying the movie and always wondered why nothing was ever done with it. I do think a comparison with the comic would be good especially to see what was changed for the film and the other comics which would have been good for adaptation in another movie or potential tv series.
They use to play all the time in Mexican Cartoon Network when I was kid along with this other anime-inpsired film called Exchnage Student Zero. I thought I was the only one who remembered it lol.
Aww man I do remember this movie lol. I didn’t even know it was a comic based off it til few years afterward. It had some potential to become a full series.

Ok 2 things 1st a while back I found 2 issues of fire breather and while at first I didn’t like the style but it grew in me really fast. And 2nd yea Firebreather, Invincible, Spawn and a few others crossed over
All I want is for firebreather to be brought back as a 2 season tv series that reveals it takes place on the same earth as Max Steel. They are similar in nature and even in setting. Would make for a good crossover episode.
Maaaan I remember the trailers for this movie and being so excited for it as a kid. Never got to see it on Tv though. I did manage to get a dvd and it was worth it to me!
I found a list on a subreddit for the top 20 highest viewed Cartoon Network telecasts and this movie was in the top 10 I haven't seen this movie since it was still playing. I didn't love it or anything but if got picked up for a series, I would've watched it.
I was absolutely enthralled by this movie as a kid and I was obsessed with the Duncan character. I had a MAJOR crush on him and I still do 😆 He's such a babe. Who doesn't want a half-dragon daddy as a bf??
Oh gee, I remember watching this on tv, I was cringing so hard that I think i've only watched like 20 minutes or so. I was also disappointed that he never turned into a full dragon, just some dragon boy. I loved dragons so I felt blueballed
I think this movie litterally shaped my whole life when I look back at it, but for some odd reason I forgot it completely. All of the characters in this movie are just the blueprint of how I saw the world as a kid. Duncan is just the type of character I was trying to be with his cool and carefree demeanor while also being a bit clumsy socially and all of his friends and social circle are just like my own. It's even weirder looking at Jenna because her looks are pretty much the exact hing I have always been looking for in women and the way she acts is pretty much the exact thing I looked for in highschool when talking to girls. My current GF while obviously not a carbon copy of Jenna even has certain features about her that I find to be earily similar which is a bit weird. Also there are just so many lines from this movie that I have repeated even now 10 years later that I didn't even realize I got from this film, especially the "I want them yesterday" because that one I have used atleast once every 3 months ever since and I have even thought about the phrase outside of conversation just because I liked it so much. Weird to think about all this.
I’m still bummed this didn’t get a series. Only criticism I had for it was sometimes the characters looked deadeyed. That’s literally it for me, far as I can remember. This and Generator Rex hit at the perfect time for me, along with Young Justice coming right when I was becoming a true DC fan. I feel like if it was a show instead of a movie, it could’ve address a lot of its objective problems.
So the whole deal with the lava bath is it was supposed to represent a sort of kaiju Baptism. Being born a new into his new body now that his father's blood had fully awakened

This could work for a return of some kind. Image Comics characters are a pantheon that hasn't been milked to death yet so there plenty that can still be done with them. Just don't get Rob Leifeld involved, as Linkara said "he's not an artist".
The question I was always asking as a kid was how the hell did level up get a TV show and not fire breather. Which would you rather watch, carton network copying Diseny channels lame ass formula for live action shows?
