aespa stands for “Avatar X Experience” and “aspect”. It’s supposed to mean “experiencing different aspects of a new world through the avatar or other self”
The group makes their debut alongside their own “ae” avatars, a concept serving as the label’s first project in its SMCU (SM CULTURE UNIVERSE) vision for the future of entertainment, aespa will project a future world centered on celebrities and avatars, and will be born into a group of completely new and innovative concepts that transcend the boundaries between the real world and the virtual world.
    There's a story MV :
    1. Black Mamba : Introducing the villain
    2. SM Culture Universe EP.1 "Black Mamba" : for an explanation in their lore and concept.
    3. Next Level : Aespa prepares to go to KWANGYA to defeat the black mamba
    4. Savage : The Battle
You should definitely react to 'SM Culture Universe Ep:1 “Black Mamba” (10 minutes video)' to understand aespa's concept and lore.
DREAMS COME TRUE is not an official comeback, it an SM's project for remastering. This is a remake from S.E.S. who did Dreams Come True in 1998. You probably haven't heard of S.E.S., the first ever kpop girl group and they are from SM too.
Fun fact: The SM Culture Universe concept is inspired by Marvel, so SMCU is not only for AESPA but for all SM artists and groups who will be connected later, such as EXO, NCT, Red Velvet.
I suggest searching for the important words/acronyms in their storyline.
FLAT - where AEs Reside / Digital World
Kwangya - is described as an unruled and infinite place located beyond FLAT with no rule or form.
Kosmo - The Higher form of Universe / Higher or more surreal than Kwangya.
Naevis - The One who opens the P.O.S and the portal to Kwangya.
P.O.S - Port of Soul/ connects the real world and digital world .
SYNK - Humans Connecting with AEs.
REKALL - AEs crossing the Real World.
Black Mamba - The evil entity in KWANGYA that disconnects aespa and æ-aespa’s SYNK.

    well, the words meaning
æ - an another self in a virtual world who thinks and lives in its own way. even though humans are sometimes unaware of their own æ, there are cases when they interact.
    ænergy - aespa’s energy potential.
black mamba - an existence who interferes with SYNK between humans and æ.
    ether - a subconscious world.
    FLAT - a world where æ live.
KOSMO - a transcendent space beyond KWANGYA not even aespa have yet reached.
KWANGYA - an undefined, irregular, amorphous and infinite realm past FLAT which was created from ether.
MY - the most precious friends from KWANGYA.
nævis - a mysterious being who acts as a reliable guide supporting aespa and æ.
P.O.S (port of soul) - an energy which connects FLAT with the real world. before æ was well known, traces of P.O.S were considered sinkholes. it hasn’t been yet revealed what opens it.
REKALL - a phenomenon of æ ascending the real world.
SYNK - a connection between humans and æ. the more thoughts and feelings are shared, the higher the SYNK level goes. when it is at its peak, æ are able to REKALL.
SYNK DIVE - a state in which humans and æ’s consciousnesses are synchronized.
SYNK OUT - a situation when SYNK between humans and æ gets cut off by force.

Aespa concept is so unique u will not find it in any other groups but sometimes it's hard to understand it what I know kwangya is a place or another world dimension and There's a villain Blackmamba and naevis is helping aespa to defeat this villain it's confusing TBh but super interesting and I heard a theory that other SM groups are all connected in it especially (RV)

  • @minowillow
    @minowillow 2 года назад +71

KWANGYA is a planet where the black mamba (the enemy) lives, and aespa and her avatars (the animated girls) are trying to defeat the black mamba, in next level they go to kwangya to fight the black mamba, and in savage they are in an hallucination created by the black mamba and NAEVIS (the other animated character with black short hair, the leader) sacrifices herself to help aespa. you can also hear kwangya in other SM songs, like NCT and EXO, the universe of all sm groups are connected.
You should also watch "aespa ep1: black mamba - SM culture universe" if you want to understand more about their storyline.
"Dreams come true" is a cover/remake of an existing song from 1998 called "dreams come true" by the group s.e.s by the same company SM.
You should also listen to "FOREVER" by aespa if you want to hear their beautiful voices, is a ballad kinda song, but is really good.

I don’t think aespa fans have even noticed because their fandom seems to be naive.

Kwangya roughly translates to “wilderness” or “the wilderness”. It references some transcendent plane thingy (others have explained it better in other comments) and it particularly fits AESPA’s Virtual counterpart thingy (sorry forgot what they are called). Idky but SM is obsessed with it, and all their artists use it, some more than others tho. I think it’s appeared in most of AESPA’s title tracks. There’s video compilations of it.

As with all the groups under SM Entertainment, their storylines and concepts are all part of SM's Universe, including aespa's storyline. aespa's story, so far, primarily connects to EXO's and SuperM's storylines. I think SM has set it up so that at least all of their third generation groups -- and now even fourth gen. groups, with the introduction of aespa -- have storylines that connect, link together and intertwine. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together there are threads of connections between the groups.
To help you start to understand aespa better as a group and to explain a little more about what is happening in their MVs, if you haven't already, you should watch aespa's "aespa 'ep1. Black Mamba' - SM Culture Universe" video that was released right before their MV for "Next Level" was released. It's the first episode of aespa's drama and it explains in more detail about aespa's storyline.
As with everything that SM does, aespa is much more than just a singing group. They have a whole story that is more like a movie or an epic novel and all their MVs and everything they do is connected.
aespa is a four member girl group whose concept revolves around the fact that their name means "avatar experience" and each of the girls has an avatar character -- as you see with their animated characters and scenes -- so they also are superhero-like beings, just like EXO and the members of SuperM.
Their avatars aren't exactly "virtual members," but they are virtual characters that represent each of the members in the digital realm. As part of aespa's concept, it is thought that anyone who does anything online has a virtual character that lives online that represents them -- everytime we do anything online we leave a piece of digital DNA which is what is used to create our digital selves or avatar. If you watch the video I suggested above, this will all become more clear and aespa's concept should make more sense.
And just like EXO, the members of aespa all have their own powers and symbols that represent them:
💓Karina (Yoo JiMin) is the leader of the group, she is a main dancer and lead rapper: her symbol is a heart and her spirit animal is a whale. She is Korean.
🌕Giselle (Uchinaga Aeri) is the main rapper and a vocalist: her symbol is the moon and her spirit animal is a unicorn. She is Japanese.
⭐Winter (Kim MinJeong) is a lead dancer, lead vocalist and the visual of the group: her symbol is a star and her spirit animal is a Siberian Husky dog. She is Korean
🦋NingNing (Níng Yìzhuo) is the maknae and the main vocalist: her symbol is a butterfly and her spirit animal is a tiger. She is Chinese.
In order to understand aespa's storyline, you really have to pay attention to the lyrics of their songs, because the lyrics help to explain aespa's concept and what is happening in their MVs.
The Black Mamba (represented by the snake) they refer to in their songs is a dark force that stops them from connecting to their avatars. As the "Black Mamba" lyrics say, they "synk out," etc. and you see all the glitches happening. The aespa members are trying to overcome the Black Mamba and connect with their avatars again.
The way I see it is, there are two dimensions: aespa in the real world and their avatars (Kwangya) world. Aespa are connected to their avatars and everything the aespa members do in real life gives power to their avatars.
However, because of the Black Mamba's temptation, aespa and their avatars cannot connect through the SYNK app anymore, so their avatars become lost. In "Black Mamba" you see Ningning as she is searching through the Kwangya world on her computer trying to find their avatars. Ningning and the other members are lured into the Kwangya realm by the Black Mamba. But there seems to be some sort of crossover between realms as well. For example, in the train scene in "Black Mamba", aespa in the real world is also being overcome by the Black Mamba. Their world seems to be in ruins or being destroyed. In the last scene of "Black Mamba", the avatars seem to be drawn into aespa's real world and I think this is really the start of aespa's whole story. This is where they establish the fact that aspea, from now on, probably, will be spending a majority of their storyline fighting the Black Mamba alongside their avatars.
I also see the train scene in "Black Mamba" as possibly being connected to the train scenes in SM's Universe storyline. I think that the train theme is somehow connected to SuperM's/EXO's storyline, however, I am not sure how yet. All I know is that, we see SuperM in a subway train in their "100" MV, we see SHINee in an old train station in their recent comeback with their "Don't Call Me" MV and Baekhyun from EXO is on an old train in his most recent solo "Bambi" MV. We even see Kai on train tracks in his "Film: Kai" solo debut teaser video during his "Amnesia" section of the video and people on a subway train platform as it transitions to his song "Mmmh." And before that we saw Key from SHINee in a subway train in his solo debut song "One of Those Nights." And if we go back even further, you see EXO on train tracks in their "Love Me Right" MV and EXO-CBX (which Baekhyun is also a member of) on train tracks in their "Horololo" MV, etc. From what I know about how SM is constantly designing the story to connect between the groups, I am pretty sure this means that they are all connected.
The MV for "Next Level" tells aespa's backstory and explains a lot of what we saw happening in their "Black Mamba," MV. I think in "Next Level" aespa is on a mission to try and stop the Black Mamba hacker and find their avatars in order to re-establish a connection.
Fun fact: The song intentionally switches up in "Next Level" at that specific moment because, if you pay attention to the lyrics, it says "Naevis calling" which is referring to the fact that their avatars are summoning them to their Kwangya realm, so they teleport to the virtual realm (where everything is different) and then when the beat switches back to "Next Level" they are shown going back to the real world. Everything SM does, even the most minute detail, such as the structure of the song is done for a very specific reason.
However, this is far from the first time SM has ever done mashups and had songs where it switches up the beat to a completely different song in the middle of the song. It started with songs like Girls' Generations "I Got A Boy," and they have done it with SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)", F(X) and Red Velvet and NCT/WayV songs, and even SuperM's song "One (Monster & Infinity)." It's a very signature SM style.
The 5th animated character you see in "Savage" is Naevis who is the creator and designer of the Kwangya world -- kind of like the site administrator -- so that is why you see aespa say, "My naevis we love you" several times in the "Savage" lyrics, because they are thanking naevis for looking out for them, protecting them and doing all they can to prevent and eliminate the Black Mamba hacker. Which is why in the lyrics of "Next Level" they say, " My Naevis ... where you lead we follow," etc., because they trust Naevis to protect them from the Black Mamba and protect the virtual word, etc.
I think in "Savage" aespa is under the Black Mamba hacker's control and they are gearing up to fight the Black Mamba in order to gain back control and to connect with their avatars once again.
Often, when characters within SM MVs have blue eyes or different eye colors this usually is an indication that that person isn't themselves, i.e. they aren't who we think they are. It is thought to be used to show that they are a clone or alter ego, etc., under the control of an evil force.
I think the eye you see in "Savage" has something to do with the Black Mamba because it looks like a serpent's eye. I think it might be what the Black Mamba hacker uses to spy on everything and to keep in control, which is why Winter shoots the eye in order to destroy it. And I also think it's connected to the eye we see in other SM MVs, such as EXO Lay's solo "Namanana" MV and EXO Kai's "Mmmh" MV, and maybe even the eye symbol and closeup of the dragon's eye in Lay's solo "Lit" MV. The eyes all look slightly different, but I think they are supposed to be a symbol that connects something within the larger storyline of SM's SM Culture Universe. (Maybe a metaphor for how "big brother" government is always watching us, and is always in control behind the scenes, etc.)
To learn more about SM's Universe and how aespa is connected, please see the rest of my comment attached in the replay.

To understand how all of SM's groups are connected, you need to be aware that it all began with EXO's debut in 2012. As you may know, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from Planet Exo who have been sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are believed to be caused by the Red Force. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda -- corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world, such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc.
Some theories even believe that Red Velvet is connected to EXO's storyline. Some think that Red Velvet, EXO's sister group, could be the Red Force.
And SuperM is the Kpop industry's very first supergroup which debuted in October 2019. Their concept and storyline is centered around the fact that they are Avenger-like superheros, so SuperM is the group that pretty much connects everything together. As part of EXO's story, Baekhyun and Kai -- who are members of EXO -- have recruited members from SM Entertainment's other male Kpop groups -- Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT and Ten and Lucas from WayV -- and formed SuperM, to help them battle the Red Force.
It is said that the concept for SuperM is supposed to be like the Avengers, so, I see it as each of the members are a different kind of superhero that make up the larger "Avengers" group, just like how the Marvel Avenger members come together from all walks of life with all different abilities and powers, etc. to make up one big supergroup.
Also, just like how the Marvel Avengers come together to combine their strengths and powers to help fight Thanos, I see parallels with what SM is doing with SuperM's storyline. SuperM is taking members from each group and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight.
Theories have also speculated that NCT's/WayV's dream concept and storyline also connects to EXO's storyline. As with everything NCT does, it all has to do with dreams, dreaming or something to do with being in a dream state, which could very easily connect to EXO's other world and other dimension theories.
Now, to explain how aespa is connected to the story. aespa debuted in November 2020, and so far they have 3 MVs that are connected to their storyline.
I am also starting to wonder if maybe aespa has something to do with the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline, because, in "Next Level," you see aespa and their avatars with what looks like the mother tree from the Hollywood movie "Avatar," so I wonder if maybe aespa were made the guardians of the Tree of Life, tasked with hiding the two halves of the tree. So, maybe the Tree of Life is what the Black Mamba is after.
I think the Black Mamba maybe working with the Red Force, or it could be a separate evil being who also wants to find the Tree of Life and prevent peace from being restored in the Universe.
As we are told in the intro of EXO's debut "Mama" MV, the Tree of Life was split in half in order to prevent the Red Force from gaining control of the heart of the Tree of Life. However, things on Earth have gotten out of hand, so now EXO needs to reunite the two halves of the tree in order to restore peace. So, I think part of EXO's mission is they are on a quest to find aespa in order to reveal where the tree was hidden.
aespa was first introduced to the world in a teaser at the end of SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV in 2020 -- about a week or so before aespa's debut. In the last scene of the "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, we see Taemin with an LG phone and on the phone screen there is a symbol that appears. At the time, when that MV was released, we had no idea what that meant. However, soon after that, we discovered that the symbol you see on Taemin's phone -- ae -- is the logo/symbol for aespa. So, on top of being a teaser for aespa's debut, I think by making aespa a part of SuperM's MV, this was SM's way of establishing aespa's connection to SuperM's/EXO's storyline.
Will aespa eventually join forces with EXO to defeat evil or will the Black Mamba gain control and cause aespa to team up with (Red Velvet?) and become members of the Red Force? We will just have to wait to see how SM connects the dots and draws the storylines together. But I have a feeling that, eventually, aespa's story will connect to SuperM's story, and, along the way, also EXO, NCT and Red Velvet's storyline, and maybe Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. (Even though SHINee is part of the second generation in Kpop, the members are the same age as third generation group members, so they sort of bridge that gap between second and third generation.)
aespa's story is just another one of SM's epic concepts and mysteries that we will have to wait and see where it takes us.

As others may have mentioned, aespa's "Dreams Come True" is the remake of a classic hit from SM's very first Kpop girl group S.E.S. from the '90s. This whole Station project was produced by BoA -- who is an SM solo artist that has been in the industry for more than two decades -- in collaboration with Bada -- who is a member of S.E.S. Everything from the rewriting and restyling of the song, to the choice of choreography and MV concept was orchestrated by BoA, and she specifically did it all with aespa in mind because she thinks aespa is becoming the S.E.S. for the new generation. aespa debuted in November 2020 and they are SM's first 4th generation group.
If you haven't already, you should check out S.E.S.'s original version MV in order to really understand aespa's song and MV concept. The English lines are the same lines from the original version. And the fairy wings and a lot of those dance moves are an iconic part of the original MV and choreography, it's all part of a homage to S.E.S.'s version.
It was BoA's idea to give the vocalists rap lines and to showcase the power vocals of the rappers. Hence why Karina -- who is the leader, main dancer and lead rapper of the group -- was given a main vocal part. It just goes to show you, yet again, why they are an SM group, because even the rappers are amazing singers.
Fun fact: Yoo YoungJin, who is an SM singer, songwriter, main producer and vocal coach, etc., is the one that does the alien rap voice in S.E.S.'s original version of "Dreams Come True."
Plus, if you want to see how this whole project came about and the behind the scenes of them making everything, you should check out all the episodes of SM's "Re:MASTERPIECE" project, which is a sort of a documentary look at everything that went into remastering this classic hit. It was really interesting to see BoA use her years of experience and expertise to mentor aespa and to put everything she has learned in her 21+ years in the industry as one of the best female singers and dancers, into creating this project.

Aespa are an SM group, back in 2020 the CEO of SM produced a song for the girl group LOONA where he was inspired to create a group with a similar concept (having a storyline and multiple universes)
If you watch some aespa videos in order, combined they will make a storyline. There are a lot of RUclips videos you can watch that explain it better than I can. There are some words in aespa songs that are exclusive to sm and the 'SMCU' Like KWANGYA etc

    • @zishana_ash
      @zishana_ash 2 года назад

I do not think Aespa was inspired by Loona's concept because the word Kwangya was even registered under SM since 1990+ . There were also a lot of hints to other SM artist about the whole kwangya universe

You will never understand Aespa' s song if you do not know their lore. Basically all the lyrics of their main title track was based on their lore, so hearing words like Kwangya, synk, black mamba, kosmo and such are very normal. You will hear more like that in the future. Aespa is the first group that have this concept about digital world which is very timely and relevant. They are coming back this July with their 2nd mini album called Girls. Today, they dropped SMCU ep 2. SMCU is like a movie series video where they talk and explained their lore in a more detailed manner. You will be able to understand their lore from that. I am recommending you to watch SMCU ep 1 and 2 to fully enjoy Aespa's music. Meanwhile, you can also react to Savage Album, their bsides are top tier. There are pre released songs too like Illusion and Life is too short from their new album Girls which you can check out. Life is too short was first perform on their Coachella performance.

NCT, AESPA and stray kids that you mentioned at the start of your video have negative comments because they have experimental and noise music (which I hate the word noise cause any sound can make noise) but let's say EDM music (which I personally love) and in my opinion the fact that it's completely different- unique sound and style, people can't easily accept something new-different-futuristic-ahead of its time and adjust to it. That's why I think their music is hard to listen to. And it actually makes me sad that they don't give them a chance they make SUCH GREAT MUSIC and their B-sides are amazing too. They're full of talent
