My father Brian was Marketing Director for Paton in Melbourne... I remember all this as a kid and loved it! Thank goodness I never took up smoking! I loved that music - I guess it's original? Does it have a name?
I remember Brian very fondly. Patons was about a decade ahead of other agences having a Marketing Director on board. The Dunhill theme was composed before musical genius Bruce Clark and recorded in his studio.
I cannot thanks you enough for these ads. I was around 14yrs old when I heard the 'House Of Dunhill Music'on these adds and have tried to hear them again for years. Just can't believe my luck. Thanks so much. I am enjoying the commentary, but that beautiful music is fantastic . Thanks again and cheers.
Always beautiful young people ,never showing those in the cancer wards waiting for a lung transplant....Nice melodies with a distinguished English announcer though for those stupid enough to use the product............
@@dwightdodd3734But I have reached the conclusion that some of the consequences arising from the reduction of smoking levels include the higher levels of obesity and increased levels of mental stress and illness that seem to be part of our modern world
Thankyou for these wonderful advertisments. I have always loved the music that accompanies them. I always wanted to know where did this beautifully refined music come from. Thanks for telling me. The rolls royces and the over voice all add to the refinement of the presentation. But the music stands out to me most of all. Can't believe my luck to hear it again.thanks
Oh that's a shame! I was hoping to find the one I was in - around 1972. Two racing yachts and a maroon Jensen Interceptor. Really lovely model and good actor who was a useless sailor. Big budget stuff with helicopter shots and Lutie and Stormvogel hired for several days. What fun!
70s? Marcus that's not good enough for me 😀. I have a thing about films/books wanting to know the dates of them. They look very early 70s 70, 71 maybe?
Most of these adverts were shown on TV in South Africa and Australia where cigarette advertising on TV was allowed but only cinemas in the UK because cigarette advertising on TV was banned in the UK in 1965 though the last one would have been allowed as it featured pipes and lighters
Hi Marcus, I loved those ads too, they came across far better in original condition and through a Val Guest PA but a nostalgic thirst slakes easy hey buddy. In fact I wrote to the Dunhill Company many years ago trying to find a score or Session sheet to the very last one that after 40 odd years have just found thanks to you; and the delightful guys at Dunhill sent me an old style cassette tape of what they had. I now find out through you it was Bruce Clark! Not Bruce Clark OAM Australian composer and Jazz Guitar Player do you mean?, as he passed in 2008. But did I think to ask him NUH. And I kid you not, I was rehearsing his arrangements "Polka Dots and Moonbeams and Cumquat Changes" (and is on my Music stand as I write) as this search hit and knew I had found them. Tenacity with a hint of the Gods.Uncanny how the world operates on the subjective consciousness. Do you have any of the older Dunhill fanfares that echo an almost Purcell like scoring?
When I first started Sign writing, all the old guys Sign wrote in a suit and tie, some with Fedoras and Trilbys, with long neat aprons on. I still have one of the Aprons, and that was in Australia at Althouse & Geiger. It was all part of the cultured past. I still love a good Cashmere suit and am half way through knocking one up English Drape Vogue pattern. God knows I couldn't afford one Bespoke any other way these days at 180 bucks a metre.
Mr. tarrant, perhaps you can help me: I remember a commercial from Dunhill where a plane passes near a castle at night (my very favorite) The ship was a Beechraft Bonanza -impossible to forget that V-tail)... well... the background music is a jazz melody... I have tried to get the name of that melody for years, without success. Canyou help me with the title, please?
Hello Oscar. Thanks for your note. I have checked with my colleagues and none of us remember any of our Australian Dunhill ads in which a Beechcraft Bonanza appeared. All our ads featured the same melody (with some immprovisation) but I wouldn't charactise any as 'jazz'. It may have been a commercial that appeared elsewhere, England or South Africa, perhaps. All the best, Marcus
And what pigs of aircraft to fly. The Appanage swinging around all over the road like a mad womans..... shopping. To hold attitude was a lucky dip, forget about setting trim. I'll never get in one of those again. Terrifying machines.
would love to see more of the interior of the old London store
"... THE GENTLE ART OF SMOKING." That's one way of putting it I suppose.
... am born as a daughTer and am

I would have been around 10 when these ads were on - my sister and I loved them, the ultimate in sophistication
Just been looking at those other 'ultimate in sophistication' 1970's ads - for Martini.
Simpler times! I miss them!
Me too.
Ah. The good old days. When smoking was good for you!

Good ol 70s!!! Nice scenery, tranquil music! These were enjoyable to watch! Thnx!
I know Bill Gyori The 60s and 70s were a great time
2:18 It sounds as if the voiceover proudly proclaims, "Dunghill."
Is that because they taste like sh!t?

Yeh, three cheers for Marcus. I'd been looking for them for years too.
Did you smoke Dunhills? I started smoking Marlboro at 14 best thing I ever did.
I have always loved the House Of Dunhill music too and first heard these adds at around the age of 14 and have never forgotten this music.
"The gentle art of smoking?" What in the world?
Can't play a flute when you are out of breath from smoking 😁
Yes that s true Johnny

2:08 "Downhill, The gentle art of topping yourself!"
Dunhill international great cigarette. Still smoke them to these day
And I still smoke the Marlboro brand I fell in love with at 14.
At any moment I was expecting the Bomb to go off , reminds me of the scary public information films from the 70s.
Those ads are sensuous. Very relaxing ambiance. A classy cigarette to unwind stress.
back when cancer was cool

I was an Embassy Kings man myself. But when I got back from Germany, they seemed to disappear!
The past beats inside me like a second heart.
I can relate to this myself.
"The past beats inside me like a second heart." You'll probably need one if you smoke.
And remember boys, If she smokes, she pokes !
Young teen boys would do well to remember ... And enjoy.

Nope, cigarette advertising in SA was never allowed on TV. Cinema yes.

I buy Dunhill here in the US. Great tasting cigarette.
Very classy looking packaging! Love the Dunhill Red/Gold design. (Sorry B&H, you just missed out, LoL)
Good smokes! I like Chesterfield filters better though.
who is the female model?
Sorry, it's so long ago I can't remember.
Dunhill, the most distinguished tobacco house in the world killed my grandmother.
Nope. She killed herself.
It killed a lot of people.
Hot birds, full retro bushes, yeah baby YEAH!!
Marcus. Did you get any freebies from Dunghill?
Great Upload! Love Dunhill stuff, Thanks
Cool advertising

That makes the context look less luxurious.
I’m ever so posh and I will make sure everybody knows how special I am… 🤣🙄
Dunhill quality has changed through the years! Not the same it used to be👎
Always enjoyed a sandwich in Bucklers Hard
Maidenhead, lochs opening, Buckler's Hard, we get it.
Meanwhile, back in the lung transplant department ! 😥
A lung transplant ain't gonna save you.
