    Hello, on the rear of my b8 one of the subframe bolts rounded the head of is there any way I get this out? Nothing would budge it siezed solid. Is it possible just to leave it in place and what other approach could I take to fitting new springs without getting the subframe bolts loosened. One bolt beat me the one closest to rear bumper .. to the left if your facing inwards. Thanks

    This is very good, thanks! I took the bolts out of the sub frame. Once the straps were on the spring it was totally easy if you jack it up slowly with the spring in. I also want to note, compress the spring quite a bit and make sure your straps are double looped before you tie them. My straps were 18 inches or so each so there was plenty of material to make double loops and not single ones. Otherwise if you single loop it they tend to let the spring recover too much and you wont be able to get it in as the knot tightens it elongates the loop and you are done for then. His home made tool for compressing the spring is way better then the store bought ones.

  • @dyfroberts5818

    Good video,im just wondering with the 1” threaded bar what did you use as ends to compress the spring
    Does anybody have any ideas?

    • @STEVO-hn5su
      @STEVO-hn5su 2 года назад +1

      I think he made a mistake there as there's no way the threaded bar was 1". More like 1/2".
      Apart from that small error, the video was very helpful indeed.
      Looks like he used circular plates or very large penny washers as end plates to compress the spring.
      You can buy decent spring compressors online for about £10.

      I know right why do u have to leave one on???? And if its a lowered springs surely u dont need to compress the spring or use a strap???

    Didn't show the straps or explain how to compress that part of it. Big MISSING PIECE, that was the most important part.

    • @Finn-yd3dv

      I think there is a good argument that if you struggle with that, you shouldn’t be be attempting this repair.

  • @heroiudaniel7102
    @heroiudaniel7102 4 года назад +1

    Hello! It is not necessary to compress the spring! Just remove the 2 bolts (one of them 3:04) and be careful, the whole part will goes down. And very important lift the car from both sides.

    • @itstheterranaut
      @itstheterranaut 4 года назад +2

      Thats not a great idea. Complete removal of these bolts should require that the subframe be realigned when reattached. The mechanic here avoided that by only loosening them. Its a good way to do it.
