Fixing Loose Wheel Bearing Dust Cap

- I replaced the brake pads, rotor, and caliper on my Chevy Astro Van. The wheel bearing cap keeps dust and debris from contaminating the wheel bearing grease. The wheel bearing dust cap not snug and falls off. Therefore, I need the bearing grease dust cap to fit tightly and not fall off. My first attempt to fasten tightly the dust cap using a 1-1/2-inch steel pipe cap and hammer. Unfortunately, the wheel hub dust cap didn’t tighten on first attempt. Afterward, I attempt making dimples on the outer walls to tighten the bearing cap. Finally, the wheel bearing dust cap fits securely into place.
Dimpling the grease cap worked. No one else on the internet but I know of had any solution at all. I thought about shim material. But I think I'll try the dimpling. Thanks for the video.
I thought of this too, but it will leak. I have this problem on a boat trailer. Needs to be sealed. I may try to use a cone and a hammer to try to widen it a bit
Looks like a good idea. I was thinking of using some of that high temperature orange silicone.
Well that was very helpful 👏🏼 thank you very much beer on me 👏🏼👏🏼
Very good video. Exactly my problem. Thank you !
Cut a bike inner tube and put it on the hub and the dust cap like a sleeve that works too
Thanks man this worked for me!
Mine are tight as hell had to drive them on and still keep flying off
Thank you!
Mine are thicker gauge metal, and the dimpling didn't work, especially with all the grease in the cup. I just banged it enough on one side with a hammer to make it slightly out of round, and now it stays in place. There's lots of grease on it and will be lots of dirt shortly, so I have no concerns about it sealing.
Thank you. You have no idea how much your response help me out. Thank you and God bless
One way not to do it... lol
Thanks mate!
A little bead of RTV?
Bet it leaks
