Sometimes it's a day of setup for ten minutes of cutting, sometimes it's the other way around. Thank you for filming your work, there isn't much on RUclips for vertical lathe work.
25 years ago my uncle did this kind of work his whole life and growing up as a teenager it was always a blast when me and my cousin did some “work “ school holidays at the engineering shop where he worked for many years. Very nice memories they had one with a 20 ton chuck was 3 stories heigh when that thing started up the whole shop was humming and made the the hair on your neck stand up when you see that massive thing spinning faster and faster was awesome to see could stand there for hours on end and not get bored with it, massive chunks coming of like it’s nothing you could almost feel it cutting making you retreat in respect ✊ 💪🏻👍🏻
1:14 - Most channels show the work-piece already in the chuck. Thank you for including the chucking process. It's not that it was a mystery, just that there were many imaginable processes and it's nice to see which is used, at least here. But I'm surprised those jaws weren't fastened to the plate with a torque-wrench. 3:40 - Use a 'blade' between the forged slag and the indicator foot; saves indicators from the side-loads. 4:16 - Oops, my mistake. You're not dragging the indicator across the slag. 4:27 - Torques spec: HARD.
all you guys with your problems with his setup and processing, you would still be cleaning and obsessing over your tooling while this guy is making chips. Their shop is obviously turning out quality work and i dont see blood spatters on the walls so they seem to be just fine doing it their way. Dont take it to heart james, i know what its like when you are under pressure, let the keyboard machinists worry about themselves. cleaning can be done after the jobs are.
That's right. We can clean up after work. I can't clean while I'm working. I'm busy with my work. But I don't blame them. They're giving me a warning. They give me a reason to work harder. Thanks for telling me. I think you're a good person. I hope you're always happy. god bless you!
I enjoyed the video and the music. If some people don't like the music, they can turn it down or off in the RUclips screen or on their device. Bunch of whiny babies. It would also be interesting to see the forging but that is probably done elsewhere.
Why use 4 supports ? (1:38 on the machine table) i always use 3, like a tripod. you are sure the whole surfaces are touching while 4 supports can be unstable.
Wow, just wow, he never once tapped the top with a machinist hammer to "set" it in the chuck. I'm both triggered and appalled. To be clear I'm just kidding, it's 4 tons!
I guess it all depends on the workpiece material, this is nothing exotic here, as per the captions .. the thermal shock from coolant can be a bad thing too... carbide doesnt like it..🤔

Right, carbon tools. I always try to make fun videos. There were people who criticized me and cursed me, and there were many people who complimented me. I respect your opinion. Your advice makes me happy. I wish you all time happy! Thank you.
I understand you're a machinist not a videographer but just so you know for future reference; don't set up the camera behind where you are going to stand, it makes it hard to see what you're working on.
@@jamespark_85machiningtv Bro your machine work is amazing and it is your channel to upload videos as you see fit. Sometimes I am a little to gruff and have 0 tact, most likely I always am too gruff :( lol. I hate watching a muted video because of music I dislike when the wonderful sounds that a shop make are right there under all that noise. I think I miss working in a shop man lol.... peace and happiness always not just during the holidays bro!
I've had several "careers" in my day, and hands down machinist was the most rewarding and fun. Absolutely loved hogging iron.

its event worst...when the supervisor finds out there is another rush job and that you have to undo your whole 6 hrs set up ....
Indeed, thanks for some vertical lathe videos - and kudos for setting up different camera shots while swinging 4+ tons through your workshop!
it is amazing how clean the chuck is, almost no dings and scratches, clean work

I so wish there was no music.
okay. next time, i will do that! thank you. your comment gives me power.
@@jamespark_85machiningtv Good choice - machining sounds are way better than music!

Very instructive and interesting video. It would be great just to be able to hear the machine and the cutting operation. Thank you for sharing this.

It’s all about speeds and feeds.
Like others have said, great video other than the music. Keep it up, looking forward to more!
I agree the music was dreadful.
Music was fine. He just has to fine tune it
Very very good job!
Why use a DTI when it is a rough surface? Need a 'Sticky pin'😉
Good video. Actually decent music too.
Fun to watch👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your channel just came up in my suggested. So glad I’m a subscriber now. Keep up the good work mate, big love from the U.K.!
Thank you! 😀
Great video
Very interesting video. Terrible music. Machine sounds would be much better,
How precise is that machine, how much runout?
Always amazes me how relatively small the Chuck jaws are relative to billet size compared to a horizontal machine
No bending moment. Vertical.
Very nice workpiece
Why use 4 supports ? (1:38 on the machine table)
i always use 3, like a tripod. you are sure the whole surfaces are touching
while 4 supports can be unstable.
The table has four grooves and four jaws. It would be unstable if three supports were used here.👍
@@jamespark_85machiningtv
ok, i understand, it wouldnt be equally spaced.
i can use three blocks because i never fix them on the table, thats why.
How much wight can this Maschine take?
good job
nice hair :D
Nice video and content, but lose the music. It is annoying!
Thanks!
Hi, thx for sharing,
there only the 4 small Jaws to hold this big thing?
i see, it works, but it looks dangeres, i says only ;-p
Of course. No problem if don't over-cut. The four jaws are very powerful.
Wow, just wow, he never once tapped the top with a machinist hammer to "set" it in the chuck.
I'm both triggered and appalled.

Yes, Appalled.😁
The music does not help
I realized that recently, too. From now on, I won't include music in the video. Thank you!
What a noise. Why do you add that to the video, which is not bad. But the noise just kills it.
I respect your opinion. I'll do better next time. Thank you for a good idea.
Did you see the operator input speed on the controller?... jeeez.
Can anyone comment on whether it's cheaper to use coolant, or just buy lots of cheap inserts? (they're like $7 now)
I guess it all depends on the workpiece material, this is nothing exotic here, as per the captions .. the thermal shock from coolant can be a bad thing too... carbide doesnt like it..🤔
👏👏👏👏👏
I would throttle someone if they tightened down components on a lathe chuck before making sure everything is clean.
It is cheaper to clean down before starting a job than repair expensive tooling.
When I am busy with my work, I sometimes postpone cleaning. I hope you don't think in a bad way, and thank you for your advice.
No cnmm insert for heavy rhoughing?
no, but CNMG is not bad.
Nice working pants you have! 😂😂😂
What ? 😕

The greatest invention since the internet? The mute button.....

Extremely interesting to watch this. Thanks. Very cool
You could turn down the music a touch. Thanks
some of the included commentary is wrong and doesn't make sense , i don't know if google translate was involved or not...... . The machining is nice .

Step 3, strategically place camera totally obscuring the action with worker's back. :)

Had to watch with the sound off. Truly dreadful and totally unnecessary music

good video but please kill the music and just use the naturel sounds
Fascinating video accompanied by unnecessary & irritating music.
What is that terrible noise? Is it the lathe? Is it a chaffcutter that's not running properly? Oh no, it seems to be something loosely called music!
Can i suggest you get some proper work boots, it's not just for your toes but ankles and achilles tendon
🤔
I could do without the stupid music, is that to make it more interesting, if I want to listen to music I can listen to the radio.
the music. It is annoying!
This could have been a great video, ruined by background noise. Too bad.

annoying music spoils a interesting video
horrible fkn headbanger music for a serious piece of machine work .... makes me think that whoever makes these parts and videos must do a lot of dope
Please cut the annoying music. You're definitely not a film producer. Just video the process and forget your artistic side.
