What a great video, definitely one of my favourites, what a busy yard in its day, over the course of the day all the multiple of locomotive classes emptied out. Loads of great drivers too, all willing to two tone it !!!. Im English from the south coast but in my spotting days id have been here practically every day watching the to and froings . Sheer heaven from the days of real English Electric power !! Nowadays they would be hauled by class 66s North American upstarts .
Great watch. Somewhere me and my dad didn't get round to visiting. Where did the 08s fetch the steal trains from, take it it wasn't too far away ? Out of interest how come the class 26s outlasted the more powerful 27s?
Hi Paul, sorry for the late reply , I’d imagine the steel came from the nearby Ravenscraig Steel Works, not very far away at all. The class 26’s outlasted the 27’s due to them being more relatable even tho it was a less powerful loco as far as I recall
The power difference was marginal, 26 was 1160hp, 27 was 1250. We used the 26s (001-007) in the east of Scotland on MGR services, slogging their guts out with 29 loaded wagons, around 1200 tons.

Great to see the class 26 action! Historic footage now!
I’m glad I recorded it certainly wish I’d done more with the 27’s from Dundee to Edinburgh , used to bash them every summer in my youth

60005 looks to be on a driver training run.
Yes newly introduced , rather strange now they’re pretty much all gone now
Did anyone else notice the person walking their dog across the railway line? It happens at 14:00 just as 37209 37285 pops up on the screen.
Yep, something I only noticed when it was uploaded, nobody gave 2 f***s back then 🥴
