      +Jessica Sebastião understandable, but I think it's just confusing because the whole purpose of the video is to give definitive pronunciations on hard-to-pronounce names. But how are we to know which way to say them if we're given conflicting pronunciations? I just think it was lazy on the part of the creators. They should have made sure the models' pronuncations were uniform and accurate.

So, the word Cupola is pronounced koo-powl-ah, and the word Chiaro is pronounced kee-aow-roh, but the word Ciao is pronounced ch-ow, and the word Città is pronounced cheat-ahh. :)

    • @trickywoo3142
      @trickywoo3142 8 лет назад +5

      +Jessica G. Exactly. Well almost. I would make 1 change tho: Since in Italian the "e" is always pronounced as "ay", I would say it's more like broo-skayt-tah. (And Italians ALWAYS pronounce both of the letters in a double consonant pairing like "tt". So that rhythmic lilt you hear is them pausing after the first t to differentiate it from the sound of the next t ;-)

    • @pattyematyfisic1
      @pattyematyfisic1 7 лет назад +5

      Tricky Woo What? 😂 "E" in italian is simply "eh"(with some variations when it comes to accents). But the sound is not even close to be "ay". Bruschetta is pronounced "Broos-keht-tah".

      The previous creative director Hedi Slimane dropped the Yves and rebranded the label as its current name Saint Laurent or Saint Laurent Paris, the YSL name and logo is only used for cosmetics and handbags/shoes. Looks like the new creative director Anthony Vaccarello has paid homage to the YSL logo on runway once again, but I don't know if Vaccarello will actually rename the brand back to Yves Saint Laurent.

    For everyone:
    Nike is always pronounced "nikey" or "nike"(like mike) . After some researches i find out that both "nikey" and "nike" pronunciations are wrong. The correct pronunciation should be "nee-keh", but the founder of the brand changed it into "nikey".
    So since the owner of the brand decided so that is how people should call it (eventho its wrong)

    • @bannyreynolds9547
      @bannyreynolds9547 5 лет назад +5

      Yass, the original word 'nike' (nee-keh) comes from the ancient greek nike=goddess of victory or more easily the noun 'victory'. Maybe you already know, but in the greek mythology there's a tale about a soldier who runs for days from the place where the last battle against the persians has been to his city, in order to announce that the greek poleis have won the war. He runs, he never stops and when he finally arrives, he can just scream three times 'nike, nike, nike', 'victory, victory, victory' before dying. Ancient greeks are such drama queens🙄😂

    These are just ways to pronounce names that don't make you sound too ridiculous when you're with fellow American people. The real pronunciations are way different.

    I feel like people need to understand that just because a name is native to our english language doesn't mean it is universally known as that pronunciation. To think that just because the name 'Alexander McQueen' is easy because we know how to pronounce it and no one else should have a problem with it is very westernized outlook on the world. There was no uproar when they pronounced japanese, italian, or fench brand names because that is not our native language, and we see that as a reason to be pronounced. There are going to be people who don't speak english fluently and see this video to understand how to pronounce Alexander McQueen because to them it is a hard name to pronounce, much like us for a japanese brand.
