This was an awesome way to have a little nostalgia trip on this cloudy day. This game is amazing. A remake or remaster would be incredible but probably will never happen. The soundtrack lives rent free in my head forever too.
I noticed that you drop bombs a lot when you jump. Is that just a thing you like to do? Or is there some kind of frame/animation thing that you benefit from?

What's with placing bombs down in certain places that don't seem to hit anything? Is it some kind of a speed boost?

Dropping a bomb in mid-air (or on a slope) helps accelerating Bomberman to max speed. It also pushes you forward a little when walking off a ledge.

I still don't get why the JP version has lower score requirements for each stage than the US version. Also the bosses all take less hits to defeat.

Correct, the US/PAL versions have tons of small changes like that, making them quite a bit harder (see link in description).

BGMに関しては１番日本と海外で評価が違い、ボンバーマンで今まで使われてなかったテクノ的な曲に違和感を覚える人が多く、日本では『爆ボンバーマン』シリーズのBGMの方が高評を得ています
