    Thank you so much!!!! I had surgery as a child, it didn't work. Honestly, I never knew, as an adult, that I could have surgery. I was always under the impression that I was just stuck with it. I lost vision in my left eye in 2012 due to the worst case scenario of intracranial hypertension. My eye only started to turn outwards in 2017/18, i’ve been receiving toxin injections since then to straighten my eye but over the past 2 years the injections stopped working. I had surgery to correct a significantly turned right eye when I was almost two years old. Although the strabismus was corrected, I have amblyopia in that eye. Indeed, the vision is so impaired in the right eye that I cannot read and cannot recognise faces using that eye. My strabismus returned about two years ago, along with age related cataracts in both eyes. My optician has referred me for a consultation to discuss correction of the turned eye (it is the right eye). The information in your video has made me decide that I will not elect to have correctional surgery, if that is offered. This is a very personal decision, based on my age, the vision loss in the turned eye, and the fact that I have other eye conditions to consider. I know for many people, surgery will have immensely positive outcomes. Thank you for being so honest and sharing your experience.

    Hey, thanks for making this video. I'm learning about the surgery in preparation for getting it done next month. My eyes aren't super misaligned (just a bit), but the doctor says this is the best option to correct my double vision, as the amount of prism needed to fix my double vision is way too much to put into my glasses lenses. I've actually been told this for years, but the doctor actually pulled me into a side office this time and told me I really needed to get this done. I thought this was only for people with crossed eyes or something, but apparently the same problem is what causes the double vision. I'm excited, but also nervous. You helped alleviate some of that. It's good to know that if my vision/look goes weird for a while, it's normal. :)

      @strabismustostereopsis7799  11 месяцев назад

    • @Spookje09
      @Spookje09 6 месяцев назад

      It sounds like I have similar issue. Its gotten to point where I've maxed out the amount of prism in my lenses, so I'm having surgery next week 6/13. Trying to explain what my vision is and isn't to someone who doesn't have this is difficult. Driving depth perception is the most worrisome. Really paying attention to stop light is also nerve-wracking. Bright sunlight is a beast. Double vision is maddening. Also, my prescription (esp in my right eye) is very strong. My right eye is basically useless. I will have a stick-on prism for that lens to negate the prism in the lens due to the correction. Im hoping I won't be out of commission for too long.
      How did your surgery go, and did it completely remedy the issues you were experiencing?

    After loss of most of my vision in my left eye - due to glaucoma - I have developed strabismus in that eye. I will have a meeting with a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic tomorrow to determine whether strabismus surgery will even work for me. If I can get improvement with it, the surgery does not worry me at all. It would be approximately my 23rd or 24th eye surgery! I have been through a lot.

      I also have glaucoma, newly diagnosed, I just had my 3rd strabismus surgery a week ago. The doctor who is dealing with the glaucoma didn’t think that a strabismus specialist would be willing to surgically correct the strabismus. He was worried about scar tissue. I have only done a SLT for the glaucoma. The strabismus doctor was not worried he stated that sometimes he might need to get creative but usually he can correct the problem. I still have good vision in both of my eyes. The eye looks straight but very red.

I took one Dilaudid tablet at the surgical center and Tylenol at home. It controlled the pain so that it was manageable. With my earlier surgeries I did experience some scratchiness kind of like dry eye. The doctor prescribed drops took care of that. I also had photophobia, sunglasses were my best friend for a while. I am still getting some double vision. But I have had that each time. It has worked itself out each time.

    I had a surgery to correct my strabismus about 11 years ago and it didn't go well. They said that I needed to have prescription glasses after the surgery to help with the correction. I had the insurance to get the surgery but not the insurance to get the glasses and I went to about a dozen different places to see if they would take my insurance & they would not. I was broke and couldn't afford the glasses on my own. The doctor wanted to do the surgery anyway and I didn't know how long it would take to get to get the insurance/money for the glasses, if I was able to get the insurance/money at all. The hospital where I had the surgery is a _`teaching hospital`;_ so, every patient was a guinea pig. So, hoping that I would just not need them, I decided to get the surgery anyway.
    And I still have it. It didn't fix my eyes at all. That is a scumbag hospital and a scumbag doctor! Medical malpractice, in my opinion.

      Have you looked into vision therapy at all, that might be a better first step since your was adult onset. Find an office here strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ My recovery was about one week to get back to feeling well enough to function normal, but about 3-4 weeks to feel like my vision was stabilized.
