After a lot of investigation and weighing up pros and cons I bought the Mevo+ with Pro Package and Face Impact during the November sale. I wanted a unit that I could use indoors and at the range. Practice and 'self coaching' was much more important to me than playing simulated courses. The final deciding factor was subscriptions and the Mevo+ being a one and done purchase. I love it, setting up is easier than some had said; max 5 minutes. The amount of information it provides is mind blowing. I've used GC3 in the past and the Mevo+ gives me more.
Thanks for this info. I've been almost convinced that I want the Mevo plus, but this has helped my decision.
@@printerschamp Only real downside I see is that it is difficult to setup putting and very short chip shots to work consistently. So it is maybe not the best for playing SimGolf. I always have auto putt on.
@@chrislewis7I don’t have one still trying to decide, but putting with any of these devices and sims doesn’t seem worth it to me. Not sure you really learn more about putting like you can your full swing.
@@Steve-qn8gn I don’t think putting on any device like this is very useful. Only really used if you want to play competitive sim golf. For my purposes auto-putt is fine. I had 10 e6 courses included when I bought it and they play well. As I said above the Flightscope bundled software is great for practice and analysis. I recommend adding the pro package. Face impact is good but not totally necessary.
Golf Tec uses Skytrak + in all their teaching centers now. Granted, they now own Skytrak but having used it in a lesson environment, it's fantastic so much that I bought one.
Mevo+ is great the no annual fees , the amount of features such as face impact location, speed and acceleration profile the multicam , the unit is on another level
Great review Mark! These are the two LMs that I’ve been considering for months. I’ve owned a regular Mevo and used a Garmin R10. Great units for the price, small and portable, but I want something with more and better data. In particular, I want club face angle and club path. I’m moving toward the ST+ because of space and ease of setup. What I find interesting is that the ST+ (supposedly) uses its dual Doppler radar for club data, and the camera system collects the ball data. That’s almost opposite the Mevo+. Decisions! Either way I go I’ll use your code - thanks!
I just bought the Mevo +. I probably would have went with the SkyTrak, but I have a lefty in my house so that left me with only a couple of options. Luckily, space is not a concern with my sim set up.
Hi, does the club data work okay for lefty and righty alternating shots? My wife and I are opposite handed.
@@peterring1979 I haven't received it yet so I cannot confirm. Theoretically it should as long as you are teeing off from the same spot in front of the monitor. At least I hope that is the case, as that was the deciding factor why I went with the Mevo +.
@@Kawboy65thanks for replying. Thinking about it a good way this could be managed is for each player to have a profile which includes their handedness. So the system would know what to do whoever is hitting. Best of luck with your new kit.
Failed to mention.. Mevo plus no yearly fees for data. One and done. Skytrack plus is ongoing and could raise yearly fees when ever they want
Ive had a mevo+ for 2 years. And have bought a skytrak+, purely for the indoor use. The mevo does some strange things regarding gear effect in my experience.
will still use it outdoor on the range, the rangeball mode is actually pretty good at getting the numbers to line up with a regular ball.
I use the old Skypro device connected to the original SkyTrak. Much cheaper than 3G’s for the plus but I still might get it some day. The Skypro is good for myself, teaching the grandkids and son in law so…
Just ordered my SkyTrak+ this morning, thanks for the code!! By the way, what hitting turf are you using in your videos Mark?
I have had both. Skytrak wins for me. Mevo plus has issues indoors with driver distance. Mine would be 40 to 50 yards off.
thanks Mark, great information, just a thought if you had multi hand users left/ right/ mevo would be better also
Really good video mark I have a mevo plus which if set up properly and you have the space is a great unit I’m nearly 60 now the youngsters today are so lucky today to have launch monitors they are brilliant fun you can play all the best courses in the world on the sim. I’ve got gspro which paired up with flightscope is brilliant
Be interesting to see you review the GolfZon Wave.
Great compare breakdown Mark!
Thanks Mark. Great timing as I like both of these. Question for everyone: my wife is a lefty, I am a righty. I think mevo must be best for us as it is behind. But how does it manage the club data if we alternate shots?
Skytrak will need moving but Mevo plus could be fixed if you have enough room either side of one ball hitting spot. 👍
@@MarkCrossfield With a lefty included, is it as simple as moving the Skytrak+ before and after the lefty's time to hit their shot? The video you shot of the GolfTec use seemed to show a LOT of potential for virtual lessons with the SkyTrak+. Thanks for your videos!
Mevo Plus has speed training function and the fs skills app sky track doesn’t have the speed training capability.
Mevo Plus also comes with 6 FREE e6 courses NO annual subscription with Mevo plus where there is with sky track so in the long run it’s going to cost more to have a sky track. Mevo plus also gives way more information standard deviation and shaft speed and acceleration profiles.
2 great reviews of both products I just wanted to add this to help people make the decision.
10 free e6 courses if you buy the new 2023 version.
@@chrislewis7 12 courses now on the 2024 version.
Hi Mark, can you compare these units to the Uneekor mini Lite for data accuracy to be used in a home simulator.
People also forget about the right and left handed aspect of you have one of each in your friend group or household the mevo accommodates that while skytrack needs to be moved every time
Hi Mark thanks for taking the time to review, one thing I would like to know please. How accurate are these at picking up fades/ slices, draws/ hooks can they pick them up and are the numbers realistic, is one better than the other. Cheers
They measure shot shape. They are both very similar for accuracy. 👍
Hi Mark thanks for replying.
I am not sure yet which one to get, swaying towards ST. Something else to throw in the mix now is are any of them compatible with GSPRO? Just seen you can play the Masters course on that sim which is absolutely mega. Do you know if any are compatible? Cheers
Mevo plus limited edition.
Thanks cheers for the info
This is the exact video I was looking for and confirmed what I was leaning towards in the skytrak+. The hardest thing is which offers better course options to play and at what price point. Did you find it necessary to use face stickers or rtc balls with either machine?
I got tgc 2019 life time you still pay a play & improve £100 per year to Skytrak but that all
I find the 10 free e6 courses on Mevo+ enough for me. If I wanted more courses and would be playing them regularly I go for GSPro at an extra $250 a year. Mevo+ indoors a single metal sticker on the ball or RCT balls to get accurate spin numbers.
Both units will work with most of the main sim softwares i.e. GSPro, TGC2019, e6, Awesome Golf, etc. Most of those have their own pricing structure irrespective of which LM you are using. If you want 'free' courses then you won't get much with either unit.
Based on research, I'm getting a Mevo+ because I can go one and done pay and have 12 E6 courses, and then pay later for TGC 2019 or a subscription software later if I do truly get tired of playing those 12 courses (which include some bangers, St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, Bay Hill, and other great courses) and using it for basic practice. Then again, maybe at that point I'm looking to upgrade the hardware to GCQ or a Trackman or something.
Rapsodo MLM 2 Pro ?
Hi Mark, Have you had the opportunity to review the Ernest Sports Tour Plus 2.0. It's similar to the SkiTrak Plus. It's in the same price range and has just been upgraded.
I think the biggest problem for Skytrak+ is that much of the additional package features are annual subscriptions rather than a one off fee and Mevo+ is more of an one off fee. Probably best to do a total cost of ownership over 8-10 years between Mevo+ with pro package and ST+ (and with similar courses). I have a suspicion that ST+ will turn out to be noticeably more expensive - and that is before you factor in risk of annual subscriptions increasing in price over time versus a one off fee.
The other issue which would be relevant for me is how accurate is the club path and face to path data from both (assuming Mevo+ has pro package). From other reviews the Mevo+ seems close to professional levels whereas the ST+ is a bit more variable. Of course over time ST+ may get software updates which improve that.
If you have the room and are using it for home simulator use, especially with friends, I would definitely edge towards the Mevo+ with Pro package. As Mark says the set up can be more fiddly but most of that will be a one off experience and then you leave it - plus no need to change anything if your friend is a lefty. And you get some benefit of it being easier to use outdoors
I ended up with the Skytrak+. Space. But wish there was a one and done options for add ons. I’m tired of subscriptions in general. I just use it at home.
@davegenet if you use a pc, you can get gspro, then you don't need any of the skytrak subscriptions, there are videos on here about how to set it up and use it on the skytrak+.
@@damiensmith8351thanks. I use my iPad but I could get a cheap pc. I mainly like to practice and warm up with my setup and play in the real world.
@@damiensmith8351no putting though…
Great video! I’ve been watching your channel for many years. Use your opinion on many golf purchases. I’m about to retire and have always wanted a home simulator. Skytrak and mevo have come down to final 2 in my budget. Problem is I’m left handed and my closest golf buddies are all right handed. Is the skytrak difficult to move from right to left hand side. I’ve read the mevo can sit behind either hand golfer…correct?
Correct, left and right can play without moving the device.
You could move the Skytrak+ around but it would get tedious.
Skytrak has yearly fees, Mevo+ doesn't. If you have lefty friends visiting the simulator, Mevo+ all day. Space limitations, Skytrak. Really just a needs based choice.
Am I missing something here in terms of pricing? You said that skytrak + wins if you are keeping your sim indoor only. A Skytrak+ will cost you 3k, you would then need to buy a software package of your choice and you would need to buy the skytrak subscrition package too. (you can obviously go down the GSpro route but its not officially supported) If you were only using the device for an indoor simulator only then surely you could just purchase the New 2023 Mevo + on its own (currently on sale for £1,795) and you get 10 free E6 courses for life. Not to mention you could also purchase GSPro which is supported. This is substantially cheaper than the skytrak. Making the Mevo a clear winner for indoor sim use.... if you have the space surely??
How does the Rapsodo mlm2pro sit against mevo+
Given the nature of range balls, which launch monitor--all of them, not just these two--would be best for use at the range?
None really. The trick there is to understand the balls. I used reduced flight balls for years and learnt the conversion. 👍
@@MarkCrossfield My range uses Trackman and it has a "convert" feature that gives a more realistic reading of distance and speed, accounting for the range balls. Before they installed it, I did the same mental math using my Swing Caddie SC300i.
Liked the video Mark
Im about to build my own "man cave" :-) and of cause it has to contain a home sim ! But as im a lefty and my mates are righties, would that rule out the SkyTrak ? or has anyone thought up some brilliant solution for that scenario ?
One point on reviews I hardly ever see… how FRUSTRATING all these side monitors are with groups of friends and one is lefty.. that is were back setup shines….. I guess you reviewers forget about that part.
I would like one that you sit opposite the ball, not behind, for inside use. Now cost is another story! Thanks Mark
One point that sent me to the Mevo+ is the integrated compatibility with the stack system. I'm lazy, and I don't want to manually put in my speed numbers :)
Great Review Mark. Really respect your opinions. The biggest thing for me is that Skytrak+ needs to be moved back and forth to support Lefty and Righty golfers. I also have limited space so its a clear win over Mevo in that department. Tough decision.
Subscription fees ?
If you have limited space, the skytrak is better for you mate. As long as your ground is level, you can swap the skytrak instantly, where as with the mevo, you need enough "space" for a left and right hander to swing from a middle pivot point. Which is actually more.
@@damiensmith8351 thanks bud. That's the way I'm leaning as well
I have the mevo plus.....althought its a great unit the setup is awful and space needed i should have thought it out better....trying to sell it at this point....i need a camera based system
Good luck selling it if it isn't a 2023 version, I was looking at selling mine as I bought a skytrak+ a couple months ago. People think it's worth
£1400 and that's with the pro package and face impact. Which are 1k on their own. Will be my take to the range one, as it's spot on for that imo.
My only nitpick with this video is the part about the Mevo+ and range balls. It was presented as a "problem" specific to the Mevo+ but using literally any launch monitor at the driving range, including the SkyTrack, would have the same issue. Since the Mevo+ is also usable at home just like the SkyTrack, this shouldn't have been presented as an issue specific to the unit.
This is a fair point.
Hi Mark here's a question for you why are launch monitors so expensive? Let's put it into context the gc3 has 3 cameras, a top end camera is 5-£900 and a pc is £800-£1500 pounds and let's face it a launch monitor has a pcb! Not a pc!
Admittedly there are production and development costs but the technology is not new any more! The GC quad has an extra camera but I doubt the internal hardware is much different just extra different software so how do they justify the £8500 - £17,000 pound price tag?
I feel it's being kept artificially high and am not sure why they don't want to cater for the mass market, the numbers obviously add up in favour of their current market place strategy, but the hardware and technology should not cost what they're charging. Maybe I'm wrong tell me and the rest of your subscribers what you think.
Neil
These are all good points. I guess you do miss out the obvs marketing model. A Gucci handbag doesn’t. Cost 3k to make.
To be fair I haven’t really looked into it. But you make fair points.
This whole market is becoming way more open and I think all will benefit over time.
I suppose foresight already tried to compete with the mass market with their gc3 but how does this compare with the skytrak and flightscope certainly more expensive but offers similar data to skytrak. I suppose it would have looked even more ridiculous if the gc3 was £3000 compared to gc4 £17000 that would be a very expensive extra camera and software difference.
@@neilbelcher3577 gc3 is better in different situations. If you want indoor SkyTrak is so hard to beat at the price.
I agree but at the end of the day it’s a small plastic box with several cameras and a printed circuit board with a processor with less computing power than your mobile phone!
It’s a matter of time before their inflated bubble bursts
@@neilbelcher3577 which would be great for the average consumer
If you have left and right handed users on the same device then SkyTrak is going to be a problem whereas Mevo+ would resolve this situation easily. Other than that space behind and in front of the strike area is the only other issue. SkyTrak needs minimal space around the strike area (just enough to swing the club) whereas Mevo+ needs maybe 3 yards behind and 2 yards after to have enough ball flight time to produce the measurements. So just as you say - SkyTrak in restricted home space, Mevo+ where space is not an issue. For all other domestic and game usage the two devices are matching parameter for parameter.
Hi Ian. Just saw your comment. Do you know how Mevo shows the club data if a righty and lefty alternate shots? Cheers.
@@peterring1979 Sorry I cannot help there. My comment was based on the fact that the Mevo(+) has a central position behind the ball so does not need any modification for left or right hand players..
However, from what I have read, the add on package for club monitoring uses the camera of the Mevo+ so maybe the software of the add-on can resolve that. Sorry I cannot give you a definite response. I use a SkyTrak launch monitor and have to put up with restricted club head data based on calculations from ball flight.
Mevo plus vs MLM 2 pro? Both are more for home and range type use imo...
Mevo+ --> no annual subscriiption. Skytrak+ - subsccription based if you really want to utilize features. Mevo+ --> compatible w/ GS Pro. Skytrak+ --> NOT currenlty compatible w/ GS Pro, a 3rd party integration, which many will say is much better than E6 software.
Mevo+ is a great device.
Great review, @@MarkCrossfield. Just adding that wrinkle in there regarding GS Pro (which is a subscription service)
Skytrak+ is the answer. Its own range software is great, & it also works with E6, & it requires less physical space & ball travel.
No mention of compatible sim software?
You mixed up the product names there "Skytrak Mevo Plus is almost a professional device". Which one did you mean there?
The one area where the Mevo Plus blows the doors off the Skytrak Plus is software compatibility. Skytrak doesn't work with awesome golf or gs pro as far as I've been able to find out.
Good points.
Skytrak works with gspro. And you don't need any of the skytrak subscriptions to use it.
@@damiensmith8351 I've been looking but I didn't see it anywhere that it's supported
@@damiensmith8351 great advice
@@damiensmith8351 got it, no official support, needs a connector. Thanks
Also can’t see the point taking the device to the range given the variability of the range balls sqiffs the numbers and many ranges have some form of Trackman or tracking system. No too many people get the opportunity to hit their gamer ball on a range.
that really affects ball parameters though: spin and carry are going to differ because they aren't your usual balls. Mevo+ gives you club path, face angle, face impact, d-plane, spin axis ---- all great for analysis even if you are hitting range rocks. Plus you it has a way to designate range balls so you can separate that out later if you hit a session with actual balls.
I'm going with "driving range." The ONLY place to practice, improve, and create a solid golf swing. Throw a few lessons in, and you're set. Indoor simulator practice does not transfer when playing on natural turf in natural conditions. Having said that, I'm addicted to my own simulator. I need some serious intervention!
Most driving ranges don't offer natural turf options either, and require you to hit from a ... mat.
