It's basically a sheet of glue and both sides are equally fusible so it' doesn't matter which side it stays to! On the instructions from the manufacturer that comes with the product, you will steam your final project from the BACK of your final design so it gets the the glue faster!
Steam a seam 2 is just way too expensive. The Nola pattern recommends 8 to 10 yards, several people I have talked to have ended up using 12 yards. The box with 25 yards of steam a seam 2 is around 245 dollars. So I have had to teach myself other alternatives. By the yard it is about 12.00 a yard. The price after patterns, batting, backing, pattern ease, actual quilt fabrics, and steam a seam 2 is outrageous. Sorry. But many of us out here right now would have to totally give up collage and art quilting if we did not use alternatives.
Great tips!
How hot is the iron when you press the material on the steamaseam 2
I just have it on hot cotton setting from @oliso irons. My guess is it’s at least 320? Sometimes we also use a commercial heat press.
Do you steam the fabric side or the grid side once you cover up all the sticky side with fabric

It’s okay to use alternatives! It is art after all. Anything is possible. The most important thing is to create!
