The army life doesn’t look bad tbh I’m afraid of army ROTC and my job being just to much you know I got cold feet about it but you make it seem a lot easier then from what I see on reddit
So far I have no real complaints honestly. As far as staying past my contract I’m not sure, I’ll have to answer that question at a later date because I don’t know just yet.
Old timey rule from the 1800s states that the Goverment shall furnish all food, clothing, and shelter to enlisted men. Officers of the time were expected to support themselves, have their own horses, and be wealthier gentlemen. " An officer and a gentleman". Somehow it's never changed, over the years. Probably because officers generally more and Uncle Sam knows how to squeeze a penny.
You can always try to switch if you’re a reserve Officer. Especially now with everything that’s going on. A MILPER message came out about a “Call to Active Duty” allowing those in the reserve component to transfer.
Im doing rotc, I go to leadership training this next summer and swear in that fall as well. How does the officer mos work? Will they give me the job i want? I wouldn't mind s korea.
I will say good luck and an early congrats as well. When it comes to AOC’s for officers (Areas of concentration) not MOS, your job is determined by what you’ve done during your time in ROTC. So for example you get “OML points” for having a high GPA, good ACFT scores, extra curricular activities and your ranking during Advanced camp. If you have enough points then you will get your 1st branch choice and duty assignment choice. If you’re on the lower end you may get 2nd or third and in the worst case scenario you’ll get cornered in the needs of the Army category. If Korea is what you want then put it as your 1st. There’s high a chance you’ll definitely get it due to the fact the Army needs volunteers to go over there since it’s a high turnover and the assignments are only for 1 year. Hope this helps.

I won’t star the worst LT’s, but if you aren’t producing then you’ll find yourself in a staff position. Now just because you’re in staff doesn’t mean you’re not good but if you’re not good you won’t be in a PL slot.
