  • Day in the Life of an Army Officer
    Thought I'd give you an insight into what a day in the Infantry may look like (yes this is one of the more interesting days but it still occurs relatively regularly!)
    This day looked like this:
    0700 Breakfast
    0800 PT
    1030 Rifle / Pistol Range
    1230 Lunch
    1330 Sharpshooter Range
    1700 Gym
    1830 Dinner
    Hope you enjoy the video. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

    I served on that garrison during darker times, for 3 years in an infantry unit in the 90's. The Royal Green Jackets. Really good to see the Army has moved on and is doing good work. Back then it was a mess. Thanks for taking the time in putting this together.

    Im interested to see what a boring day is like, as someone who is in the process of joining as an officer I would like too see and know what admin would look like, what would meetings entail and generally all of the managerial non soldiering bits of being an army officer.

      I was just about to comment the same until I saw yours, I'm also in the process of joining and its all well and good seeing the fun gucci stuff, but I would really like to know what happens most days, I understand Dan probably can't film in a meeting and stuff at a computer may be boring but I'd like to at least hear about what's done on an average day when not on Ex, Ops or training.

    A day in the life of an officer! Interesting, I was expecting to much to think there might be a map reading session in there :) Good job he has GPS on his phone otherwise he would have never found his way back after breakfast! Joking aside this is a great video, we have one of best and most admired Armies in the world yet they are criminally under funded. With what is happening EAST it should be a reminder to people how precious our arm forces are, and how important it is to fund them adequately. Perhaps we could even stretch to fund map reading courses for the officers...

    You picked a good day in Cyprus ... as an officer ... I might have left the service more than two decades ago and I am not sure if this is what is appealing to the new batch, however to me this is really not appealing, I'd rather have me balls frozen off in Norway for cold training, dry out to a crisps at some god forsaken African country for desert adjustment or rot from the feet up in a Jungle exercise. If there is anyone potentially joining the armed forces, don't be alarmed, there is plenty of opportunity to volunteer for more varied training, even (actually more especially) in the UK. If this is what was shown doesn't appeal to you, I'd encourage you not to despair because outside of a couple mandatory sessions, most of what you get out of the service is what you put in it yourself and sign up for the various opportunities. Just be aware that you get trained for a reason, you skill up for a reason, at some point you will be ask to put those investments to use.

    I loved my time in. Served 3 different times. Jnr Ldr, Regulars. T.A. Now 50 yr old disabled British Army Veteran.
    It's a totally different military to my time. Joint in late 80s with the 7.62 SLR (target will drop when hit lol). Then SA80 L1A1 5.56. Then the L2A2 with the niggles from the A1 sorted. How us the A3 with all the sluderail gubbins on. Although many things have changed. Some things are still the same. The RSM will always be God lol.
    I think it's very important to train. Even a sharp blade needs resharpening. Plus in a working unit range days and all training is all ranks in the Sqn involved from OC to newly arrived 2LTs & Pte's from trade training. So first time in a working unit. The experience is mixed. But great mentors help the new along. Then oneday they pass on to the next generation. So yes of course we did it different, but we did it different from those before us, and we felt upto date. So now we are part of the old veterans Civ Div lol. So your now the upto date. Oneday you'll sit here and say the same lol. However all in good banter, and we respect things change for the better or sometimes worst. It is what it is. You do what you do sir. Your a switched on Troopy, so I'd have been honoured to have been in your Troop (sorry your Platoon, Company, Battalion). I was Corps so Troop and Sqn then Regt.
    It's good to see the military do its thing. I have nothing but respect for all you younger warriors. 20yrs in conflicts some of you have experience of. Every generation of British Warrior has always had battle hardened instructors. Mine were Falklands Vets. You just didn't feck around with these guys.

    I’ve seen a lot of training of new recruits, but this sort of regular day to day training seems a bit less angry and shouty. How do instructors strike the balance between teaching and military encouragement?

    • @djrxp
      @djrxp  2 года назад +2

      Hi Peter. So I think that a good instructor can turn it on / off, and also understands when a more aggressive posture is needed. A day on the range probably isn't the place for it. We're trying to teach, coach, and improve marksmanship. There's no point rushing the lads and putting them under unnecessary pressure - they get that when they are in the field on exercise.
      Also, in this video, they aren't recruits. And no one wants to be shouted at 24/7. I like the fact that in my Battalion there is a relaxed atmosphere and relationship between everyone, but we can switch the aggression on when needed

    2. Why from less than 15m are you using the actual sight instead of red dot reflex ?

      @djrxp  2 года назад +4

      Call me immature but your username on here gets me every time 😂 I'll do my best to answer them.
      1. It was relaxed posture on the range, hence no PPE. Purely just practicing drills and taking their time to do it
      2. I'm not sure if it was less than 15m and what particular point in the video you are on about, but hey, I may be wrong
      3. Fair question and one I've had many times. I don't think you need PPE on every single range just because you wear it on tour - you've got PDT for that and all the other mandatory ranges / exercises where you wear it. I'll liken it to a sports team (different I know but the point stands), they won't wear all the correct gear in every training session.

    Every army has a agenda to role play for there country but here we have not realize what our miltary team is working for & doesn't have own national interest purposes of life & no mentally improvements to succeed just for business stage not for a soldier value. It's all as a chess game ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Lemme guess? You all are still pissed at the U.S. military for fighting against the British military in America’s fight and eventuall victory after general Cornwallis surrender of the British army at Yorktown to former British soldier, colonel in the French and Indian war, George Washington?
