I got an MD after 11 years & found the civvie transition to be difficult, as that wasn’t what I wanted. As you said, the army gives you a “can do” attitude. Having been a team player, the thing I found really difficult to deal with as a civvie was the often encountered “minimum effort to get by” approach from many colleagues, that seem happy to let others take the strain on their behalf. I needed a change, so moved to Florida with my wife & daughter to buy a business. We’re still here 16 years later, & life is pretty good. Good luck with your future, I’m sure you’ll do well.
Good luck on leaving. I left after 23 years in 2014 having served in RAPTC. Was apprehensive after so long too leave but enjoy it now. Run my own gym in Germany where i settled.
Just watched this and there's an awful lot parallels between your path and the one I took. I used all of my "youth" from 17 to 24 and made the same decision to leave as I'd lost the passion for the role despite being born and bread in green. It was touch and go in the first 18 months where my own mental resilience was tested to the limit. Now - 20 years on (left in 02) things are peachy. Happy to discuss and advise.
A very mature decision I'm sure was hard to make, just having been an officer on your CV is an awesome thing to have, and like you I certainly loved it!

Guys like this are absolutely no good for the army at all. His training probably cost the MOD more than he was ever worth. Now that he's actually valuable to the British Army, he's jumping ship. He's an opportunist who used the training and education to better himself and then ran away. I think anyone seeking to be an officer should have to sign a ten-year contract before going to Sandhurst. What will he do now? Go back to the gym or return to sales? What an idiot.
I'd have preferred an officer who'd served as a soldier or wasn't a uni buff. Every uni buff I had was a complete tool, all the other officers I had were like actual lads and I wanted to help and eventually work for. The uni buffs not once thought the soldiers could teach them anything which ended in them not being liked.
Hey mate, now that you are leaving the Army have you considered trying to branch out and contact other influencers? Granted a difficult but huge audience would be Joe Rogan. You have real world, recent experience that could be interesting on his podcast and you wouldn’t be tied to the various rules and regulations of the Army
Basically what happened was you were not good enough to become a company commander and you decided to quit and seek a career outside of the army rather than become a 50 year old silver haired captain in charge of a toilet paper resupply centre in some forlorn base up north. You should have realised in advance that you can be a complete dunce but if you come from the right family background you can make major general by the time you are 50 years old, the army is still the place for the privileged classes & not for the peasants.
Yeah go on then Gary, I’ll bite. 1. I’ve served more than the minimum. 2. I’ve given an insight into my life in the Infantry, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and am proud to have done. If that promotes it then so be it
@@djrxp Gary, just a little thought for you mate. Just because someone signs the dotted line, doesn't then mean they have to commit 22 years service. I'm still serving in the infantry and have been in for 18 years now, but I know many people that served the minimum and then move onto bigger better things. Why not use the military as a stepping stone. Just because Dan served 6 years and is leaving, doesn't automatically mean that he hates the Army and shouldn't promote it. You do realise by making a comment like that, you're portraying someone who hasn't had the best of time in the military. All the best Gary :)

Just because you can't achieve something doesn't mean others aren't able to.
@@JammyDodger45 any way you can prove that?
@@JammyDodger45 he’s achieved so much, he feels the need to mention it to strangers on the internet…
Why you running with a cap backwards
Oh damn, someone must’ve sneaked up and put it on that way
Become a world leader save all humanity will feel peace but these one sided job puts a person in one corner becoming narrow minded small hearted doesn't allow to go against evil & can't protect your own citizens forgetting about the creator who is owner of whole mankind not knowing what's the reality way of life
Okay
My aim is british gurkha army.🇳🇵🇬🇧❤
Good luck!

If you’d stayed in and became a Coy Comd you’ll have a bigger train set to play with
Very true, but I’m not interested if I’m honest. I wanted to be a platoon commander and have done it. Now looking forward to different opportunities
Youll never be a Civi now, youll be a Vet, I did 12 years and you can usually tell a Vet a mile away just by the way they stand tall...Have fun
Haha I can imagine! Definitely very proud to have served. Thanks mate
Can get you a job mate. Telecoms world. Full training provided. 4 day week.
Appreciate the offer mate, I’ve got a few things I’ll look into but certainly not ruling anything out
@@djrxp No dramas 👍
Something smells here Dan, someone crossed you? Captain in less than 4 years!! World at your feet. 🙊
Many end up on the street.
Iv got a MD this coming October after 14years in, lord help me . I guess I either join Onlyfans, the Ukrainian legion... or Scientology.
Nice nice
Guys like this are absolutely no good for the army at all. His training probably cost the MOD more than he was ever worth. Now that he's actually valuable to the British Army, he's jumping ship. He's an opportunist who used the training and education to better himself and then ran away. I think anyone seeking to be an officer should have to sign a ten-year contract before going to Sandhurst. What will he do now? Go back to the gym or return to sales? What an idiot.
Why I have love you and joining to meet you and you are leaving
Definitely don’t join to meet me mate 😂 join because you want to do the job!
First thing first... How old are you?? Second.... Are you married?? All the best in your new life adventure!
28, not married 😂 thanks man appreciate it
Hey mate, now that you are leaving the Army have you considered trying to branch out and contact other influencers? Granted a difficult but huge audience would be Joe Rogan. You have real world, recent experience that could be interesting on his podcast and you wouldn’t be tied to the various rules and regulations of the Army
Joe Rogan may be a bit out of my reach haha! But I appreciate the sentiment, and am definitely keen to meet people that have paved their own path
Great to see you sever your minimum amount of time.. yet you try promote and plug the military for people to join
Yeah go on then Gary, I’ll bite.
1. I’ve served more than the minimum.
2. I’ve given an insight into my life in the Infantry, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and am proud to have done. If that promotes it then so be it
@@djrxp guess you didn’t take the major job / OC job that was offered during the RCMO interview

👌
Why do you always lean in to the camera? It doesn’t help with that huge beak of yours too , don’t release anything in 3D.
😂😂😂😂 I do it just for you mate 😘
You will regret leaving. Maybe not straight away but you will at some point..
