  • I love watching ANIME! especially where theres a series that involves some medicine or medical science.
What better anime to watch than Dr. STONE!!!!!
In this video I watch and react the DR. STONE anime episode where he makes glasses and I explain the medicine science behind his madness. Does his science really stack up to what we do today as Doctors?
So if you want to find out whether he can solve Suika's fuzzy eye disease with a combination of things you can find in the outdoors, then this is for you.

The moment where Suika is finally able to see properly ALWAYS makes me cry! As someone who's needed glasses since 3rd grade, and has constantly had to get different prescriptions since, honestly made me realize just how much we take something so easy to aquire like glasses for granted. I can relate, when I was in sixth grade, I didn't have my glasses for half the school year, so you can imagine how much of a pain in the ass I was having at that time. Whenever we were writing on our notebooks, I literally have to constantly get my ass off my chair to stand in front of the board and then read what's written in it and then go back to my seat to write it down and repeat the process all over again until I'm finished. You can imagine how slow this was lol
And yeah, my classmates were pretty annoyed, but c'mon, you can't just expect me not to do anything about it lol.
Also, the funny thing is, when I finally got new glasses, my performance in school got a LOT better (as expected), and this shocked some of my classmates. Apparently they just assumed that I'm retarded and that the glasses just made me smarter lol.
Let me explain why this is, when I didn't have my glasses, whenever the teacher was discussing something and writing stuff on the board, I can't see what she's writing, which made some of the things she's explaining make absolutely no sense to me, which really affected my grade. It also made some of my classmates think that I'm dumb, which is why they were all so surprised when my performance in school got better as soon as I got my glasses lol.

@@noimsquidward7327 Similar thing happened to me when I stupidly chose to get contacts instead of glasses only to have a brand new allergy appear that made the contacts extremely uncomfortable, and insurance wouldn't pay for another vision correcting device that year so I had to go a whole year without being able to see things more than ten feet away properly. I managed to get through without my grades suffering to any noticeable degree because I can write very quickly and thus could usually finish copying stuff down before the screen or board changed even with having to get up and move closer to the board, or by going entirely off of what the teacher said rather than actually reading the board at all. Before covid hit I'd occasionally forget to put my glasses on and not realize it until it was too late to walk/run back to the dorm hall (I'm in college now) to get them and still make it to class. And man let me tell you, I might've been able to manage going glassesless a whole year in jr high, but not anymore. More often than not I'd hardly get any coherant notes without my glasses in college classes.
As to why I could fail to notice that I wasn't wearing glasses in the first place, I blame the fact that I usually don't wear them when I don't need to see anything farther than 10 feet away with perfect clarity (such as doing homework in my room, going to the grocery store, or eating at a restaurant where I already know what I'm getting or I know has hand-held menus) so it's not something that's a super hardwired reflex. As for why I don't bother wearing them in those situations, that's due to the fact that I have chronic migraine, so it can be very unpleasant to have something rest on my nose and cheekbones for a prolonged period of time depending on whether my trigeminal nerve and brain feel like rebelling against me or not.

This scene made me realize how little I knew about so many things and I am pretty sure that will inspire a lot of new scientists for our future.

Benjamin Franklin, famous American founding father, used glasses in older age. He liked fooling around in his science lab/workshop and improving objects and machines. He even improved the refraction angle of his glasses.

That was a beautiful scene with Suika and the sunflowers. I haven't read the Dr. Stone manga and I'm trying to resist given the new season coming, but this show surprised me with how funny and moving it is. However, it doesn't surprise me that the writer/artist of the manga - his name is Boichi - knows his science and research. Another work of his, called Origin, deals with robots and robotics and there's no doubt that he's a very clever writer and an excellent storyteller (qualities that are severely lacking in western entertainment nowadays).

Just discovered your channel from this video. Very well made. Dr Stone is an amazing anime, among my favorites, so I’m glad to see more videos on it. I’ve seen your top anime doctors video so I know you are very familiar with anime. So I’m sure you’re already aware of Cells at Work being another medicine based anime you could potentially bring here. In fact Cells at Work Black (a spin-off that focuses on pathology of chronic adult conditions) is coming out in January. I’m looking forward to watching that & Dr Stone season 2 in January.
Only other medicine based anime I’m aware of is Comical Psychosomatic Medicine (although I will say the anime is subpar & comedy is a bit more adult. So I can’t fully recommend it for a reaction but maybe a watch)

i've actually got an eye dysfunction called a "coloboma", it's pretty rare so most don't know it exists or is even possible, but it's caused while a baby isn't even born, the nerves that should be connecting to the eyes were never made and it causes a reduction in vision (my right eye can only see for about 33% for example) and it can cause the pupil to be in odd places (my right pupil is always bigger so it can catch more light, and it is at the bottom of my iris instead of in the middle) and it's actually currently impossible to be fixed in any way. (it's from birth so it doesn't bother much)
    thought that'd be interesting

Well, that explains a lot. I've always been an avid reader, going through a couple of books a week even when I was still just a young child. By the time I reached my early teens, I could devour multiple books a _day,_ if I didn't have anything else to do and all the time to read. I've also needed glasses almost as far back as I can remember.
Well, until I got my eyes fixed through LASIK anyway. I don't think Senku will be getting up to that anytime soon though.

Dr. Stone has a lot of science and a lot of heart.
The ending to this episode really hit me. I can remember quite clearly how happy I was when - thanks to glasses - I could see individual leaves on a tree for the first time instead of just a blurry, bubbly mess.

I appreciate the vid and liked to watch it. Thank you for the upload.
I have one small suggestion though. The sound of the outtakes is much louder than your voice which resulted in addjusting the volume manually as the video played. I hope you can addjust in future videos either your own recordings to be at the same volume as the clips or the other way around. Either way, the video is worth watching and I enjoyed it very much.
But I still wonder, how Senku polished the glass without leaving scratches or marks on the lense. Nowadays there are tools and materials for polishing. But can you do it with something like a rock or stone? What Material would be actually capable of polishing the glass so precise in a "stoneage"?`

To be honest I was dreading watching the video cause I thought it would be another one of those videos where someone whos profession is the same as whatever the anime is about, is just going to botcher the anime by talking about how unrealistic it is and how ridiculous it is.

To be fair, Senku is anything but normal. He is a prodigy with an edeitic memory... not only are prodigies rare but prodigies with edeitic memories are even rarer. In real life people like Senku only appear every few ages. Historically, it is fair to say that there were many who had the genetic qualities of being prodigies and eidetic memories but social and class status affected their ability to develop those talents. The most common prodigies in history were military strategists followed by more scientific counterparts followinf the dark ages. For now I don't think an Eidetic Prodigy has been born and arisen to enjoin the sciences.

I feel for the kid in this one, I can see anything without my glasses, my vision is pretty much the same as hers. When I take them off my world becomes so fuzzy. Lol funny thing is I didn't realize that my eyes were so bad until I reached college. All my college friends told me i needed glasses, but I was in hardcore denial mode 😂. It wasn't until my college professor pulled me aside and told me he thinks I needed glasses because he could see I was squinting at the screens no matter where I sat. I finally caved and got them and let's just say it was like I had gone to the moon. Everything was SO clear I never thought that my eyes where so damn bad, I was under the impression that I had good vision lol. I had been living pretty much blind all my life. Till this day I find myself sometimes forgetting that I need glasses because I was so used to not seeing. I would leave out to go grab something and be like why is everything looking weird then slap myself for leaving my glasses at home 😅😂.
The reading comment got to me because when I was a kid I was always reading books super close to my face. My head was always in a book and I would read at all hours even in the dark with only the moon if it was a clear night or with the little light from the hallways. Even as a kid I remember some family telling me that I might need glasses because I read with the book so close to my face. They all thought I was nearsighted. I'm one of those people who fall in the range of always need to wear glasses 24/7 to see anything.

While I do agree with the ending statement about learning, I also think that sciences are inherently interesting to begin with. It all depends on how you present it to someone else.
I hated the school type of learning (aka: mindless memorization), the way it was presented to me made most of it incredibly boring...including whatever science/biology/chemistry lessons I had growing up.
