As far as I'm aware, the "Finite Central Curve" is just the way "Ricks" group/classify universes which contain a Rick, it's not a reference to the direct physics of how it is, just the way they keep track. Infinities are too hard to comprehend and keep track of, so it helps to create a subjective way to organize the unorganizeable. lol In the middle of the curve are the Ricks which most Ricks agree are most like the average Rick.. lol whatever that means.. Whereas along the edges of the curve, Rick's and their universes start to get weird, from our perspective. Outside the curve are universes that either have no Rick, or have physics that aren't exactly compatible with ours. Obviously infinities are still involved, but in order to keep track, they arrange universes along a curve of those infinities, ordering them by how close to the average they are. Technically they shouldn't call it "finite", however that could just be referring to the finite number they've actually classified and know about. That number itself will ALWAYS be finite, even if they're pulling the data from an infinite source. No matter how infinite, they can only KNOW an ever increasing finite number. And even within their "finite curve" there are still infinite possibilities, and that finite curve number is likely always increasing, as they become aware of those possibilities.
I don't quite think it's that the Central Finite Curve is defined by every "Rick", because as you said, there are still an infinite number of Ricks, even as a subset of the infinite number of universes. It's more likely that the Central Finite Curve is defined by the universes which are known to have the conditions which lead to a Rick being born, in combination with the further subset of Ricks that have have been able to achieve inter-dimensional travel, and further, those Ricks which have been catalogued by the Citadel of Ricks. The second condition, that it counts Ricks who have achieved inter-dimensional travel, may itself be debatable because there are two, maybe three known instances of Ricks who may or may not have achieved the feat: Doofus Rick, from this episode, Simple Rick, who favored a simple life with his family over science, and "Bootleg" Rick, who killed himself with improper portal fluid. There may be a bit more to it than that, too. On the Citadel, there seems to be very little difference between each individual Rick. They are all older hispanic men of the same age and general history. The only notable exceptions that I can recall being on the Citadel are Cronenberg Rick, who we know is a natural Cronenberg monster, but who moved into a universe where a our Rick was known to reside, and Black Rick. However, outside of the Citadel, we've seen a few alternatives to this, notably in Season 4 Episode 1, where we were introduced to Wasp Rick, Shrimp Rick, and Fascist Teddy Rick. If those permutations are possible, then how is it that we've yet to see a Female Rick? After all, within the span of infinity, it's entirely probable that Rick's parents could have had a daughter instead of a son, and where that girl could grow to have the same general history, genius, and talent that would lead her to fit within the ranks of Ricks. The most likely case, in my opinion, is that the Central Finite Curve is a finite database that refers to Ricks known to the Citadel, but there are an infinite number of Citadels of Rick, each with their own Central Finite Curve (which may or may not overlap with others), but where the "Curve" defines the general circumstances that defines the version of Rick that populates that citadel.
@@johns6014 Well, I didn't really mean "every" Rick.. Just those who take part in the Citadel of Ricks, and it would be them to agree on what their general definition of "average rick" would be on the curve. And of course Ricks that aren't part of the Citadel may have their own personal definition of the curve, based on their own knowledge/organizating. And I'm not sure if there would be multiple Citadels, as we haven't seen evidence of that yet.. But otherwise I mostly agree.. lol
Damn it, I just left almost the exact same comment. I think this is the case and John's reply is also correct. There's one possibility that I've not seen mentioned, which is that multiverses aren't splitting constantly from all possible quantum interactions, but rather when the OG universe was born, it had infinite probability space initially within the limits of physics and birthed a finite infinity of multiverses, most of which did not lead to Ricks. The central finite curve would then be a collection of multiverses with probability space where Ricks came to exist. This would explain how Rick can only find "few" similar multiverses to inhabit after the cronenberg incident: At this point in time there's only very slim probability space for a universe where the Rick has made the exact same choices as C-137, in fact there's only few of them left(and Rick C-137 just took over one of them.). Also, since we are thinking in probabilities, we should be able to conclude that when Rick C-137 cronenberged the earth and took over another multiverse, there were some, few, Ricks that did the same. This'd mean that the whole probability space for identical universes to Rick C-137's has just halved, since all the similar Ricks that made the same choices just took over another multiverse that housed other similar Rick. Other thing that kinda bugs me about the cronenberg episode is that C-137 Rick travels to a multiverse that has the same Rick in same situation, but behind in time(since he hadn't cronenberged the world yet, but C-137 had). Harmon has been pretty adamant about time travel not being involved, so would that mean that Rick looked up a multiverse where Rick and Morty made the exact same choices, but somehow few days later? That'd also explain the difficulty of finding suitable "identical" multiverse, since it has to be the same, but "behind in time".
@@z3dar To your last point, I would note that it was specified that the universe that they moved to did see a Cronenberg event, but it was one of the instances where the Rick of that universe was able to rectify the situation, and where he and his Morty died shortly thereafter.
7:40 they were talking about the "grouping" of the universes that they could observe that included a 'rick' that was not extremely different from eachother
I think the central finite curve they're referring to isn't a "real physics" thing in the lore, but rather a unit or a system made to help navigate the multiverse. In my mind it is a measurement on how much the universes differ from the median of all the universes that have Ricks, so they can distinguish each other, and also so they don't for example travel to a universe that immediately collapses or one that doesn't allow atoms to stick together. It does imply that multiverse isn't infinite infinite, but rather infinite limited by shrinking probability space if that makes sense. If multiverse really was infinite, then there'd be infinite monkeys that manage to write Hamlet perfectly, not just one(and that sounds intuitively wrong to me, even though I can't say why) - and from story telling perspective it's crucial to not have infinite do-overs, but limit it somehow. btw, great content! Don't worry about going on tangents, they're great: you explain things at the right depth atm. If someone wants deeper information they can look it up from the pointers and terms you give in the videos. That is to say - keep trusting that your viewers get enough of what you're talking about: I don't need to hear in depth workings of quantum mechanics and such for the 100th time - just mentioning/explaining the relevant parts is fine.
The only issue with that is if there are an infinite amount of all possibles, how do you generate a median of anything. No possibility happens any more than any other?
@@tommorgan7599 I'm just spitballing here, but this kind of infinity I'm thinking of doesn't allow exact copies of universes. If Rick finds a universe "identical" to the one they left, it would have to have at least 1 quantum level difference to it. Like if you have infinite number series 1,2,3... You could add to it 1.0000001, but never another 1 - a limited infinity. I imagine it like a quantum wave function collapsing: Think of a photon you shoot in double slit experiment. It could in theory end up anywhere in the universe at any time, it's just much more likely that it lands on the screen in front of it (on the shape of quantum interference pattern), than the photon quantum tunnelling to space mid flight or something. Similarly the universe that we see in the show is probably follows a common path, but each moment similar universes are bit less likely to exist. That's what I mean by shrinking probability space. In other words, the universe at the moment of beginning had full infinity of equally likely futures for all the energy/particles, but each tick of time the possibilities grow less random and more certain, so that some futures are more likely to follow than others.
@@z3dar Well that's a fair point. The question then becomes, take sequence 1,2,3..going on for infinity. But between those numbers are 1.1, 1.2.1.3. So we have "whole numbers" and..."not whole numbers". Now from the outset it would seem that no matter how high you count there would always be more "not whole numbers" than "whole numbers". But I think the concept of infinity claims there are the same amount? (please forgive my lack of scientific terminology, I'm way out of my depth xD)
@@tommorgan7599 I don't know too much about maths of infinities, but I think you're essentially right. There are infinite amount of both whole numbers and fractional numbers, - and you can for example prove that there are more numbers between 1 and 2 than there are 'whole numbers' all together. ruclips.net/video/cgpDVOZpyrI/видео.html In any case, that doesn't really matter. What matters is that there was infinite equal possibilities at the beginning, but there aren't anymore, because some possibilities have become impossible(or infinitely unlikely).
@@tommorgan7599 It might be easier to think about it so that there are always infinite amount of nearly identical universes but it becomes all the time less likely that rick can find one.

The finite central curve is explained in the season 5 finale. It's technically finite I believe, although it could be slight misnomer in that it's a lesser infinity. The explanation of what it is is a MAJOR spoiler.
@@MikeKing001 The existence of Simple Rick doesn't disprove the central finite curve. In fact, it actually proves what's revealed in the S5 finale. If our Rick is the Rickiest Rick in the Universe, then there has to be an Un-Rickiest Rick. That's what finite means!

They could be refering to a finite curve of ricks/universes that are similar enough in physics and choices to be comprehensible and interactable with eachother. AWESOME! SO GLAD YOU DECIDED TO MAKE A SERIES OUT OF RICK AND MORTY REACTIONS and commentary. A great combo of entertainment and education! Thanks Dylan.
I think the "central finite curve" is the dimensions where reality is still somewhat recognizable. Like if you could picture alternate dimensions mapped out onto an infinite curve where each reality gets more foreign to what we can recognize the further out along the curve from where your dimension is located. The outskirts of the curve would be the dimensions where recliners are ordering humans on pizza, etc.
The finite curve would be a demarcated section of the infinite curve where the probabilities are related closely enough to produce entities which are recognisably "Rick". Finite subset of an infinite superset, dude :D
Well if you do end up watching all of the episodes up to the current ones, you will understand why they specifically said Central finite curve. It was intentional.

And of course Ricks that aren't part of the Citadel may have their own personal definition of the curve, based on their own knowledge/organizating. And I'm not sure if there would be multiple Citadels, as we haven't seen evidence of that yet.. But otherwise I mostly agree.. lol
Uhhh, yes
Beth talking about her dad: “I just wish I would see more of you”
Dylan: “Relatable”🙃
So sad
You have the best interpretation of Rick and Morty, it's superb. It's a clever show!
Morty is Rick and of course visa versa
There are infinite amount of both whole numbers and fractional numbers, - and you can for example prove that there are more numbers between 1 and 2 than there are 'whole numbers' all together.
ruclips.net/video/cgpDVOZpyrI/видео.html
In any case, that doesn't really matter.

Dude, I just discovered your channel and LOVE your input on the zeitgeist. Keep up the great videos! Much love from Seattle.
I hope you do every rick and morty episode! Good job sir, thanks
I like how you explained the finite curve thing because right there it didn’t make sense but in the future the newest episodes make sense of it he should really do an updated one of the newer episodes

I don't hear this nearly as often as I think I should, would love to see you go into this topic with depth!
This is too dope!!! You really need to do all the episodes! It will blow up 🔥🔥 love your content!
would be awesome if you reacted to the season 5 finale, it explains what the central finite curve is (though massive spoilers if you havent seen the rest of the series)
I love your commentary, it will actually help improve the scientific knowledge of Rick and Morty fans
The finite central curve is explained in the season 5 finale. It's technically finite I believe, although it could be slight misnomer in that it's a lesser infinity. The explanation of what it is is a MAJOR spoiler.
It was hidden in plain sight.
@@badvermin not really we have simple rick and tall morty. They clearly hadn't planned on it at all at the beginning of the show.
This!
I'd love to see your reaction to the whole show, even If some episodes doesn't have much physics stuff in it you look like someone with an interesting opinion on all things nerdy/geek like.
I love the suits!! don't let the haters bring you down, they just wish they could look as good as you
I love your content, dude!
Rick C-137 is referred to as "our Rick." He is the baseline Rick to whom we look for, well, our constant. So I love that you made that connection 💜
Honestly I will watch every Rick and Morty episode you make
Thanks you for the audio equalization, It’s much easier to hear you this time, great video my man
Wow, he almost cracked even the Season Five final episode twist in this video :D
Lol your humour is so subtle but effective. For that, you earned my sub

I'm subbing cuz this, this is genius
Keep me coming :) it was very entertaining seeing your facial expression go from judging to actually liking the show in the first video.
"I think I'll leave it there"
But...Evil Morty 😢
They could be refering to a finite curve of ricks/universes that are similar enough in physics and choices to be comprehensible and interactable with eachother. CaUse there are infinite numbers of dimensions but only so many that are even remotely close enough for you to make sense of and communicate with them, includong due to human limitations on what they could feasibly track at once.
That's more what I was thinking than just "universes with Rick in them"

I think the "central finite curve" is the dimensions where reality is still somewhat recognizable. Like if you could picture alternate dimensions mapped out onto an infinite curve where each reality gets more foreign to what we can recognize the further out along the curve from where your dimension is located. The outskirts of the curve would be the dimensions where recliners are ordering humans on pizza, etc.
"You don't need to wear a suit in the bedroom"
"okay, I'm in the lounge room... suck it"

Omg, I love this so much!!! Please do this for all the Rick and Morty episodes and/or any other sci-fi movies/series :-)
The finite curve would be a demarcated section of the infinite curve where the probabilities are related closely enough to produce entities which are recognisably "Rick". Finite subset of an infinite superset, dude :D
He truly enjoys all of this . i appreciate you brother
Well if you do end up watching all of the episodes up to the current ones, you will understand why they specifically said Central finite curve. It was intentional.
The fine constant catch was top notch stuff. Make more videos.
Why is Channing Tatum wearing a suit and glasses, using big words and an accent, and watching Rick and Morty???
💀💀
I'm glad you have stuff to elaborate on in the episode. There are definitely some episodes that would be less scientific, or at least has less subjects.
You should check out futurama. They have they smartest group of writers, every writer has a PhD or master degrees in science or math. The newer episode are said to be true to science and are also really funny

The central finite curve is explained in season 4 finale. They just mention it here way early so of course no one knew what it was referring to.
This is great. It feels like when I was back in college Physics II (my favorite class in college). Concepts were interesting while doing the work was fun.
