Gatling laser is super ammo efficient, no need the charging barrels to that - just use power user perk and you will have 1k shots per core. Never use charging barrels without FFR on second star...makes no sense. The waves mods are also great, adding burning damage and enabling friendly fire to work, super useful for events where u need to keep npcs alive (eg radiation rumble). This weapon is a good starter for heavy gunners when properly modded.
When it comes to charging barrels. (I use two ultracite gatling in tandem) one set with charging. The other with regular barrels. But the one with charging barrels have 25% rate of fire. It's a game changer, and can easily keep up with the vampires that has reg barrels in terms of damage
Sadly it doesn't have any special effects AND it's a normal gatling laser instead of an ultracite one, also FFR is so much better than dmg while aiming due to the unique interaction with charging barrels so this is a good gun you can use for basically anything but if you want a heavy laser your goal should be a FFR ultracite gatling with a main effect that works for your build. the 90 weight is nice for you to be able to carry it just to get fusion cores at the end of ops or expeditions though, my AA FFR laser uses ultracite cores so cant use it for that, its a sad niche to have but its there I guess, still like the gun overall, mainly for its availability
EDIT: just incase you dont know the FFR interaction, with charging barrels you normally get a firerate of 30, with FFR that's doubled to 60 since the 25% go off of the base fire rate without any mods so it massively increases your damage when using charging barrels
EDIT2: just to comment on the expeditions, you always get 3-4 cores at the end which is usually plenty do do the entire expedition (with the ultracite ffr I use at least) and the occasional drops from enemies are jsut a bonus, I'd also add that especially ultracite cores are extremely cheap to craft IF you ahve the perks, its like 1 flux to 7 which is 3500 to 7000 shots depending on if you use the perk that extends fusion core duration (I don't myself but it can get crazy with it)
I love this gun I never use power armor so I got lots of cores for it to burn through
they should have added weapon speed to it too
Only thing I like is the weight reduction
It's interesting... most people seem to want to run an ultracite gatling laser if they're running that. So this is a godroll... for the second string gattling laser. More than good enough, but not what people are really hunting.
And I think that's to the good, honestly. I don't want them to give us EVERY godroll, every time. Free good guns? Absolutely. Personally I wish all these event guns were like Elders mark. Slightly better upgrades to...re-roll for end game top tier guns.
Yeah, I couldn't get too worked up about this one. Not really a fan of the GL, and the 25% damage while aiming on a weapon I'd typically hip-fire is not amazing. The other effects are fine, just not earth-shattering.
my ultracite gatlin laser is with the same legendary effects hits harder.
