Not only, on bigger projects surveyors work setting out, as builts, setting the control for the job etc etc. Also many surveyors working as a setting out engineers. Setting out engineer is a specific role really as it's a surveyor & engineer 😀
Hello Greg, when marking up column positions and grid lines in RC frame construction, do you use the 360 prism on prism pole? Do you get the required accuracy with this method as the prism is elevated above the point, thus relying on a steady hand and the accuracy of the spirit bubble in the pogo pole? Do you ever use the mini prism to achieve better accuracy? In this video you briefly covered marking the point, do you make an indent in the ground with the tip of prism pole, put the prism pole aside and then use a marker pen to mark an X. If you could demonstrate this process in one of your videos, also covering how you lay out the lines with the spray paint, I have seen it done whereby they use two bricks to tighten up the line on the ground and spray over the top of the line. Hi Patrick! I was using the small one, or shooting using the laser. I know people are using pole for setting out columns, but I don't like it myself. In this case I used a laser and for as built survey I used a pole+prism. I will show soon the procedure then :) I have a chalk line so I ask someone to help me, or if it's a string line to hold it and I am spraying :)

You don’t need gridlines to set out. He said he’s setting out via national grid so as long as your instrument is set up with national coordinates you’re good to go.
Hi everyone. I am very familiar with the setting out procedure on site when I have known control points to set up the station over. However, I have been giving the task of setting out a new extension to an existing building. The CAD drawing has the existing building with the extension present but no proper X,Y,Z co-ordinates on it. There is also no known control point anywhere on this site. Can someone please assist me on how I go about setting out this building?? Any help would be great
Hi! I would shoot the existing building and set a ref line a work with it, as it really will be your 'local system' where you will be using offset as x and length of line as y. Let me know if you need more explanation.👍👍👍
@@SITENG Set up TS on arbitrary coords like 1000,5000,100 and then shoot the building? I can then transfer over the cad drawing onto my surveyed points and survey a few control points? Would that work
you can also set up 2 targets so you can have always the same reference line and than you can prepare the information in advance knowing the O and L for whatever you will be setting out.

Reason why he did not place tripod on the ground was due to the membrane placed on the ground. The tripod feet would pierce it damaging the membrane.

How do you create a custom line for example you’re one was PLV how can I create HV, or LV, or water ?

Is it not easier to use auto linework while surveying so it automatically creates the polyline instead of doing it manually in AutoCAD?
Not sure, have to check it, but it's not takin me a lot of time to be honest and like to draw what I know it's in :)
