This is a awesome video! Never in my 10 years of civil engineer career I've experience working on skyscrapers or multi level buildings. We usually stick with Major roadway corridors. I always wanted to see how different it is from what I do. I also use Leica Survey equipment. I currently use CS20 data collector but I think the CS15 is better in my opinion. Great video!
Well done Greg. Great video... I wish I came across this channel many years ago... I was an engineer in London and always struggled on site. Being an engineer on site is a very lonely place. In my experience I felt that nobody could work cohesively together. It was never an enjoyable experience for me. Best of luck with your channel.
Awesome, I'm currently finishing my bachelors degree ( 3 exams left and I can take each of the 4 more times until the end of the semester), can't wait to actually be done with studying and get into a real job but I will be going for masters degree if I manage to finish my bachelors this year since I'm only 21 and want to finish the university as soon as possible. Really hyped to actually go to a real construction site and get some real work done :)

Hi Joseph! Not any soon I think. To plumb the core walls the plumb lasers are used and you can still do the checks with EDM. If it's slipform the driver really should keep an eye at this with your help and keep correcting the rig

For plumb I’m just checking the shutters top & bottom (with an offset) against the plumb at the same point on the exposed concrete from the levels below. Trying to keep everything the same. And then just checking this against the plan position of the walls as well. Would you do anything drastically different from that? Great videos though mate, some great content 👍🏼

Hi Stela! Not sure what choices you have, I'll check and come back to you. In general it does not matter too much which course you will take as you will be good to do civil engineering anyway. Try to find something most interesting for you. I did structural engineering myself.

Hi, sorry for late reply. I don't really know what are you into :) Do you want to be a civil engineer, or a graphic designer. Both options are very interesting. Depends also how old you are etc.
It's typically first step to do setting out on site, but it's not surveying only. For me it was a surprise too as I didn't know how to use surveying equipment first 😁 It's much better/easier to be an engineer and learn a bit about Total Station than be a surveyor and start to be a site engineer.
@SITENG thanks for the reply. In the US, a site engineer is totally different. Surveying is its own distinct field. You wouldn't typically see a site engineer doing that sort of work. More of a technical project manager focusing a specific project.
It depends on the project size really, as this is actually called a setting out engineer, but often site engineer is expected to do setting out duties. Site engineer typically deals with QA checks, material take-off/orders etc and tech stuff. On big jobs there are setting out engineers, site engineers, surveyors. Surveying is a distinct field too here
@SITENG ahhh I follow. That's interesting because in the US, a site engineer (also called project engineer) have certain duties (planning/logistics, estimating, admin, etc). Excluding utilizing surveying equipment (though they would need to be able to supervise surveying crews and read surveying drawings) it's the samething. Could you get a dual license for engineering and surveying because you have the experience doing the latter?

Not too sure, but internship might be not paid and graduate engineer is typically paid position, but it really depends on the company you would work for.
Hi! Depends on the project really, but it is stressful job, especially at the beginning of your career. Once you have more experience there will be less stress, but still :) Deadlines are sometimes crazy, so to keep quality is the issue which than becomes stressful too.
Hi Raj! I travel around 40min and stay 10h on site. I don't have double shifts. Typically sites work 10h a day. Some companies pay double shifts on weekends, most 1.5time for Saturdays.
@@SITENG So in UK, Site Engineers work for 5 days typically 10 hrs a day. Is that correct? That means working on Saturdays are voluntary and those working are paid 1.5 times than usual day payment. That's great to know.
@@SITENG I travel 2 hours to start 7am and finish 5pm then 2 hours back home. Had another site which was 3 hours away 💀. Work life balance as site engineer is non existent.

Hi! look for some graduate engineers roles, or assistant engineers. This year doesn't look great for the industry, but don't lose hope. Look big projects like HS2 and HPC - they're always looking for people.
Hi! Just remember you will need your CSCS card and NI number apart from visa to start on site. I really recommend going from site to site and ask for a job apart from sending CV etc. Good luck!!!
Hi Michelle! Of course it is, this year is really good for engineers and it shouldn't be a big problem for you to jump to UK reality. You just need to make sure you are eligible to work here, or get some permit as there was many changes since brexit not only regarding EU.

I am not sure about Canadian market and when do you think to start work, but here in UK there are loads of opportunities and great projects too (Hinkley point, HS2, many interesting high rises). Canada has to be great place to live too, but unfortunately I don't know too much about it and can't help.

You will always need reference, info about your position, can be GPS depending on what you will be doing, or best UKPN points etc.

There is always a boss ;) depends on the project really, small job you do nearly everything, big job your responsibilities will be more narrow.
Greg, if you measure the RT point in first position and then measure in a second position. How do you find the average for the RT point?

Hi Abhijit! You can, but you need to sort out visa to be eligible to work I think. Check UK companies as they might help with the process.

Hi Mohammed! I am not sure about Canadian market and when do you think to start work, but here in UK there are loads of opportunities and great projects too (Hinkley point, HS2, many interesting high rises). Canada has to be great place to live too, but unfortunately I don't know too much about it and can't help.
