I too was a choirboy in the sixties, and along with the adult choir at our Cathedral, we alternated between this Schubert Mass No. 2 in G Major, and the Lord Nelson Mass by Joseph Haydn, at High Mass on Sundays. And, without exception, our Communion Hymn was none other than "How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place" from Johannes Brahms' Requiem. I long for those days of wonderful classical sacred music.
This is one of my favourite masses, always a pleasure to hear. The fact that this great work in honour of Jesus Christ is performed by Israelis is a poignant bonus.
Yes, I think that is very gracious of them. I've seen similar interfaith performances on YT, in both directions (e.g., Bloch & Milhaud's Sacred Service), and think that both groups appreciate the beautiful music each has produced!
I first sang this just after I turned seven.... This is so familiar to me, and I love this edition as it is different to how I have sung it so many times, as a treble, alto and tenor, and I like variations of masses like this.
2:28 thank you director, wonderful dynamics yet again, so many groups just blast through choral masterworks at the same volume and forget that the beauty often lies in the spaces between notes and that volume is a tool of sculpting rather than of pummeling :) Well worth listening to.
I sang this too in a private choir in my early 20s and it's true the connection with the piece is unique. It's like life itself was contained throughout the movements and moods.
A beautiful performance by all of those involved. Simple and elegant, poised, tender and expressive. Perfect tempi. I think I've fallen in love with the soprano soloist! The bass is very fine, too. I was very grateful to have this performance to learn from; having the opportunity to sing the bass solo myself last night with the Royal Free Music Society.
Wunderbar !!!!!!!!!!
My High school performance Chorus the Castleers of Castlemont H.S. in Oakland CA sang this 47 years ago 1973. My favorite is the Benedictus. This is a wonderful rendition of the Mass.
Along with my sister Julie Wittes Schlack, I was in a choir that performed this piece at a socialist summer camp called Shaker Village ~ 1967, near Pittsfield, MA USA. I loved it then and love it now.
14:55 What a great lovely smile by the wonderful tenor soloist for his marvellous soprano colleague. And then five seconds later the alert look at the conductor, "what's going on". In his position my reactions (both) would have been exactly the same. 😀
Very good, but the transition from Crucifixus into "Et resurrexit..." deserves so much more emotion!!! That transition is so crucial to the whole piece! It should sound like "Freunde, Freunde..." in Ode to Joy!
Reposting someone’s time stamps with larger spaces for my thumbs. Thank you! Also, added some others for certain sub-parts. 0:18 Kyrie 1:26 Soprano Solo 2:00 Tutti 4:12 Gloria 5:22 Soprano/Bass Solo 6:05 Tutti 7:00 Credo 13:11 Sanctus 13:48 Allegro 14:44 Benedictus 18:05 Allegro 19:03 Agnus Dei
With such a small theater I don't think any of them would so oblivious. Newbies to classical usually go to more famous performances before anything like this anyways.
Schubert G-dúr miséje nekem a legkedvesebb.
@ Easter?!? This is the mass that is performed for All Saints service in the Fall of the year. This certainly isn't for the Resurrection! This is sung for All Saints (Nov. 1st). Schubert's Mass or Faure's Requiem.
Does anyone know what the organ/piano instrument is please the sound is very interesting and appropriate even though the score we are using says for piano
Hello, classical noob here! first of all: fantastic rendition, thank you ! I don't get how the choir is arranged: sopranos to the very left, then bass, then tenor, then alto. Is this order correct ? If it is why are they put together in this order ? We're doing this with my choir and the disposition is : Sopranos, then Alto, then Tenor, then Bass. What is the logic behind this ? Also please feel free to correct me if I have mistaken a sentence, or If I'm using the words incorrectly or with the wrong terminology. Thanks a lot !
Schubert's Mass No.2 in G Major will be performed by Maranatha Singers Namibia and Friends 3 & 4 June in Windhoek, Namibia. Venue: NG Kerk, Pionierspark @ 18H00. Entrance fee is N$100
This brings back wonderful memories. When I was a choirboy in the 1960s we sang this mass setting every Easter for the High Mass.

Is this an israeli choir?

Excellent performance by singers, instruments og director. The trio in Benedictus on the highest level. Plain beauty.
2:28 thank you director, wonderful dynamics yet again, so many groups just blast through choral masterworks at the same volume and forget that the beauty often lies in the spaces between notes and that volume is a tool of sculpting rather than of pummeling :) Well worth listening to.
did you want to say conductor? i speak spanish and director is a word in spanish
I sang the solo soprano part for the Agnus Dei at Scarboro United Church on Sunday April 9,2017.I do love Schubert! This rendition is excellent!
I remember doing this piece my junior year in college....more than 30 years ago! Still remember it.
Watching and listening were a big help. I'm singing this tomorrow in a choir of about 35.
Muy bueno. Sonido, direcciòn, tempo, coro, solistas, orquesta. Aplausos !!
I sang it 15 years ago, in college. I still remember the soprano lines and all the lyrics. Just love it!
The ensemble is very good! Congrats!
I sang this in college. Brings back wonderful memories
I sang this too in a private choir in my early 20s and it's true the connection with the piece is unique. It's like life itself was contained throughout the movements and moods.
I'm about to....can't wait!

Sang this in college 6yrs ago! Still reminder most of the lyrics and all the alto parts!
My first exposure to this piece. Beautiful and well done.
Gyönyörű koncert volt, mindenkinek HATALMAS GRATULÁCIÓ!
A beautiful performance by all of those involved. Simple and elegant, poised, tender and expressive. Perfect tempi.

Our choir is rehearsing this for next concert and this is the best version I have found - just lovely - it's deeply moving - enjoy
Thought the same.. I'm also studying it with my choir.. 😉

My school chorus along with The Symphony Chorus of New Orleans performed this last night. It's so beautiful. The Gloria is my favorite.
Wonderful and moving - the Benedictus especially beautiful.
Brilliant! I am particularly amazed of the quality of such young performers.
... not to mention quality of composition by a young composer (just turned 18) ...
An exquisite performance. Bravo!
It's crazy, out of all the ones on you tube, I love you guys the best. Bravo!
Such a beautiful, clean performance. Your excellent dynamics, intonation and diction bring the crispness to this work that it deserves.
Looking forward to learning this for Weymouth Choral Society for their March concert 2016!
So sharp and clear, and I can hear all of the parts! I love this!
Along with my sister Julie Wittes Schlack, I was in a choir that performed this piece at a socialist summer camp called Shaker Village ~ 1967, near Pittsfield, MA USA. I loved it then and love it now.
Wonderful! Heaven on Earth!!!
Thank you very much
This is my favorite interpretation of this work. Good job 😊
A beautiful performance! I used this video of the performance to practice for our performance.
We have to sing this in our consort choir and we are all 14-17 years old and it sounds beautiful except we have 90-100 people in our choir.
We have 12 people in my choir class at school.
I sang this in high school and did the bass solo for Agnus Dei circa 1971
Not so easy to sing! Well done! Beautiful voices!
14:55 What a great lovely smile by the wonderful tenor soloist for his marvellous soprano colleague. And then five seconds later the alert look at the conductor, "what's going on". In his position my reactions (both) would have been exactly the same. 😀
Beautiful.
Rather lovely overall sound from the choir and the ensemble!
Outstanding!
Wonderful!! Love!
This is my masterwork for my chorus class
WONDERFUL!!! BRAVO!!!
Thank you
I love how you can really hear the altos! (I'm an alto)
Ofelia C-O seriously! It's so hard to find recordings in which you can actually hear the altos.
its hard to find recordings where you cant hear trebles lol
this is not one of them
You can harly hear the altos in my choir XD
SneakeyAlexander healed Willian requiem
This is a very good recording of this Mass. I'm surprised that it doesn't have more views.
This is magnificent!
Gratuluji! Bravo!
Lovely!
This is so great!! I'm singing the benedictus (soprano) for our school concert soon! So scared!
Very good, but the transition from Crucifixus into "Et resurrexit..." deserves so much more emotion!!! That transition is so crucial to the whole piece! It should sound like "Freunde, Freunde..." in Ode to Joy!

Anyone else holding their breath to see if anyone would clap between movements? No? Just me? Okay...
With such a small theater I don't think any of them would so oblivious. Newbies to classical usually go to more famous performances before anything like this anyways.

That box that looks like a piano/organ is called a continuo (see the stopped flute pipes exiting the side of the casework?)
Singing this in my highschool choir :)
i memorize this whole thing
I love this song
Aplausos !!
Wao, sin desperdicio.
My choir was supposed to sing this when we went to Carnegie but that got cut short by covid :(
I've heard the 3rd movement played twice as fast and I prefer it that way
Toda !
WHO IS THE BASS SOLOIST HE HAS MY HEART
I know. I don't really like that sound but we just performed this last night and the soloist with us did the same thing. Must be in the air! lol
I shared it!
Nice...

Many thanks for the information

12-08-2016 Mercès!
The Tenor soloist though
I kinda prefer the soprano soloist more
Very beautiful indeed. But the "Agnus Dei" in 2 makes for no slow movement. I'm not convinced.

One gets a better blend and balance of sound with this arrangement of the sections. Lovely performance; excellent soprano and baritone soloists .
he was 12 when he wrote this.
Idk where you heard that because no, he was 17-18 when he wrote this
