      Any thoughts on the Canon 24-70 f/4 IS? Or a particular reason why the sigma would be a better option?
      I know it has been a while since this has been posted :)

    Under very sad circumstances I have become the proud owner of a 6D and a wealth of lenses and other equipment. I have an uncle that has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and he wanted to give me his camera equipment before he passes. Up until now I have really only dabbled in photography, always meaning to knuckle down and do the home and field work to get the most from the hobby. I want to do my uncle's incredible generosity and kindness justice by using the camera and equipment properly and your excellent video has given me the start I needed - Thank you

    I know, this is an older camera. We asked people what cameras they wanted tutorials for, and they wanted to see the 6D and D750. They're still current, very popular, and they pre-date this video format. So, at the request of hundreds of people, we made these tutorials.

      Mahler8 I guess it depends on what you are using it for, in terms of full frame value nothing in the market that I know off right now. I just love how great this works with ISO and low light. winner for me.

      Yes! There's always more to learn, and we never know where or when it will be revealed. Even though I have been shooting 41 years I learn things watching this channel. Everyone's knowledge [and skill] has gaps. Tony and Chelsea helped me find several of mine.

Thank you very much.

    Tony, I hope you read this. But I find your videos very informative. Photography was always a hobby of mine, I don't have a school to learn this stuff from since I study economics.
    Your videos are a tremendous help for me to become a better photographer. I love taking pictures, more than anything in this world. I learned all the basic and more "advanced" stuff from your channel; Like histograms, lenses, bodies, how to frame, etc...
    This message is simply a small thank you for that. I love how informative your videos are, very well done and put together. Please keep doing this, I'll watch every upcoming video of yours. If it's 10 hours or 20 seconds, I will probably watch all of it.
    Thank you!

    I just bought a used 6d, and know nothing about taking pictures with it, but I did quite a bit of research on this model before I bought it. I want to do multiple exposures, and this camera will do them, and actually was recommended as the best for this purpose if you are going digital. The books for "Dummies" are expensive for this camera, so I took a chance and went on RUclips, and presto, there your video was as if it was made just for me. Thank you so much for making this learning curve a little easier for me.

    I cannot express my gratitude for this video fully enough- huge thanks! You've distilled the info in the rather baroque Canon manual into clear, concise, logical, easily-assimilable blocks. This is definitely one of the best how-to videos- of any type- I've seen on RUclips. Really grateful for your effort here, if only because I will never again use anything but back button focus. Chapeau, as we say in the old country!

    Thanks Tony for these resources. I bought my first full frame 6D against the newer 6D Mark2 model. I have watched your Canon 6D Overview tutorial and can honestly say you’re very knowledgeable and this is the manual Canon should have included in the box. I have now purchased the PDF version of your “Stunning Digital Photography” book and I’m blown away at how good the book is. Thank you firstly for helping me to learn to use my 6D properly and only in a day and secondly for the rewarding photography journey I will now embark on with all the help from your books and guidance.

      I bought one used last year as an upgrade to full frame. Was about 900 euros and the lenses are not too expensive (canon has a very good prime lineup).
      I think it's up to the subject. For still subjects (astro, portrait, landscape) it is very good. It's really amazing to see all this detail and the good controls layout on the camera if you come from mid-range consumer cameras.

    • @AlanHoey86
      @AlanHoey86 8 лет назад +4

      The D7200 isn't a full frame camera though like the 6D? That disavows it automatically for me. The 6D excels at low light photography and with the full frame sensor, it's a great entry level full frame body for night sky photography and astrophotography. If anything a comparative Nikon would be the d750 but I've already invested in the Canon EF glass.

    • @AlanHoey86
      @AlanHoey86 8 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the information, still objects will certainly be the primary subject for me. I was intending to purchase pre-owned and with the 6Dmk2 surely on the way soon I'm hoping for a further reduction on the 6D prices.

  • @ActualCounterfactual
    @ActualCounterfactual 4 года назад +1

    To put some perspective to this and what you get for the money, remember that Professionals used the EOS-D1 for their corporate work back in the days and shot fantastic images.
    The list-price was 6500 Eur and the resolution was a meagre 4 MegaPixel only.
    I have shot on many models over 30 years including pre-digital, and I will now get myself a new body again for photography (no video). Since I don't shoot fast action buying a 6D is a no brainer + I know it will last me years to come and quality of images will be top notch.
    Today... a second hand 6D is exceptional value for the money.
    UPDATE, I now had two 6D bodies that BOTH failed me. I got a tried and tested model instead, 5Dii has been used and abused by many professionals over the years so got this instead. I have not looked back, and I'm hard pressed to do any major difference in the noise etc as long as I don't pixel peep 100% or above. No regrets going 5dii instead.

    Awesome vid! Had my 6D for a year or so, but still had some things I learned in here. Note for people looking for a better deal on the batteries, look for the "accessories kit" for canon to go on sale, often it's less than just the battery on its own, and then you can usually sell the rest of the kit for a bit to recoup even more. :)

(eg. shooting where a lot of sky is in the picture and I'm compensating for the change in light). I never knew that the pricey 24-70 2.8 doesn't have image stabilization. (I bought the f4, which does but i could use the faster lens). Thanks for the sygma recommendation, i often can use a lens with more reach. thanks so much for this video.

    Thankyou dear lady. It did help. I was able to update the firmware.
    Only one miner suggestion. Do not copy the zipped fireware file in DCIM directory.; copy it in the root directory of your SD card.

    Just my 2 cents on the 6D. Have had it for 2 years and have been using it for portraits mainly. Have taken on vacation and it's been fantastic for scenery and landscapes.
    I have never been able to get GPS to connect. Don't need it so no big deal for me.
    Outer focus points are not great. Sometimes it's me and sometimes it's the camera (shooting fast shutter - f7-9).
    I did have to send the camera back to have the autofocus replaced last fall - outer points were off by a mile.
    If you are considering a camera for portrait work, you may want to consider a used 5D3 for around the same price as the outer focal points extend out from the center further and out to the corners.

    I too have been a big fan of the Godox strobes. One thing i noticed (and just picked one up) is that Neewer is now selling the Godox strobe at Amazon for a considerable discount. (I think it was $469) As you say, i am sure the support isn't great but it is compatible with the rest of my Godox remotes/strobes/flashes and considerably cheaper.

    This is a very underrated camera. It has had all these features since 2011. The same features that the new mirrorless companies claim are "technological breakthroughs". Lol

    Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I’ve never been good at reading how to do something technical, I need to see it while I do it, and I was utterly lost trying to figure out how to work my “new” (to me) camera. This has helped tremendously! I look forward to watching your other videos.

    Nice video. It goes into basic fundamentals of photography rather than just being strictly a camera overview. I have had the 6D for over a year now and definitely it is a cut above the 70D. Especially for still subjects, street photography and landscapes. And I did learn something from the 25 minutes that I viewed; exactly how to use the diopter...thanks! Oh, also need to mention I checked out the first few wanderlust travel videos and they are very well done!

    Nice job Tony, as always. I work with 6D like 3 years and I can easily take a ceremony with a sigma Art 35mm f1,4 in a very dark restaurant/room with almost no light on ISO 2500-3200 (downscaled to 1080 ofcourse) and the pics are clean sharp. My 7D has much better AF but who cares for landscapes or portraits? You are my favourite youtubers, and I really appreciate your patient and clean explanations. I alwasy wanted to ask what is Your background (education)? Do you have a teacher's degree?
    You are very lucky guy having such a pretty/smart wife/with such a sense of humour and nice fam. I wish You successfull new year and all the best from Budapest (Western Asia).
