Demonstrating the guitar emulation of the Motif Rack ES. Sequences can easily be manipulated to get totally different results of the same recorded material. Tons of fun!! Have to dig into it some more, I just got it yesterday but I'm already quite impressed by the great concept of this nice machine. Good pianos as well btw. The drums are also from the Motif, MPC only used for sequencing. Hope you found this interesting. Thanks!

Nice work. Just bought a motif es rack and am waiting for delivery. I can't wait to get into the guitar arpeggiators now. I have a MPC2500 too btw, should be a great combo.

even if the ergonomy of the rack is not as good as a motif ES itself, for sure!

Zum Motif: Genau, die insgesamt 1787 Arpeggios im Motif sind in 18 verschiedene Kategorien eingeteilt, speziell für Gitarre, Bass, Klavier usw. und beinhalten verschiedene Samples, die unterschiedliche Spieltechniken nachbilden, wie z.B. Strumming und Picking bei Gitarre. Es handelt sich also um vorarrangierte, komplexe Multisamples, die sich umschalten und flexibler handhaben lassen, als ein einzelnes Oneshot- oder Phrasesample.

@@flavatech5938 Hey thanks for the comment! I still have my AW but I haven't used it for many years because its fan is a bit noisy and it's more geared towards recording live instruments and I mostly use synthesizers. I thought about selling it but like you said, it's pretty amazing what it can do and they go for so cheap these days that I can't justify selling it. But I don't have the Waves card, I have it upgraded with 16 audio inputs, so 24 altogether. I don't know when I will use it again but it's a great machine!
Thanks for the nice comments! I think the RM1X looks like an excellent groovebox for someone starting to make music, especially if you want to have a sequencer for external gear, too. I couldn't really do a top 10 though, it all depends so much on what you want to do. The EMX is very limited but has an awesome sound imho. It somehow got me to do tracks in a different way and I like the workflow on it. It's kind of a weird challenge to do everything on the EMX for me at the moment. Cheers!
Thank you very much for the kind words! I am probably focusing a bit too much on the Korg EMX at the moment and my other gear is collecting dust. I somehow want to have that blue box mastered and its full potential unlocked before I start combining it with the other stuff. I can hardly believe it myself that I can't let go of this primitive stupid little blue monophonic joke of a sequencer EMX. ;)

Thanks for asking :) but this is actually not a real song, just a short demonstration on what that guitar emulation on the Motif ES sounds like. I'm concentrating on my singing at the moment so I haven't made any new songs for quite a while but you can watch me playing some of my songs on my RUclips channel. It's mostly Korg EMX stuff though...I also have a soundcloud channel which I haven't updated for quite some time but there are a couple of older songs there, too.

Zur AW4416: Hier gibt's so viel zu sagen... Geiler Mischer, bessere Wandler als im 02R, allerdings auch kürzere Fader. Die Inputs lassen sich nur auf insgesamt 16 erweitern, wenn Du zusätzlich die ADAT-Karte einbauen willst. 16 Spuren sind m.E. völlig ausreichend, weil man ja auch mehrere Inputs gruppiert auf eine Stereospur aufnimmt. Mich hat der Lüfter auf Dauer etwas gestört. Für Bandaufnahmen im Proberaum mit Schlagzeug usw. kein Problem, für Electro im eigenen Zimmer grenzwertig.

Für Gitarren und andere Instrumente, die gewisse Nebengeräusche produzieren, wie Schnarren, Klopfen, Flagolet-Obertöne usw. ist der Motif echt unglaublich. Dieses Klangverhalten mit Samples selbst zu erstellen wäre extrem zeitaufwändig und natürlich viel weniger spaßig. Bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Gerät. Danke für Deinen Kommentar!
Habe auch schon überlegt, den Lüfter auswechseln zu lassen, aber bin jetzt doch wieder bei einem Analogmischer gelandet, Mackie LM-3204 mit 32 Inputs. Mit HD-Recording ist jetzt allerdings auch nichts mehr, ich hoffe, ich werde die Entscheidung nicht bereuen. Noch habe ich die AW, wenn der Mackie mich nicht überzeugt, werde ich sie wohl umrüsten lassen und weiter benutzen, muss sich noch zeigen. Danke fürs Interesse und viele Grüße!
Maybe I didn't pick the best arpeggios for this demo. I still think it sounds pretty decent though. I think these kind of emulations should be used as accompaning elements, not so much to carry a whole track, then it's harder to tell that they're fake. Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
Also ich finde es lohnt sich, vor allem wenn man ein gutes Angebot auf dem Gebrauchtmarkt findet. Ich war gegenüber diesen ganzen Arpeggio-Geschichten a la Korg Karma eigentlich immer etwas skeptisch, aber für "synthetische" Gitarre geht es eigentlich gar nicht anders. Der Motif ES hat echt viele gute Sounds zu bieten, vor allem die E-Pianos sind mir sehr positiv aufgefallen. Grüße!

Sorry, aber ich weiß es selbst nicht so genau...habe das mehr so aus dem Bauch heraus gespielt, kann man aber vielleicht im Video nachvollziehen, was die Griffe sind. Vielen Dank für den netten Kommentar und viele Grüße!!

Ich habs jetzt nur so ausm Augenwinkel gesehen; Was sind das für Tabs beim Gitarrenpart? F#m, D, A, Gm, Db? Glaube ich zumindest - Ich finds stark, musste gleich mal selbst daran rumprobieren :)
The strumming chords sound very fake or cheesey. Perhaps it is that it is many of the identical waves playing at once, while a guitar has so much dynamic variation of the waves. If you rolled those chords it may sound a bit more like a strum. But after all, it is not the Roland Integra, I realize that.
You got lot's if toys there bud. Have you thought about doing a top 10 "budget gear" for an electro musician starting out?

Can you explain what you did at 4:37? I have the original rack and the only way to change the arps is with the scroll wheel. Looks like you just pressed the “next” button to change it. I know the ES has more arps than the original so I’m looking to pick one of those up.
Yes, in the ES you can assign five arps to the main page of a multi sound and switch between them using the page button which is quite convenient.
Just got Motif Rack XS today, but haven't yet figured out how to use arpeggios yet. Lot of this stuff seems hidden.
basspig press shift and arp buttons. Takes you to the arp screen.

basspig My apologies, I just noticed you said XS. Found this though. If an Arp isn't actually assigned to the current voice, or the wrong category type is assigned, you won't hear sound when the Arp Switch is engaged.
1) Select the Voice
2) Press the [Edit] button
3) Press the [F2] 'ARP MAIN' button
4) Select a 'Category'
*Note: Do not select 'CNTR' if you do you will get no sound when 'KeyMode' is set to 'sort or 'thru'
5) Select a 'Sub Category'
6) Select a 'Type'
Save your settings:
1) Press [Store] button
2) Press [Enter] button
3) Press [Inc/Yes] button

They are from the Motif Rack.
Do you record into a computer too, or only the hardware? I've considered doing that since my CPU (3.0 GHz Core Duo Intel) gets killed. Worried about effects processing and the cost of upgrading outboard gear over time.
I usually keep the computer completely out of the process and I don't even really use the AW-4416 (mixer in this vid) anymore. I'm now using a Mackie LM 3204 analog mixer and it sounds great. The AW is a good machine but it's more suitable for audio recordings in a band practice room or something like that. I do all the programming, mixing and mastering (more like limiting) in one go and then just record the finished result as a stereo track with my Q3-HD camera, either just audio or audio/video files for RUclips. I like to keep things simple and it's all MIDI based and easy to manage. I'm really not much of an engineer, I guess I'm just a musician basically and to me a good idea for an arrangement is a lot more important than perfect sound design. I've tried using software but somehow didn't like the workflow. Hardware works for me but that's a very individual point of view.
Ah, your goal is to record with the camera for you tube...so you just pass it through the mixer/limiter! Gotcha. Thanks for the reply!
E. Z. WestWell, my goal is to have fun making and recording music and not getting caught in complicated and sometimes unnecessary editing processes. Not saying that everyone who uses a computer and a daw has this problem, some of this stuff is brilliant, but when I tried it that way, in the end I couldn't even relate to the music I ended up with. What I meant to say about the camera is that you can make stereo recordings with this thing even when it doesn't record pictures. You can use its line input instead of the built in microphones and when you're doing a good mixing job on the MIDI level, you have a nice "master" stereo track just like you have after using a daw. I know I've still got a lot to learn. There's this guy called Mistabishi, he sometimes uses nothing but a Korg EMX making unbelievable stuff with this thing. That's where I'm trying to get with my music, not trying to sound like him of course. If you like dnb and some experimantal music, you'll like his channel, it's called mista bishi. Ja, ich hatte eine sechzehntel Quantisierung in der MPC eingeschaltet. Ansonsten beinhaltet natürlich auch jedes Arpeggio eine Art Quantisierung bzw. Groove. Ist irgendwie ein komisches Spielgefühl, wenn man auf diese Weise Phrasen spielt, sie aber jederzeit zwischendurch umgestalten kann und dadurch so eine Kombination aus vorgegebener und eigener Struktur entsteht. Auf jeden Fall ein interessantes Konzept und sicherlich einer der Hauptgründe für den Erfolg der Motif-Serie. Danke für Dein Interesse und den netten Kommentar, das freut mich! :)

Hello. Sir. I have a yamaha motif rack es. How do I turn on reverb on specific instruments in multi mode? I have read the manual but still no solution. Any pointers?
Harry Ferguson Yes, when coming from any other mode, pressing the MULTI button once the LED lights up green and the screen shows you the name of the multi patch along with the reverb and chorus type. You then press MULTI again to access multi edit mode, the LED lights up red and you see the voice numbers and the program change values (MSB and LSB) for all the different parts. Now press the right arrow page key twice to get to the screen you're looking for. The Motif lets you dial in individual send levels going to the reverb and chorus for each part. You can also set the amount of dry level and activate or deactivate an insert effect on this screen.
