As a translator, i find that no one really gives as much credit to the translators of these✨immaculate✨ pieces as they deserve:)
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for doing such hard and often delicate work! I've helped with adding and translating subtitles for youtubers before and it's much harder than it seems. You don't only translate the words themselves but you need to translate the emotional impact, the flourishes, the everything that entails that piece of art, whether that be a book or video or whatever. And don't even get me started on untranslatable idioms. Horrible. So thank you once again!
@@Lewisiaisoutofcontext Exactly!😁

I watched Leonie's video last month and it made a significant change in my reading journey. When I minimized my screen time, I actually realized how much time I have on my hands and it's quite a lot! Definitely recommend this challenge to everyone!
Japanese literature is so deep yet so easy to read. One of my favourite author is Jukio Mishima. Oh, Haruki Murakami as well. And their short novels are great too. 😊
currently reading 1q84 by murakami! i’m loving it so far!
I loved Convenience Store Woman, too. I am autistic and Keiko is "autistic-coded". Basically, I take the book as a big metaphor for how society will be able to notice you as Other no matter what you do or how hard you try to personality-mirror, and they will take advantage of you because of it. Keiko was highly qualified to be the manager, as is seen in every page and especially when she enters the other store at the end, and the book hinted twice at the fact that she asked for a salary in the past. "the manager made me realize my wages were designed to cover the cost of getting my body fit for work" or something like that, and this is repeated verbatim twice almost as if Keiko is parroting it back in her head to convince herself again. I think this means that Keiko asked for a raise (beyond deserved) at about the two year mark of working there and was denied. She took it is a definitive answer and did not try after that. This echoes her shutting down behavior after being denied and criticized for her behavior as a child. As an autistic person who has worked in food service jobs for over ten years (student now), a lot of this rang heartbreakingly true to me. You do the job so well, and its sense memories soak into your bones and your body and brain even when you aren't working, and you are still denied from growth within the company. I think the awful character of Shiraha was meant to show how little Keiko thought she deserved after being shocked to learn her behavior as a child wasn't appreciated and since she NEVER got the help she deserved, she shut down without further assistance and was in a long state of dissociation, a numb state of bliss in her little world of appointed importance of the store and her role in it. I think Shiraha is also meant to be a laughable extreme of shunning society, while Keiko is obviously embracing it with not enough authority questioning- the contrast feels very purposeful to me. This book made me a little annoyed because it showed a very stereotypical view of deadpan, robotic autism, and didn't show any of the complexities of autistic life. What were her hobbies? She really didn't care about the taste of food? This is really stereotypical and the perpetuation is harmful, but as I think the novel served as a metaphor that does shine a light on important things, I can let that slide a bit. Just to let you know- I am autistic and I am hyper-empathetic, have hobbies that fill me with joy, and squeal over seeing ducks in the park and love flavor in food. There are very colorful autistic people out there- we exist!!!
read books that rory gilmore reads (some of them because there are a lot)
I WAS GOING TO ASK FOR THIS OMG YES
Video idea? - “Getting over my big book fear by reading the longest book on my tbr”. This is something I used to struggle with but I find it’s easier now by reading a shorter book alongside the long one for when I feel overwhelmed, which helps me not to fall into a reading slump. Also, I fold down the corner of every 30 or 50 pages so I can physically see the small chunk I’ll be reading that day. Looking forward to the week in the life video though!
I RLLY WANNA BUY ANNA KARENINA BUT THE LENGTH MAKES ME WANT TO CRY😭 BUT THIS COMMENT MADE ME FEEL BETTER THO

Loveless was such a wonderful book and it helped me a lot. I’m currently questioning about whether I’m ace or not and I have to say, if I hadn’t read the book, I never would’ve thought to think of that.
i've been looking for myself lately in the a-spectrum so thanks for the recommendation!
Even tho I'm not in the ace or aro spectrum, I really really enjoyed loveless and I feel it made me more empathic towards my ace friends 10/10 would recommend just like every other book by Alice

That was an unexpected intro and I am not mad about it 😂
The toad in the hole doesn't *have* to be the best. Cooking is a skill, one that we get better at with practice. Nobody with very little experience at it can expect to be a gourmet chef. Just cook, enjoy what you make, and know that you will gradually get better at it. It's a process.
I love how the videos start with a bang straight away
I read Before coffee gets cold based on your TBR video a couple of weeks ago. I am not a fan of sci-fi type writing, yet somehow I read this book in one sitting (literally!). Thanks for your recommendation :)
If you love Japanese literature I would highly recommend The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide, I stopped reading for a number of years after my a levels, but this book helped me rediscover my love of reading, and as you said it takes normal mundane tasks and makes them just so inspiring and comforting to read
