@@inkllama5445 But getting his ass to activate it to make said soup. The way Ike DIDN'T activate Aether in my playthrough I basically had to order takeout.

This entire mission is notable because it's basically the only one-on-one duel in the entire franchise, with Mist basically just being there so that Ike can have an equivalent to BK's regeneration.
Iceaura39 Ryoma and Xander? Never heard of those two...or actually I think I remember a guy with Noodle hair who was pretty cool but yeah...don’t know who you’re talking about.

OmniHarrier Nope. When Aether procs, the Sol hit always comes 1st, then the Luna hit. In the time stamp I gave, Ike hit the 1st part of his Aether skill and got hp, then missed the 2nd part (Luna) of his attack.
When I saw the second Aether I thought: "Yes finish him fast!" Then the second attack missed and I thought: "That was so close." That actually reminds me of one of my playthroughs. I attacked the BK and I got Aether. Both hits landed. Enemy Phase. BK attacks. I land a second Aether and both attacks connect.
It's been several years since I have played this game and I still remember the feeling of satisfaction from killing the Black Knight. He is still my favorite Fire Emblem villain. The Ike games were the first Fire Emblem games they released in the U.S (or at least I am pretty sure they are) so they will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember how much I loved Ike, Soren, Brom, Haar, Giffca, and Tibarn. Soren was my favorite Fire Emblem character before Dimitri was released. I named my second D&D character after Soren.

Besides, those two games are the best of all of them.
as an outsider I can see why Ike is a favourite among the FE cast...I used to play super robot wars so I may not know the series but I know the gameplay well
I did the same what you did. My strategy was a bit different to yours. On my last playthrough, Ike was at level 18 with speed, defense and strength maxed out. In this chapter before black knight, I boosted him to level 20 during the chapter. On the black knight fight, The BK had one or two criticals on Ike. I had Mist to heal him with a mend (her magic stat was a bit low). Ike also defeated the Black Knight on the third turn.
yeah missing the luna part happened to me once then just to dump salt on the wound black knight did his own luna but added a critical hit to that as well, did not end well.
TFW 9/10 times the penultimate boss in these games is actually better than the final boss(mainly because the final boss can be one shot by the main character's weapon 9/10 times)
+rifasclub cause he starts fucking MOVING. I had NO IDEA he started moving when I played my second playthrough of PoR on Hard mode. The weapons of Genealogy give +10-20 on multiple stats. For example, Book of Naga gives +20 Skill, +20 Speed, +20 Defense and +20 Resistance to the Julia and it nulifies Julius' Loptyr ability.
First time I did this fight I didn't have Nihil equipped in addition to Aether. Didn't even think about it, was still a novice to Fire Emblem at the time. So he kept using Luna everytime and I didn't even activate Aether once. I ended up drawing with the Black Knight. If I ever play Path again I will beat him next time.
I played the 2nd version of this on Wii and it was said that the black Knight let him win this fight because he felt like Ike was still not there yet .
Beat this fight for the first time a couple days ago. On hard mode as well. My luck was crazy, I got luna'd like 4 or 5 times, none of them killing me but all of them scaring the crap out of me. It was getting close to the turn limit and I hadn't activated aether once. I was looking to use nasir and was going to reset if I didn't win, But on the end of turn six Ike finally activated aether and killed the black knight. It was Badass.
I deliberately dragged my feet during this fight. I knew that if i killed the Black Knight...... i would get Nasir and i am not happy for what he did regardless of the reasons. So i threw the fight so i could get Ena.
Nasir has more attack but he isn't a good attacker either. Actually it doesn't matter that much. They are both stone walls and they both do that just fine.
You have to respect that the Black Knight is not some cowardly foe. Despite his blessed armor making him damn near invincible, he deliberately handed Ike a sword that could break through and harm him in order to test his might and see who was strongest.

Agreed. Why did they make that lunatic playable in Radiant Dawn? And why couldn't we re-recruit the Black Knight? I just can't get enough of his awesome battle music.
Oh, there's no doubt she can surpass Nasir. But still, it's a lot of trouble to go through, and Nasir's already really strong by himself. Nine times out of ten, the best units are the ones that require very little effort to become strong. It's a bit like Pokémon, in that way.

ThatoneZeldaFan: He mentioned that he let Ike win in order for Ike to get stronger so he can actually have a challenge. What was the Japanese reason for his survival though?
+Sayem He survives. The Black Knight didn't die in the Castle Fall because his Blessed Armor protected him from the falling rubble. Ike couldn't land the Killing Blow because he knows that he can't deal much damage anyway.
