- What is it that marine biologists do during their expeditions? It´s very often that I get the reaction of "yeah right, you are going to work." whenever I say I´m going on a research cruise or any other kind of field work. It is in fact a very important part of a marine biologists work, so I explain a bit about it here. Hope you enjoy

Replace cruise with expedition and it won't sound as luxurious!
The Not Busy Life you are right. Maybe that would do the trick :) have to try calling it that way!
That's awesome news! Hope you will have an awesome time - it's hard work but it's so rewarding :D
Thank you! =) Definitely, even though I am always destroyed by the end of it I´m always looking forward for more :)
I really enjoy your videos! I'm a student at NOVA southeastern university. Im currently studying for marine biology. I've been a diver for almost 4 years so I have a little idea of what I'm getting into and I'm excited that I'm finally following my dream but at the same time I am terrified. Your videos give me some comforting insight. and for this, I thank you!
Ohhh Nova is my dream school! I'm starting out at Broward College, but Nova is my goal. How do you like it?!
@@danielleluna3123 unfortunately NOVA fell through for me.. I Cant afford it. I even got offered the Dean's scholarship. Still cant afford it. It was a amazing school though.
I am a Croatian guy considering marine biology, this was the push in the right time and in the right direction
Oh I love Austria! When I visited Innsbruck I went to a restaraunt and had the biggest piece of pizza while petting a stray dog that randomly came up and sat next to me 😂
Innsbruck is a really beautiful city, I don´t think I ever had pizza there though =P AAww dog
I so love you Miss Maria😍😍 I am a fresh graduate of BS Marine Biology here in the Philippines and I really wanted to be like you (vlogger + Marine Microbiology 😍😍) Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge lovely girl 😍😭😙😙
Thank you so much for the lovely comment. Go for it! I am looking forward to have a growing marine biology/vlogger community and you are definitely welcome :D
i totally understand, i used to work as a dive master, and once you've carried about 40 or 50 tanks back and forth between dive shops and boats, along with an addition of 65lbs of dive gear/per person, you are ready for a frosty tinny, and steak and fries, and some serious off-gassing; usually its a ham and cheese with a bit of lettuce, lol. but you are usually so hyped by your findings the only conversations you're having are about what you found and meals are something you do because protocol says you have too. i miss those days
Do you do any deep sea diving? Or just snorkelling kind of thing
Great video! Nice work... agree with the below, though. 'Cruise' has recreational connotations, so I wouldn't call what you do a Cruise at all! Mission; Expedition; Voyage; Project; Odyssey... but not a cruise! Keep up the great work! Subbed!
Hey I live in Croatia
And is sad to see that other people from other countries need to clean plastic. If people in my country were littel more considered our sea would been clean . Btw im from Split.
+3:22 lol that was so cool haha
Maria!!!
i like the thumbnail
I love your video:)
Congratulations! What will you be doing exactly and how will you be sampling?? I'm also going on a cruise this summer, but off the coast of East Greenland 😊 definitely not the same environment!
Plastics and some other deep sea samples, mainly water, and doing some experiments for some colleagues ;) Greenland must be amazing, I would love to go there!! I reckon you will also be collecting plastics no?
We will actually be "sampling" seabirds. I've been looking at plastic load in the diet of seabirds lately :) And I will also be helping colleagues with a lot of other sampling ;p
Muitos parabéns ! Aguardo pelos videos da pesquisa no cruzeiro! :P
So helpful! Sorry to bring you back to something from a year ago. I wanted to be a marine biologist since I was a child because I liked science, math, sea creatures, the ocean, physical rigor, and swimming, but the emphasis on lab work made me wonder if I would ever get to involve the last three likes! Quick question: How did you find out about the program between your school and Croatia? I'm from the US looking for masters programs and I just assumed that I was limited to schools along the coast.
Hi David. I did not find the cooperation. The group I work in already had a long lasting cooperation with an institute in Croatia. But tbh my research group works with the deep sea which means we have to go on long transects through different oceans. In the end it doesn´t really matter where the lab is located, but rather whether it has enough money to pay for the travel expenses to go on field work. I hope this helped ;)
Thanks so much! I also am interested in deep ocean because of how mysterious and unknown it is. Sounds like funding is what really matters. That helped a lot.
lol great vid.
Where can I find your course??
I wanna be a marine biologist because I love all the ideas of field work but what do you do during lab work? What’s it like? Statistical analysis seems standable but draining...
Statistical analysis is literally a bedrock of Biology unfortunately, you will not be able to get away from it. WIth a lot of my work for example I have to analyse variations in traits over differing sites so use a lot of ANOVA. Unfortunately you have to process all that data into something that can actually be analysed, and that means statistics.
As for lab work, it really depends what you do. Some areas of research will require a lot of it, others will require very little if any.
What is your institution?
Nice video I like your channel I'm a future marine bio
ScienceGirl05 55 Thank you very much! Happy to have you on board :) Good luck with your career!

You are so funny 😂
The one question I have is can you bring your significant other traveling with you or is it strictly scientists?
is that you little mermaid lol
😂🤣🤣
you have convinced me of not studying marine anything lol
Mach mal ein Video auf Deutsch
haha Ich glaube mein Deutsch ist leider nicht so gut 😊
will you be my gf?
So irritating. Cannot even watch any longer.
Well don't watch
