The Columbia bear suit! My son used to live in that when he was a baby (8 years ago). We bought a baby carrier similar to that one, but only used it a few times. Recently, we learned that one of our state parks has a baby carrier lending program! I love that families can hike with their babies without investing a ton of money into a baby backpack.
Breastfeeding was a huge help for early hiking, no bottles to carry. The hardest time for doing outdoorsy stuff is when they are toddlers. They don't want to be carried, and they can't really walk very far. Then you learn the Zen of just looking at nature wherever you are, even if you only go 10 feet!
I bring my Poco Plus when we go for walks in the woods. Mine loves being in the carrier, but wants to walk right out the gate (that fierce toddler independence). So, she's usually good for the first quarter/third of a mile, then up in the carrier she goes!
I had a stubborn toddler and it was hard to do anything like hiking. She was a wiggly grumpy little thing. Now she’s 19 and merely doesn’t “outside” for anyone. Yeah she makes it into a verb. It sure was fun to hike with a pre ambulatory baby!
I have no intention of hiking with a baby and don’t currently know anyone I would do that with but this was the absolute best! So fun to watch and totally useful if you were going to try it. Please make Jane a regular 😍
I’m so impressed! Babies and all their important gear can really add up in weight, and you’re such a champ. What a sweet little hiking companion with her tiny little paws though!! 😍
I used to hike with my son all the time, the other week he went on his very first backpacking trip with me! He is 3 and a half and he hiked it all himself. Sharing the outdoors with children is an awesome experience!
My Dad carried in me up and down Bear Mountain when I was ~12 months using a carrier that was probably nowhere near as well-designed as Miranda's. After watching this video I have a newfound truckload of respect for him and all hiking dads!!!
as father n grandpa, i loved this. with Irish twins, For awhile I had one in carrier and one on shoulders. Itbwas great training for my volunteer fire fighter job
Man, this video brings me back. I spent six years hiking with this exact pack carrying all three of my kids all over Minnesota. Such a great pack and so many great tips for parents here. So much fun and so many awesome memories!
This is a fundamental branch of wilderness skills that absolutely everyone seems to ignore, despite that fact that humans have had to do it for over 100,000 years. I honestly want to see the nest prepper/survivalist video that I see, go in this direction: "Bugging Out with a Baby."
Oh man baby Jane is too cute! We have the same carrier, and you'll totally understand now why my proudest hiking mom moment of the year was backpacking 20km overnight with our 18mth (30lb) son this past summer. The carrier definitely sits differently. Better get my legs prepared, as we anticipate a second little one in the Spring. Appreciate the as always informative and lighthearted content; follow-up overnighter with mom&dad?
The idea that a child carry pack “can” support 50 lbs was motivation to get our kids walking as soon as possible. If it meant shorter hikes, but they were walking, not being carried, it was a win (They self hiked their first backpacking trek at 3.5 years)
Hiking with my girls when they were babies is one of my favorite memories, and a fantastic bonding experience! They're older now, and still love hiking and the outdoors!
Thanks for this video. Im taking my 9 month old on a trip with lots of Hiking next month (our 1st holiday as a family of 3) I've got myself the Osprey Poco Plus and cant wait!
I'm so happy to see you do this! When we thought we had backpacking figured out, we had a kid and instantly felt like beginners again :) Somehow, it's both infinitely more challenging but infinitely more fulfilling for us. We love it!!
If you’ve never been hiking with a little one and then felt a “mystery wetness” on your back have you even hiked with a baby 😂 (my daughter spit up a lot!) Gross, yes, but those were the days. Also, that mirror is genius. I can’t believe I never thought of that! She’s absolutely adorable. Thanks for sharing her with us.
For you seniors out there (I’m not referring to your school grade level): As I get older (almost 70) I’m experiencing very painful leg cramps (Charlie horses) more frequently. When I discovered LMNT, I decided to give it a try. As long as I’m drinking a couple cups of water each day with the added LMNT packet, or half a packet, I will not have the leg cramps. Such a relief! And I love watching Miranda Goes Outside! ❤
So cool running into you on the hike (while carrying our own baby)! Agreed hiking with a Poco carrier and a nearly 20lb baby is quite a workout, but so fun to take the littles to all our favorite places. One thing I have found *incredibly* helpful in a way that I had not expected, is hiking poles! It really takes the load off from the pack, I definitely really appreciate it on the downhills just to have extra stability and I have noticed I can go quite a bit faster when I have the reassurance of the extra points of contact.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for this! My little is 8 mo (and over 20 lbs) and I’ve been nervous to get back out on trail. Parenting/hiking w/ baby hacks are just what I need to feel a bit more confident to get back out there.
Oh my goodness Miranda, I can hardly stand how cute you two are together!!! 😍 You did an awesome job. What a cool idea for a video! Her “paw” omg I died love it 🤣🤣
This brought back some good memories of when I did this with my son. It gets harder as they get older and start bouncing while you are carrying them. it is a great way to introduce a child to the outdoors.
My son is 34 now, but I used to hike with him in Colorado when he was a baby. It was great! Once they can walk, if you need to pee, use a child harness. He ran off while I was peeing and hid behind a tree. My heart stopped, I'm sure. Luckily he peaked out and I ran to get him.
I briefly had a hiking pack for my son... I remember my favorite feature about it was when I took it off, it doubled as a handy camp chair for him during meals. All things baby related seemed to evolve very quickly after I was done having babies. My sister got all the good gear when she started doing the camping/bad a** stuff with her babies.
We're way past the hiking with baby (and toddler and small kids) stage, and my teen now runs circles around me on trail- but man did this bring back memories of the sweet times with my babies in the woods.
SO CUTE! I hiked Chimney Rock with my 8 mon old in a front carrier. I have no idea what kind of supplies I took on that trip. That was MANY years ago. He's roughly your age, Miranda. HAhhha!
We used the Kid Comfort III for both our kids and 4 of our friend’s kids. That carrier really got around!! I second grabbing these pre loved- they hold up well. Loved it for hiking surely. But also trips to the aquarium (everything is up high), parades/festivals and even holiday shopping 🛍️ it just worked better for us in crowded spaces.
I legit just barely finished the intro and am cracking up because..yes to all of it. The squirming. The feeding struggle. The stuff. 😂 I'm a new mama and I'm excited to hike with my little goblin but ill probably wait until hes a smidge older for more than a short and easy day hike
OMG, so cute and as much as I love your typical stuff, as a mom I love seeing this and I hope you guys do more with Jayne or others! Especially toddlers and 5+. 10/10!
When I was doing my rim to rim hike of the grand canyon, I ran into someone using one of these for a day hike and was so impressed, both with the gear and someone carrying a baby on the North Kaibab Trail
Baby's and dogs are great judges of character, never trust anyone who makes a baby cry or a dog bark! Baby Jane was so relaxed and comfortable with you because she sensed what a trustworthy and caring person you are. I knew that already from all the videos that I've watched that you've made, but it's good to get it confirmed from such a beautiful, cute and discerning character as little Miss Jane.
Took my family across the Grand Canyon when my youngest was 3. Camped at North Rim, Cottonwood, Bright Angel, South Rim. My pack, with my son in it, was so heavy I needed help getting it on my back. Hiking poles helped immensely. Walked bent over for a few days after.
I remember the days of hiking with one baby on the back & one on front - an awesome workout! I miss that age but gosh it’s so nice that my kids are old enough to hike on their own!
I carried my kids in a pack like that and I really miss it now. They're definitely more fun as toddlers because they can see what you see and talk about it with you. I'm a big guy though so it was super easy for me to hike with 40lbs of kiddo on my back. The backpack was great for places like Woodland Park Zoo since they could see better than when they were in the stroller.
Try this again when the kids old enough to kick your sides and chant faster faster! It's an experience for sure. Side note those carriers are indestructible, mines been through two kids and still looks brand new.
Miranda, you are always so fun and playful but I have never seen you shine so bright as when you are with Jayne!!! Thank you for sharing your experience!!! As a mother of 3 sons and 3 daughters ranging from 16 to 4, I can tell you it just gets better and better!!❤❤❤
Please show more of this! I had (still have, lol) kids. I hired w a kid in the back and a baby in the front. Hard to imagine now! But breastfeeding def helps. It was all worth it! And so fun!Tiring and fun. They have such amazing gear now!
Just getting to the end of baby carrying as my son is too heavy for the poco now. For extra carrying space I used the loops on the poco to get the osprey daylite pack attached, even a short day hike for Dad and his 2 boys means too much food, water, spare clothes, etc. for the poco alone.
Awww! So sweet! I hiked all the time with both my babies when they were little, and it’s definitely a different kind of adventure. But it’s so good for baby and parents to get outside.
I have no intention of hiking with a baby and don’t currently know anyone I would do that with but this was the absolute best! So fun to watch and totally useful if you were going to try it. Please make Jane a regular
When they get older they like to lean to one side. I pack my almost three year old grandson and he refuses to stay in the middle. But the last time we hiked he didn’t ride any of the 2.5 miles! Perhaps the doughnut he consumed on the way to the trailhead had something to do with it. I recommend using trekking poles.
I don't have a baby, I am not sure if I will ever hike with a baby. So this topic in itself did not apply to me. Yet this is the coolest video!! Jayne is a pro already! What a sweet baby! I am finally hiking again after many years away. This channel is such an inspiration and so helpful and also super fun to follow. I may never backpack but I will check all your videos out! Learn something new every time.
We had the smaller size Poco (which really just limits the volume below the child carrier) when my kids were younger (now 4/8, but they each went through this pack growing up) - it's a great day pack that they were able to enjoy for hiking around Colorado. The dynamic weight of a tiny human is a bit more difficult, but well worth it!
Love that you did this. I’m a great grandma but always amazed when a mom hikes up with a baby on board to a spot that made me tired. You could tell you have limited baby experience but that made it even more fun to watch.
Great advice and thank you! My now 3 1/2 yr old never took to the pack. My 6 month old is almost strong enough for my pack, definitely will be using some of the tips from this video!
Baby Jayne is beyond adorable! 💖 And, kudos to the person who thought of this because there is zero info out there for new (grand)parents that want to enjoy the great outdoors with their (grand)children because we totally skipped it with our kids! Informative and entertaining! “I can’t believe I called her hand a paw” Miranda you’re the best, great job!
Miranda!! I loved this video SO MUCH!! Baby Jayne is amaaaazing and so good on the trail. Congrats Abby and Jimmie, A+ parenting 🤩🤩 - she's a gem. Awesome all of the explanation re the gear, i FOR SURE am going to take this info to see what i can try with my little one. you're not kidding that the pack is super heavy and bulky. we ended up choosing one solely based on weight because we knew we wouldn't be hiking a lot with our kiddo in bad weather until she was older. all of the fancy add ons are great, but yeah once the pack is 40-50lbs or more, it really really gets challenging.
Great video and really important topic. Just thinking of all the stuff we brought for pur daughters even just to go to the store, I really feel what you had!!
Hey Miranda! I live near-ish to Yosemite and I’m gathering gear to begin my new adventures as a brand new backpacker. Anyway, I’ve loved your videos (very helpful AND entertaining). So when you took your college roommate (2x) you asked if you should camp with other people. I say yay! Me. Camp with me. I’m close to perfect backpacking areas, I’m a newbie ready to learn AND I’m fun (only applies after morning coffee). Let me know…
I understand the struggle of having a baby on trail! We decided to wait a bit before going on big hikes. We stick to the small ones for now! The sleepy baby part was sooo ❤
I went backpacking with my 10 month old son. My stuff went in my backpack and baby went into a front pack which had clips so I could clip it to my backpack straps as well as the regular straps. The weight distribution was much easier. I have also baby-wrapped baby in first, then put on my backpack. Fuzzy onesie sleepers were lifesavers in keeping baby warm. Baby had his own tiny sleeping bag I had made myself. He used my 3/4 length thermarest. We coupled the thermarest to mine. I had a changing pad which was 1/2" foam covered in waterproof fabric which tri-folded. To keep him warm and dry; I made an insulated hooded waterproof baby wrap with a fleece inner layer. Washable, because baby messes happen.😂 I used cloth diapers, so brought a wet and dry bag. Deal with poop like you do your own; bury in cat hole. Of course carry out the dirty/wet diapers in the wet bag. Tactile toys and binkys a must. Babies love the outdoors believe it or not.😊
Consecutive Miranda Goes Outside!! videos without a burp: 0 (I was hoping we would get a special edition "baby burp" for this video when I saw the title)
I've always wanted to know what it would be like to haul a baby person around. Now I know. More importantly, I don't have to try it for myself thanks to your efforts. Thank you. 😊👍
The Columbia bear suit! My son used to live in that when he was a baby (8 years ago). We bought a baby carrier similar to that one, but only used it a few times. That’s awesome!

"I can't believe I called her hand a paw"
To be fair, she is dressed up like a little bear
I have no intention of hiking with a baby and don’t currently know anyone I would do that with but this was the absolute best! So fun to watch and totally useful if you were going to try it. Please make Jane a regular 😍

As a dad who is the baby carrier with our Osprey Poco, it’s nice to hear I’m not the only who struggling on the trail 😂
My Dad carried in me up and down Bear Mountain when I was ~12 months using a carrier that was probably nowhere near as well-designed as Miranda's. After watching this video I have a newfound truckload of respect for him and all hiking dads!!!
You’re def not the only one! We bought some trail majik for the badlands…it was nice but but the kids prefer the backpack carriers
Would you recommend a carrier like this for a 2yr old?
@Fevo-Fu my I used it even when he was 3, he would just nap 😂
as father n grandpa, i loved this. with Irish twins, For awhile I had one in carrier and one on shoulders. Itbwas great training for my volunteer fire fighter job

This is Jayne’s show gosh darn!! ♥️
Literally the cutest baby in the world right now.
Hiking with my girls when they were babies is one of my favorite memories, and a fantastic bonding experience! They're older now, and still love hiking and the outdoors!
But will Hyperlite or Zpacks, release an ultralight version of the baby to take backpacking, they have every other accessory in ultralight
This is Jayne’s show now
*GOSH DARN

One of the cutest videos I’ve watched!! You both are adorable.
Too perfect! I stopped everything I was doing just to watch how Jayne & Miranda were such great partners 🥰!
Time for another hike with Jayne??? ❤ :)@@MirandaGoesOutside
Omg! Thank you for this because I will be hiking with my baby very soon and I needed this. This is perfect!!
Yay!!! It was SO fun. The foam sleeping pad for diaper changes was key.
Thanks for this video. Im taking my 9 month old on a trip with lots of Hiking next month (our 1st holiday as a family of 3)
I've got myself the Osprey Poco Plus and cant wait!

Oh my goodness, what an adorable video. She is such a happy baby ❤️.
You’re always with a baby! 🪞
This has to be the sweetest most wholesome video on RUclips😊
“It’s a little mirror that lets me look behind me, like a backup camera!” Good that made me feel older than I am.
That was fun! Auntie Miranda did very well hiking with baby 😊
I call them paws too...what are we supposed to call them? 🐾😉
@MirandaGoesOutside_- Yay!

Miranda is the kind of aunt I aspire to be 😂
It shouldn't be any surprise, but Miranda's pure glee during the entire hike (while Jane was awake) is amazing
Low key in love with Miranda. Such fun content and she is just crazy likeable. I can see why her channel is so successful.
So cute. Makes me appreciate the Fight for Together family who completed a thru hike of the Appalachian Trails with a toddler in the carrier.

❤❤❤ love this cute content! Hopefully you can have more outdoor baby content with Pam’s baby!
Cuteness!!! Excellent video. What a cute baby. Great job Miranda and crew!
OMG, so cute and as much as I love your typical stuff, as a mom I love seeing this and I hope you guys do more with Jayne or others! Especially toddlers and 5+. 10/10!
Ah a cooperative kid😂 she is a delight! Yay Jayne! 🐻
I don't have kids and don't plan to any time soon but this was so interesting and fun to watch. Baby Jayne is a delight!

Super cute AND helpful! Miranda interacting with a baby is peak adorable.
Hello Jane, what a little sweetheart good job guys get her out in the wild early teacher how it is teacher to love the outdoors. Great job.❤
Wow! Too cool. Your curiosity is contagious. Everyone around you is always having so much fun! Keep up the great work 👍
You just make me smile. Thanks.
Try this again when the kids old enough to kick your sides and chant faster faster! It's an experience for sure. Side note those carriers are indestructible, mines been through two kids and still looks brand new.
My daughter started her hiking life in a baby backpack. She's now 23 and doing her own hikes
This is so adorable! I would watch this content all day ❤
You looked pretty comfortable with that baby Miranda!
the cutest video ever made anytime anywhere by anyone. pretty sure these two get the all time award for it.

Miranda you are a natural with the baby.. The backpack plus baby looks really heavy.. great fun video
This is the cutest video ever!
Awww! So sweet! I hiked all the time with both my babies when they were little, and it’s definitely a different kind of adventure. But it’s so good for baby and parents to get outside.
Great idea for a video. So cute!

Such a great idea to do hiking with a baby! Everything about this video was fun to watch, great work team.
This episode brought back memories of hiking with first our own children and then with grandchildren. ❤ It was fun watching 👀 this.

I love this video so much! I don't have a baby, but loved watching how cute this was!
Love that you did this. I’m a great grandma but always amazed when a mom hikes up with a baby on board to a spot that made me tired. You could tell you have limited baby experience but that made it even more fun to watch.

Most lovely baby in the world! This was an amazing experience ❤
My sons are now 38 and 26. Glad I know longer have to carry them around! Physically at least.
This video is so badass on so many levels thank you so much for doing this
Miranda!! I loved this video SO MUCH!! Baby Jayne is amaaaazing and so good on the trail. Congrats Abby and Jimmie, A+ parenting 🤩🤩 - she's a gem.

As the father of a 6mo and the husband of an avid hiker, this is the perfect video 🎉
I understand the struggle of having a baby on trail! We decided to wait a bit before going on big hikes. We stick to the small ones for now! The sleepy baby part was sooo ❤
Baby Jayne is the cutest darn baby. I wish I had been more of hiker when mine were wee. This is a great video!
She really is the most precious wee thing!!

Washable, because baby messes happen.😂
I used cloth diapers, so brought a wet and dry bag.

Quite a cool episode !
I'm surprised it's that much fun. Seems like a challenge for someone without any child.
best video ever!!!! you got good content😻
Too friggin’ cute! OMG insanely adorable, you two!
I've always wanted to know what it would be like to haul a baby person around. Now I know. More importantly, I don't have to try it for myself thanks to your efforts. Thank you. 😊👍
Sweet Jane was a champ! Auntie Miranda is BIG FUN!!
