I just bought an Alocasia Gray Dragon…..Maharani yesterday. Looking forward to parenting this beautiful plant. Thanks for all the info to help me do the job. Have a blessed day!
Congratulations! They are precious and unique plant creatures! I just purchased recently an alocasia azlanii in my last haul and am on the hunt for a cuprea and a dragon scales! It’s so easy to fall head over heels in love with them! They are just so fascinating! Thanks for watching, enjoy yours and HAPPY GROWING!
I ordered an alocasia maharani and it came yesterday, just beautiful. I was also in a local nursery last week and there was a baby black velvet one for 9.99!!! So I have two gorgeous velvety alocasias. They are so much prettier in person and what a cool texture!!
So happy you were able to get a maharani and the black velvet! They are both awesome and very unique in how they look....and 9.99 that is a steal!!! Congratulations and ENJOY!!!!
Cool Alocasia, I have a Cuprea and at first I was hesitant to get it because I thought it's so picky but it's giving me new leaf right now :) Thanks for the tips and advice and love your Gray Dragon
That is awesome!! I’m glad you took a chance on it. It definitely is one that is so worth having. It is on my wishlist and I am hoping to be able to get one soon! Thanks so much for watching and HAPPY GROWING my friend!
Alocasia silver dragon scale look so beautiful especially the shape of their leaves. I do have two kinds of alocasia but I would love to get one of this kind
Thank you!! Your voice is so soothing 🤣 I literally just got one of these yesterday for a STEAL. I have never been the biggest fan of alocasia but this was too stunning to pass up! Thanks for the great info #newsubscriber
Thank you! 😊 That is so awesome and major congratulations on your wonderful new addition! I love the jewel variety so much! They are so unique and simply out of this world! Best wishes and ENJOY!!!
That is such a beautiful plant and it is doing amazing. Thanks for all the great information about this plant.; I hope that your family and you are safe with everything that's going on. Stay blessed my friend☺👍❤.
It is such a wonderful plant and I am so happy to have gotten it. I am super excited to see the new baby dragons grow. I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well with them. I saw in one of your videos a cuprea, I believe, that looked so healthy and beautiful! That one is most definitely on my wishlist! We are all doing fine and of sound mind. I am also hoping that all is well on your end as well. Stay safe and blessed. Much love and big hugs to you!
I just picked up a very small (4 baby leaves) Alocasia Baginda (Silver Dragon) and I have it currently sitting under a 15w SANSI grow bulb, about 3 feet away. I live in the PNW and am worried that it won't get enough light in the coming winter months. When I purchased the plant, each of the leaves had slightly brown or yellow tips. The newest leave has yet to do this, and I'd like to prevent it from happening with any leaves to come. Any and all advice is welcome. I paid a fair amount for this little dude (hard to find in my area) and I'm very proud of it. I'd like to keep it happy and healthy for as long as possible.
alocasia don't like any direct light anytime of the day, so grow lights aren't necessary. They thrive below forests' surface getting only few lights through tree canopies. They're also native of indonesia, so they love warm and humid environment. Just try to imitate that environment.
@@TrisTan-wo7tf I should mention then that what you're saying goes against everything I've read about 'care-wise' for this specific type of alocasia. I've read that the baginda actually prefers somewhat bright indirect light as well as the warm/humid conditions.
Indirect light is good for the plant but direct sunlight can burn the plant if the light is too intense. Artificial lighting can help it thrive during the winter months but I would be cautious on how much light or how close you keep to your light system. To avoid browning or crisping of the leaves, I would recommend a humidity tray, spraying the leaves with water throughout the day or getting a humidifier to keep humidity in the air. Congratulations on your new addition and I am hoping it grows beautifully for you. HAPPY GROWING! 🤗
@@PictureMaria1 As I mentioned in my first comment, the artificial grow bulb is only 15w and is a highly vented SANSI bulb (so heat dissipation is really good, no overheating plants here) and it's also about 3 feet away from the plant which is right at the high end of the recommended 'distance from plant' by the manufacturer. It's situated in a way that the only real sunlight it gets is very indirect during the day, and in the evening slightly more direct from a west facing window. It's mottled by both a tree outside as well as my blinds, so as to avoid direct contact and burning. I also have a humidifier and keep my room around 65-75°F and about 60-70% relative humidity. Hope this info helps clear up any concern. I'll take any additional tips you may have though! Thank you for your advice, I look forward to watching this thing thrive as it's certainly going to be one of the most beautiful plants I own. Edit: I should also mention that the light is on a timer set for 14 hours on, 10 hours off. I'm doing my best to keep the plant from going dormant during the coming winter months.
IT IS AN AWESOME AND AMAZING PLANT! Such a unique and very unusual looking creature. That is why I love it so much! I do hope that you get one too. It is definitely one that is going to stand out from the rest of your collection. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!
@@PictureMaria1 hello again hope all is well your way, my plant arrived it is healthy still holding my breath on its acclamation to her new home but for the amount I paid disappointed in her size .
They are so amazing. I have many on wishlist and I am on the hunt for them now!!! LOL! What ones do you have thus far. I only have the Gray Dragon and The Black Velvet.
Hi I’m a new subscriber! I just bought this today and I’m keeping it inside the house. I have a LED grow light in my living room. How long do you think I should keep my led light on for this plant? Thank you in advance!!
Thanks so much! It's a lot of hard work but the results are so well worth it! Thanks so much for watching all the way from Germany! Sending you much love and big hugs from Florida! HAPPY GROWING!
They are the coolest!!! I am on a wild hunt to get more types...it’s just been pretty difficult finding them for a decent price. They can be rather pricey. But I am on a mission. Congratulations on ordering one and I am sure you will be amazed by it. HAPPY GROWING.
This is one of my favorite plants too! I noticed that you live nearby me. I’m near legoland. Do you sell any of your plants? Or trade? Or have a shop? You have a beautiful collection!
Thank you. I do sell from time to time and I do a lot of trades. If you are on Instagram you can connect with me there. I am under MyTropicalPlantAdventures. I am currently looking for a Florida Beauty, Syngoniums Albo Variegata, Thai Pink Splash...to mention a few.
@@PictureMaria1 sadly I do not have an Instagram, but! I just so happen to have a beautiful Albo Syngonium vine I’ve been contemplating doing a top cutting of! If you would like a pic, my email is lynsiarndt@gmail.com!😁
Thanks for the tips! I just recently bought my first Alocasia and it is the Black Velvet! I hope it will be as beautiful as your Gray Dragon. Any advice since it started to have brown tips? I placed it inside my room near the windowsill unfortunately, I do not have a humidifier. Thanks!
I just got this lovely grey plant yesterday and im so nervous! I got a black velvet about a week ago and so fsr the leaf it had when i got it has unfurled! I will likely get myself a water gauge to measure how wet the plant is because im so scared to under water or over water the plant. 😂 im used to plants telling me what they want
MAJOR CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!! They are such awesome and wonderful plant creatures. The Grey Dragon is considered a very fast grower and given the optimal care it can actually produce a leaf every week! Mine doesn't grow that fast but it has been a hardy grower still. I've also just got some black velvets and I love them so much. Unlike other alocasias these can appreciate a little bit of drier conditions...I keep mine evenly moist just not drenched like my other alocasias that are such heavy drinkers but I never let them go completely dry.
@@PictureMaria1 okay awesome this was a big help! mine eill be getting east lighting, what kind do yours recieve. they are def happy about the humidity going on in my house with the heat wave weve got in haha
Hi! I literally just received this plant as a birthday gift 2 days ago..and I haven’t touched it except for insect inspection since I like to put my plants in isolation for awhile if it’s shipped to me and I noticed today that the leaves are curling downwards :( can you please advice on what to do
Usually it means that it needs to be watered. At least that’s what it has meant with mine. Happy belated birthday and enjoy your awesome birthday gift! 🎉🎉🎉
I’m such an idiot. Here’s a funny story. So today I ordered one of these not knowing it’s also called grey dragon. So I though “hmm, looks similar to a dragon...which I absolutely need!” So I scoured the internet today searching for a black dragon for sale. Of course can’t find anything in the US in my budget. And here I learn, I did buy a dragon. Just not a black one. I’m a noob. 🙈
HA HA HA!!! Well welcome to the Dragon Club!!! I hope you love the grey dragon just as much as I do. It is one of the most incredible looking alocasias I have ever seen and the texture is to die for!!! I am excited for you! When you get it let me know what you think of it. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!
I am so sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what is going on with your particular plant but usually when a plant starts yellowing at the tips it is an indication that either the plant is not getting the humidity that it needs, is reacting to a type or amount of fertilizer that is being given to the plant or is reacting to over or under watering the plant. Also make sure that you are not giving the plant too much light as well. I would check my plant and first ensure that there are no bugs that could be possibly sucking the juices out of your plant. I would also check the roots to make sure that the plant is intact and there are no rotting issues...and if everything is okay I would start doing a process of elimination of what other things could be going on with it and tackle it from there. I am keeping my fingers crossed that you are able to figure out what is going on and you can rectify it so that it can grow happy and healthy for you. Best wishes.
I just got mine a few weeks ago and she is so sad now 😭 slowly started to yellow and loose it’s grey color. I have a humidifier running at 60%.. and have a big east facing window... Could be the 70ish temp or my soil. I tried to do 50/50 pearlite/soil. I hope I can save her! This happened to my last alocasia too :(
I am so sorry to hear about your grey dragon! I am not sure what could be causing it to die back. It should do well in the conditions you are keeping it. I keep mine evenly moist at all times and I don't allow it to completely dry out and it does well. Sometimes know that our plants can come to us already sickly. Also the roots or the bulb may be infected or perhaps rotting. If it is you should completely take your plant out of the soil, sanitize the entire plant with peroxide or other disinfectant and then repot it in new potting media. You should also check very closely (if you haven't already) to ensure that there are no critters trying to suck the life out of your plant. Were you able to check beneath the surface of the media to see what was going on. I am hoping you are able to save it too! Please keep me posted on what transpires.
