lol I’m commenting a year later... I find them too long as well but what I do is I speed up the video, at 1.25 I still perfectly understand her. Try it! 😜
This is so interesting to watch 4 years later. This has changed so much since. Now im on my way to see if you have an updated Alocasia index. They have to be my favorite type!
This is a really fun series. Length is about right but I would certainly watch longer videos. Appreciate the time and research you have done. Would like to see an index on calatheas/marantas. Or sansevieria. Actually, you could probably do an index on rare algae and I would certainly watch it. Thanks for great info!
Can you believe that 2 weeks ago I found a beautiful Alocasia odora variegata and the seller had no clue it was a rare plant? She was just selling it as a Caladium. Well, it's beautiful in my balcony now, and I JUST found out she's putting off a new leaf. Yeah!
Yes many plant sellers are not professional sellers they just get hired and train, they are in it for the money and not plant dedication or love, that is why they overwater plants. Smart!!!!!! Wish you and your plant baby the best, you were so lucky!!!!!
I just bought a huge Alocasia Odora Maui Splash for cheap. When I got there to pick her up. I couldn’t believe she was selling this beauty and no one had grabbed it before me! She was for me! Mines looks yours but she is green yellow lime green all in one. I have her on my page
I’m trying to understand the liking in Hoyas. I’m new to this hobby so don’t know a whole lot yet but they seem pretty basic to me and are incredibly over priced IMO
@@andrewwilson2705 they are ridiculous overhype, I own one and I don’t like it, they are slow growers and the foliage reminds me of a succulent which I’m not a fan
I LOVE what you’re doing with this “rare index” series. I watched the video and got all excited and then I watched it again and paused at many of the plants so I could try to find them. The graphic leaves with contrasting veins drive me crazy (in a good way). I’ve got to get them some how some way! Please make the videos as long as necessary because I am drinking them in. I can hardly wait for the calathia version, I’ll be over the moon. Thanks a million for all of the time and research you are investing for these videos. I’m so tickled that I found your channel. Well done!
Thank You! Don't worry I will literally so this series until there are no plants left Lol! I plan on visiting Philodendron again too as I covered like 26 out of 400 of them LOL 😂
Actually in EU Zebrina is pretty common along with Polly and Stingray, at least I think so, since plant shops and online stores mostly offer those, but it doesn't matter much, they are f*in beautiful! I have Cuprea and Zebrina, and yes I definitely can see Cuprea growing on some other planet in background of xenomorphs. Stunning and actually easy plant, she forgives me some neglecting with no hard feelings.
Yesssss - I've been waiting for this, haha. I love alocasia plants. So far I have a silver dragon, a red secret/cuprea and a dark green alocasia (dragon scale). The cuprea alocasia starts out with greenish leaves and then go to a burgundy silver like leaf. I adore it! I would love to get my hands on a black velvet alocasia!
I just bought my first alocasia and I was rewatching your videos. I forgot that alocasia zebrina was considered a rare plant 3 years ago and you now can see them even in Aldi 😅
Harold Selim does anyone sells them in nursery or stores? i mean here ib Philippines. i see some everywhere but i can't seem to find them for sale. i am thinking of buying 'gabi' and plant them myself XD i badly want one they are reaally an amzaing and beautiful plants. i love their massive leaves tbh.
This plant Group is one of my Absolute Favorites. There is something about the leaves and the fast growth that bring me so much joy... I just ordered 5 more types to add to my garden this spring... not sure where they will go during the winter... A labour of love for sure :)

i'll add that colocasia and alocasia have shallow root systems usually never deeper than the bottom of the tuber, they prefer a very wide top portion of the pot and the soil should be layered with high nutrient water holding organic matter for the top 2/3 with high draining soil for the bottom 1/3 (think sand or perlite majority).
A. lauterbachiana -- I recently got a starter of this, and the hybrid "Polly" from Gabriella Plants in USA. A. lauterbachiana can grow leaves up to three feet (1m.) long in good, humid conditions.

New Subbie, I just found you. I just purchased my 2nd online plant ever, an Alocasia Black Velvet. My first one was a chocolate orchid (blooms actually smell like chocolate) supposedly. I bought it for my mother and it hasn't yet bloomed. It was just a tiny baby when it was mailed to her. Hopefully it will bloom next year, 2 years later. Anywho, enough blabbering 🤣. That alocasia dragon scale is now number one on my list of dream plants. Unfortunately I’m having a hell of a time finding it in the US- I couldn’t only find ONE online and it’s over $100! Guess I’ll have to keep a super close eye out and keep my fingers crossed.
I just purchased an alocasia dragon scale, a pink dragon and a black velvet. I am so in looove with them! And they were all less than 20€ each! I also got a philodendron Florida ghost because of how beautiful yours is 🙈❤️

Very nice and informative video. I really like these series and the length is perfect. To be honest it's so interesting that i didn't notice how long it was . I look forward to your next video. Oh by the way I have one of those Alocatia cubra Red which is in fact dark magenta and I love it. Thanks for sharing.
After watching this I could say alocasias are south east asian countries' very own rare plants for most western countries. Most of the plants featured here could be easily found in any of our local plant shops or nurseries in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. U could get them for as low as 5USD. The only thing i haven't seen in person included in the list is the red cuprea. The green version is more common. Otherwise, almost all of them are easy to find in our plant shops here. My favorite Alocasia Tigrina is not on the list so I suppose it's not rare.
As a raw beginner one of the first houseplants I bought, as a tube stock plant, was Alocasia Pink Dragon. I immediately gave it a thorough shower bath of tap water then potted it up to a 4" pot in premium grade potting mix. It lost one leaf then another. Considering it only had 4 leaves to begin with it is now surviving with two leaves which surprisingly look healthy...So, in my experience, Alocasia Pink Dragon can survive ignorant tough love...to be continued...
Please do not make your vids shorter! I love this series. I sit with a note pad and my wish list has become significantly longer lol. ❤

Love these videos! And wow.... that Loco! Also, the timing is fine and longer would be great too!
Thank You :) I got one of those massive Alocasia's... and she's got 3 babies.... :) I am blessed.
I am here because of how hard Jenna was fan girling.
the dinks are here
The Alocasia pink dragon and Alocasia frydek had been on my wishlist for a while and this video made me buy them, no regrets at all
I love your Rare Plant Index. Looking forward to see your next one.
I have an amazonica, a zebrina, a cuprea, a stingray and a lauterbachiana. And today I ordered a pink dragon. I love all of them!
