- My big ass Silver Dragon needed a repot, so I decided to record it for you guys and give you a brief overview of how I take care of this alocasia, and my others!
Hope you like it!
could you do a video on potting up the bulbs please! that would be so helpful
I know your comment was a year ago, but maybe this will help someone else who sees.
I have a bunch of alocasias and I have always found the best way to grow the bulbs it to just let them grow with the mother plant, then when they are a few inches tall/have a few leaves and roots of their own, repot them into an appropriate sized pot. This is how I propagate all of my alocasias and monsteras as well.
If you would still prefer to plant the bulbs you can use the same type of soil mix and place them ~3-4 inches deep, keeping the soil slightly moist but not soaked.
@@RocketKira thank you so much for replying that really helps me!!!
Those "bulbs" are actually called a corm. This is a very beautiful silver dragon, so if keeping your soil moist works for you, that's great, all of my corms in moisture like that tend to rot. They grow with my Pink Dragons also. Those are some healthy leaves and lots of corms.
Just got my first silver dragon, found this video, just subscribed and now going to binge watch all your videos! This one is extremely helpful.
I just found your channel and I love it!! Please keep making videos
Thank you for that lovely comment. I took a slight hiatus but i am trying to get back again! How is your dragon scale doing??
Did you ever try the moss on the bottom? Did it work for you?
Hi you guys. New to the channel. Got my first SILVER DRAGON. SUPER STOKED.
May i know whether your alocasia is doing well after this repotting? As far as i know, all the leaves will drop off once u touched the root..
Alocasia are very forgiving, and you can chop those really long roots off, as long as it's going into a well draining soil and you're not over watering.
You're not crazy giving your plant supplemental light. It's something everyone that lives in cooler climates should do. They are tropical plants and require 12 hours of light, the LED lights also create a little heat which the plants also love.
Amazing video!! I envy your silver dragon!! Quick question, I tried using the sphagnum moss method for my alocasias, but the amount of fungus gnats were insane. How do you prevent that?
I was getting second hand excitement watching you find the bulbs 🤣
Gonna try the spagnum moss with my alocasias! Thanks for the tips!
What a beautiful dragon! What kind of grow lights do you use and how far from the lights does she live? Thank you so much for the great video! I hope my dragons get to be as beautiful as yours 🥰
My local nursery just got some 4" ones for $30, so I'm preemptively researching before I pick up my new baby in the morning!!! I'm super excited about this video and was curious about how to propagate it once bigger!! Thank you for this helpful video!!
I was gifted one of these beauties yesterday! One wonky leaf, one gorgeous leaf and one growing in! I'm so excited and I'm hoping it will thrive. :) This video is full of useful info! Thank you so much. Subbed!
I really loved your video and was sad to see there's not much on the channel....
Would love to hear about any maintanace care for your Alocasias. I'm in a constant battle with spidermites on these guys....
Hey Natalia, thanks for the lovely comment. I took a bit of a hiatus, but am trying to get back into things now! Spider mites are right little so and sos. Spraying regularly with a neem oil solution seems to be helpful in my experience!
Natalia, I keep mine outside and the natural predators eat them. Hope you can do that
This was so informative! I also have a Alocasia Silver dragon and your video helped me a lot with repotting, so thank you 🤗 Please make more videos like this one 💚
Excellent video since I am looking to purchase Alocasia Silver dragon or Dragon scale or cuprea. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Don’t suppose you’re selling any of the bulbs?🥺👉👈
What pest pill do you have in your soil and what pests does it help against?
I just go a Silver Dragon 💕🐝 Im so happy I found
you!
Your baby is so beautiful. I ordered my and I’m so excited.
We just got ours so excited!!
I just got this one and I am in awe of this. It’s so beautiful!!
And yours looks gorgeous by the way!!
Hello, this video is 3 years old. I just bought a silver dragon today, I wanted to ask if there is anything you do differently now compared to then? Thanks 😊
This is on my wishlist & the cuprea. Great video, can't wait for more videos 😀
Thank you so much! Hope you find them soon 🥰
Happy to find your channel, 😍 so informative and very helpful,
🙏🙏🙏 thankyou for sharing your alocasia experience.
This video is so helpful, id love to see more on your channel such as how you grow the bulbs!
Oh no! I didn’t know that bulb was another plant!!!!! I repotted mine I got as a gift and thought I broke off something I shouldn’t have and threw the bulb away 😭😭😭😭 She is not looking so good right now so I am seeking all the videos.
I see that most of the leaves have yellow tips. I noticed my baby alocasia amazonica I grew from corms also have these. Do you know why this is, and how to prevent it?
Thanks!
I got my hands on one a couple of weeks ago. I really did my research and tried to do everything correctly. It is sitting on an east facing window on a pebbles tray with water, I also spritz it with water two times a day, the soil is moist - not soggy. And still - the plant has started dropping her leaves like crazy. I seem to have absolutely no luck with alocasias :(
Usually I find when it says keep the soil moist I let it dry out a little bit in-between watering
Love the vid! Currently waiting for my silver dragon to arrive🥰🙏 Already have the normal dragon scale but it’s super drawn to getting pests🥵 Anyone got experience on that matter? Would appreciate any help ❤️
It's so PRETTY! I have one it is a baby with 4 little leaves. I hope mine gets big
Lovely video and amazing dragon scale! Mine just keeps getting these ugly yellow spots , can't seem to figure out what's wrong :(
How did you pot the bulbs?
Cute video!! Just ordered a new Alocasia Silver Dragon 🐉
Can I repot my silver dragon alocasia in monsoon as its soil is very mushy as I brought it from store
What is the cause of those yellow tips? Mine are doing the same thing.
Is the yellowing on the tips related to the high humidity in the soil? Thanks.
Your silver dragon is so gorgeous! I just got one of these from NSE Tropicals. I'm a bit new to alocasias and didn't know you could find bulbs like that in the soil. My alocasia maharani just flowered. Do you do anything special when your alocasias flower?
Absolutely gorgeous 😍 plant. I finally figured out how to take care of an alocasia poly that came to me after Mom passed away. It lost all but 1 leaf. I planted it in a self watering system with pumice and it is on happy so I got brave and just purchased an alocasia maharani . If I can keep this alive for 6 months I would love to get 1 of the dragon scale alocasia. I love the tip about the Sphagnum moss. I propagate in it and do well. I going to try some in the bottom of my calathea magic star.
Hi I got this plant today it’s so beautiful 😻 could u plz tell which fertilizer to use .thanks
This plant is so beautiful, struggling to find one in my area 😩
Just when I thought I was done shopping plants for the season...are you using tap water, or distilled/rain water for yours?
@11:27 So relatable, this is me pretty much every day XD
Hi! I got an alocasie silver dragon from my boyfriend in a 6cm pot, can I replant it into a 11cm pot or will it be too big? :)
What a nice gift from your boyfriend. It depends on the plant and the roots. You can send me some pictures if you are on Instagram at fertiliserqueen but overall alocasia don't mind being a bit tight so probably doesn't need to be repot yet
hi! love your channel! how do you pot the bulbs?
Nice. I just got my A. Maharani & Frydek delivered today 💚🌿
Ah thats so exciting! How are they doing now??
OMG, I love that plant very much!
Awe she’s cute .... the plant too 💚
Awh youre so cute thank you!!!!
So I just reported my silver dragon alocasia bc he was in a smAll pot he outgrew and I noticed the soil was compacting. After repotting he went into shock somewhat and the leaves are curling /: what do I do?!
Just got my first silver dragon, found this video. Love all the information! Just subscribed and will binge watch your videos. Perfect for a Friday night with a beer :)
Did you collect the corms
What garlic oil pleas3
what do the bulbs mean?
This plant is breathtaking!
How much soap and how much water I was giving this plant for mother's Day it's gorgeous thank you so much
You are hilarious, I'm from 🇨🇦 and am getting my first Silver Dragon on Friday. Can you tell me how to make your need oil solution & when you spray do you leave it on or do you wash it off after a bit. Also what kind of garlic oil are you giving your plant
Love this! I have several different alocasias, and I attempt to make sure all my plants are in the most similar conditions possible to those that they would be in naturally. Alocasias are more tropical, and most grow on river banks and in swamps, so they do need more moist environments. I'm with you on this, I've seen people with dry dry soil and I think it's crazy those plants survive, but it is possible to acclimate plants to different environments. I keep most of mine double potted and always have water in the bottom. Never have issues with root rot and as long as I continue to bottom water and don't pour water on top I don't have any problems with fungus.
The leaves are raised. If brail was a plant the silver dragon would be it. The leaves are very much perforated. They are a pleasure to touch.
What are those things you place in the soil to prevent bugs?
Pokon bug pills, not sure what they are called exactly as i stopped using them due to the smell haha
Are those bulbs how you propagate? I've never propagated a plant that doesn't use cuttings
Just got my first dragon scale, do they need a higher humidity?
I’ve never seen anyone smack their plants before lol! Love your video
I would love an update on your silver dragon.
does you silver dragon flowered!?
Parabéns por esse belíssimo e que Deus te abençoe
Is here anyone's interest in Indonesian flowering plants?
I'm seeing that they don't sell this in the US unfortunately
Do black velvets also have bulbs like this?
Yep! All Alocasia do!
why do you put sphagnum moss in the bottom of the pot?
very helpful video, thank you!
How do you plant up the small bulbs?
I pot them into a shallow plastic tub with some nice airy soil with holes ive poked in the bottom, a few cm under the soil, about a finger underneath, I keep the soil lightly moist and wait until they grow. It can take quite a while for them to get going!
Do you spray the sphagnum to keep it moist?
help please - i accidentally broke a leaf clean off the petiole while moving my silver dragon =(
should i leave the petiole or cut it off at the stem? thanks!
Probably cut it off, I don’t think keeping it on would help the plant at all. Cutting it off should allow the plant to put more energy into new leaf growth.
I’m trying to moist moss method you did! 😍
Hello fellow plant RUclipsr! Where are you from? I can’t place your accent 🥰
Ireland!
I also have a half wall in my apartment! I’m so happy I came across your channel 🙏🏼
Hey so mine was in a glass terrarium and in sphagnum but the leaves started to turn into water and die but i haven't watered it in days is it too moist?
It sounds like it. But im not sure what you mean by turn into water. Could you send me a picture on Instagram?? How wet is your moss?
Will love to see a tour of your ikea shelf
so beautiful..
Thank you so much
love it
Where did you get the bulbs from? I’d love to grown one from a bulb 🥰🥰
The original plant i bought as a small 2 leaf plant with one on the way, and it provided me with plenty of little babies since. You could reach out to someone with a silver dragon and see it they have a bulb for sale 😇
@@fertiliserqueen5365 what did you do with bulbs? Do you just plant them in the soil again?
Whats that plant in the bottom right
Hey Corey, it's an anthurium radicans x desserli. You can see if on my Instagram :)
@@fertiliserqueen5365 that thing is huge i thought maybe that's what it was but I never seen one that big before
Neither have I, I had no idea what I would be getting i was shocked when I opened the box haha 😆
Could you pls share what’s in ur potting mix and what fertilizers do u use for ur dragon scale ?
My potting mix tends to vary a bit from plant to plant, but consists of orchid bark, soil, coco coir and perlite, I use liquid gold leaf with all my plants and can't recommend it enough!
Did you ever go over the light and humidity requirements? I kept waiting for it but i never got to it 😄 maybe next time have an outline of what you will be going through ☺️
I notice you put sphagnum moss underneath the pot and not ontop the soil? Is there a reason for that?
When u spray the need oil solution, do u rinse it off after wards or leave it on.?
What do you wet the sphagnum with? Just water?
James (sluggplants) sent me to you. Nice channel. Looking forward to more!
Ah yay! Thanks James! Hes the best isnt he?
