A: I eat like this for 1 hour of a 168 hour long week. In simple terms, I eat at caloric maintenance over the course of time, meaning I don’t gain weight. If you're interested in learning more, see the ‘But How Come You're Not Fat' and 'It Was Just A Normal Day...' videos available on my channel.
Q: Don’t you worry about your health?
A: Not in particular. I’m active. I eat nutrient dense foods five days a week. And, I get quarterly bloods done, amongst other health checks.

Don't ever be worried about being in the south. Especially in small towns. They will always remember and tell the story of "Some dude from England came in here, ate it all, then left" for the next 50 years. You'll be a legend there for decades.

Considering the fact that they remembered the first guy who finished it by full name and how another guy came close but failed it specifically because of the soggy bread, they'll definitely remember you as the legends who beat it in half the time.

The soggy bread is a filler ingredient, similar to bread in turkey stuffing, which is intended to add bulk to the dish (usually because you're feeding a large number of people, but in this case because they're feeding large people).

So true, Beard-O! We call them "dives" here, and the "dive-ier" they are, the better the food. I used to go to a dive called the Hungry Bull, about the size of a broom closet. The lady cooking always had a cigarette hanging out of the corner of her mouth, ashes dangling over the food, but she made the best omelets in the world. Never judge a book by its cover!

Dude,I used to live 2 miles from that place. As a matter of fact you drove right past my house on the way there......crazy seeing it on RUclips. It is some great BBQ for sure!!! I Miss it out here in Arizona. Good job on finishing it.

Just seen this message, I do miss my Alabama bbq but do love the Mexican food out here. I haven't tried that place but its only 20 away so I will give it a try tomorrow. Stay tuned for the results lol and thanks for the tip.

13th Street BBQ gets many of their items from a place that I work for... I can tell you that you ate quality food from a place that has very high standards... Congratulations !

I laughed a bit when you said the inside of the restaurant looked a bit shady because when I saw it I was like 'yeah, the food here is gonna be great. That decor signals greatness.'

Couldn't agree more ! The fancier a place looks the smaller (and more expensive) the portions are. I'm a working man, I'm blessed with an healthy appetite - so I frequent a few grub shacks on my way home from work. And not a single time in 15 years have I been disappointed by either the quality or quantity of the food. Become a regular and friend of the chef and you are set for as long as the place is open. Love the people there, love the chow.
Note of the outsider: if you EVER find a BBQ place like this in a small town, go there. It'll blow your mind with how good the food it.

Went to grad school at Columbus State (don't live in GA anymore), but instantly recognized the highway and then paused it and I'm like YUP, he's taking 80 west right towards AL!

I've had some great food from restaurants that look like they're in a shack. It seems to be especially true for BBQ and burger joints.
You have to figure, if no one is coming for the ambiance, then the food must be a real draw.
@@gaspainsify best burger I ever had was from a super sketchy "restaurant" that was just a few grills inside what was previously a really old gas station. Half the floor was dirt and the products on the store side were older than I am. Best damn burger I ever tasted though.

An indicator would be that the shop is old which means theyve been there a logn time. It only makes sense but damn im hungrya s hell after watching this video lolol.

So, there is a local (Columbus GA area) specialty called a Scrambled Dog. It is a hot dog with the weiner cut into pieces and smothered in chili. It is usually served with mustard, pickles, oyster crackers, and sometimes onion on top. It is pretty messy and requires a spoon to eat it. That is the reason there is bread in there. BBQ places have their own spin on the SD. They usually cover it in chopped pork shoulder aka butt. This looks like an extra large version of that. You are right. It is fantastic but not for the weak stomachs among us. 😁

Adam , banana pudding is crazy simple to make : sliced bananas , mashed bananas , vanilla pudding and vanilla wafer cookies or really a vanilla cookie of your choice . But the mashed bananas you mix with the pudding afterwards fold in banana slices , add cookies refrigerate 2 hours ( whip topping , chocolate chip , chocolate syrup are optional )
Simple on your side of the pond! Never seen vanilla pudding or vanilla cookies over here ...

It’s usually the “Mom n Pop” shops that have the best food! They’ve usually been in business for a very long time and the food is the number 1 priority. The ambiance is always local flavor. In Wisconsin the best bar to drink at is the local dive bar for sure

A year late, but you are right, sir. At least in the south, the more run down the building is, the better the food. Fancy looking restaurants (in Louisiana) usually aren't that great in terms of the food. Those shacks that are hard to find because they don't have big signs for the place are almost always absolutely delicious.
That building you ate in was an old auto parts store way back in the day, long before Walmart and fast food joints. Loved the video and glad we could entertain you with our southern slang. And yes, calling your significant other “ol’ lady” is a compliment down here. Cheers🙂

For sure! In a city town near me, tons of restaurants, best BBQ is in a gas station that has a partition wall making a restaurant on one side, with about 6 booths, decor that is “1993 thrift shop leftovers” and the best BBQ you can get.

I don't think you will ever see this since this is an older video. OK as a retired Professional Executive Chef trained in Paris and now living in Florida, I just wanted to say you hit the nail right on the head about appearance. We love to take out the big motor coach and travel. Like I long winded said about my chosen profession, even though the coach is fully loaded with food we are always on the look out here in the south and mid west. Also ask anyone that looks like a local where they would eat if they wanted to. We will always direct you to the best of the best
