  • There are principles that will determine the success of a relationship, it's not luck, it's not magic. It's inevitable to have conflicts because of differences but differences are what make us relevant and interesting to others. To come together in a relationship, we have to be different from each other. But here are the 9 principles to create and maintain a healthy successful relationship:
    1. Positivity
    2. Values
    3. Humility
    4. Let someone change
    5. Respect
    6. Love
    7. Compassion
    8. Hardwork
    9. Fun

    This just reminded me of a situation with my husband many years ago when we were still passionate about viewpoints.. haha.. we would get into petty disagreements followed by cooling off periods. One day i approached him just minutes after a disagreement inviting him to have a cup of coffee with me.. he was still agrevated to a point but joined me in the back yard for coffee. He said, i cant understand how you can now act as if nothing happened. (We just had a disagreement about something, nothing really happened) and my answer surprised even me - i told him, well honey, i am not upset with you, i'm upset with the thing we quarelled about. You are ok.. which was true.. and we both agreed on that. This little situation had a huge impact on our relationship later... in a good way..

I listen daily as part of my morning routine affirmations and strive to find the positive in every situation no matter how hard it is and Dr. Jenkins is helping me through darkness that made me feel like non existence was better, but no more. I’m realizing my quirks and what I need to work on and how to recognize other’s behaviors and understand why we all do what we do. There is one thing I learned personally.
    10. understanding when it doesn't work and let go to find a better matching partner.
    A relationship will never be successful if you need to become someone else for it to work, if there is no common basis it will fail.
    Good sex alone is no common basis, it is nice but not what makes a long lasting relationship if you share nothing else.
    Relationships based on dependencies will certainly always fail, as they are destined to be be one-sided.
    Also you can't buy love, it never works.

    • @LiveOnPurposeTV
      @LiveOnPurposeTV  3 года назад +1

      Myrak Wulf, sometimes it is difficult to know when it is time to let go. People naturally want to try everything they can to keep it together. Part of the process is doing everything you can think of and then realizing it might not be enough.

      @@LiveOnPurposeTV this is absolutely understandable, yet humans only have a limited amount of time on this plane of existence.
      Considering this it would be kinda terrible to spend two or even more years in an unhappy relationship.
      Also there is the uncertainty of the future, that's why I am the opinion that people should focus on being happy now instead of hoping that time will fix things for them.
      Some things can be fixed by time, but a lot with adapting the mindset.
      Sleep is also important to process things that happened.
      Of course not everyone will agree to this, but for me is human life finite and thus every day matters.
      Also I like your videos, especially the one with overcoming anger helped me a lot to understand myself better.

    I have learned a lot from you and you explain things in simplest and most practical way, thank you. You inspire me. I have a question: in a relationship, is it possible for only one person to go on applying these principles and get the desired results? When the other is defensive to the point where the first is scared even to make a suggestion? Any attempts at communication result in more pain.

    • @LiveOnPurposeTV
      @LiveOnPurposeTV  6 лет назад +6

      Try to just do nice, thoughtful things for a few days, Faiza Khan. Don't expect any thank you's or comments, just do them because it makes you happy to do something for the other person. You know the old adage, "Actions speak louder than words."

    Thank you Dr. Paul for these wonderful insights. People usually get confused between love and respect. I heard from Daniel Khavasov's youtube share that love is feeling of oneness and respect is appreciation of the separateness / differences. What according to you is the key difference(s) between love and respect? Thank you

    • @LiveOnPurposeTV
      @LiveOnPurposeTV  Год назад

      Love to me is a little deeper and develops through shared experiences and is more of a relationship. Respect is general and given to everyone unless there is a reason not to.

    Any chance you could talk about respect more? I have male figures that confuse me on the idea of it, like I owe them something shortly after they made me upset. That I'm disrespectful because I'm hurt/shutdown/stop talking after they gave me a small trinket of appreciation a couple hours ago.

    Please please please redo this video but for the first 1 minute film it upside down (would need an upside down room set of course) with you hanging from something off screen and when you drop the ring it goes up. It would completely spoil your point actually, but it would be pretty funny :-)
    For a second I thought you might have done that and I was almost surprised when it went *down*. For example, Fred Astaire's classic upside down room dance: ruclips.net/video/ac6o8PXthzQ/видео.html
