One thing that I really like about MCM is they are so genuine. The friendships they have made over the years and continue to have is just amazing and says allot about these two gents. Al "Turbo Yoda" is a LEGEND and honestly is SO GOOD at what he does, to have him as a mentor would be like having Albert Einstein as your Math Tutor. He's that good. Then, Marty goes and talks to regular people that are the BEST at what they do, goes to their garage and asks for help. Having a Father and Son who builds these engines take the time out of their schedule to do this? LEGENDS. This show, I have been watching since the driveway days, has SO MANY Amazing People, to see them all come out to help MCM over the years is a testament to how the car community is not only in Australia but around the world. I for one, being from the USA, and admiring from afar not only the cars you build, but the friendships that you have made over the years. All I can say is, You Guys are Amazing, and you help so many people have a better day by just putting out a video and having these VERY SPECIAL people come on and help. All I can say is Thank You, and I SO MUCH appreciate how Humble Marty and Moog still are after all their success. Cheers to MCM and the whole car culture community from wherever you're from nothing but Respect to you all😎👍

As another non-downunder viewer I love these shows. They are far removed from the typical American show that feature 6 liter V8s at minimum and thousand HP daily drivers commonplace. Well to them maybe. Our open rules anything go's cars and trucks get boring after awhile. A monkey can build a hot LS or Hemi or Ford from a crate and online parts. Stuff them in the vehicle of choice and results on the timeslip depends on the weight of your wallet. That's not hot rodding to me. It's you taking the parts "cheaply" available and figuring out how to make them work. 30's cars with flathead and early small blocks. Moving to my age, rebuilding 396s to stuff in my 66 Chevelle or shoehorning a hot small block into Little Scott's Vega wagon. Putting headers on a 71 Mopar while flat on your back on a hot ass concrete driveway. That's hot rodding. What you guys do, while modern, is much more in keeping of hot rodding I grew up with. We swapped windshields in a car with a valid inspection sticker into our very not inspected Vega. The obstacles you have to overcome make it much more interesting. I fear that when rules like what you have to deal with come to the States there won't be the skills still around to get around them. Hot rodding will be dead in its birth place. But I think you blokes will still be working at it. Good on you, as they say.

Adding Al to a build is the automotive equivalent of going full nuclear. No task is safe, and he will decimate all problems.
I lost my dad just a week ago, he used to paint the Gems at GMH Acacia Ridge and had some of the best stories of the hijinks that went on among the guys and was one of the guys responsible for finding the problem with the 2 doors loose rear guard. And yes, he was shocked when they just fixed it with a lump of wood.
I really wanted to share this build series with him, just to hear him tell me more stories but sadly cancer got him before we had the chance. I still have some of his old paint inspector coats and a bunch of GMH memorabilia to remind me, but it is not the same as seeing him tell me with the joy and enthusiasm it brought him of being a part of Aussie history.

Gents. You took me back to 16yo. As the cork valve cover gasket was being freed, I thought, "I haven't seen one of those since..." My mind was quiet, as I watched younger me do the same thing. Then, with the first glimpse of the valve cover I knew exactly what that engine was. My first car (1979 Chevy LUV) developed a bad rod knock, and I got a clipped motor from Japan to replace it with. I had to swap almost everything over so it fit in my engine bay. I borrowed a shop in the back of my local parts house. I did the work (mostly) myself, and made a lot of mistakes. A couple months later the head gasket gave way, and I was back into it again. That little 1.8L Isuzu was perfect to learn on. At the time I was just frustrated, but now I see it was a turning point. So many times in my life I've thought, "I swapped an engine at 16yo, I can do this." Thanks for the trip down memory lane fellas!

i rember the holden Advertisments very well , i was in my teens during the 1980s and the geminis where every where. i was a 4 cyl guy. loved the gemini and datsun 1600s, i was either going to own a gemini or a 1600, eventually i brought a 1600, twin delortoes on a 2 ltr l20 , eventually turned that into a z18turbo with a 2.4 litr block, sadly never got the gemini, after the 1600 i had a 180b SSS, with z20 turbo , then a starion i hill climbed and super sprinted , 2.4 ltr engine with multipoint efi with a microtec ecu , always did my own work, couldnt aford to pay any one and due to this i learnt a lot along the way, plenty of tafe time through my 20s and 30s, with trade experience as a engine reconditioner, mechanic, auto electrics, bike mechanic, metal fab welding, , turbo charging , tig welding , wiring and tuning efi, haltecs, microtec, morristec , factory efi stuff, ls1 edit, hp tuners, suzuki hyabusa efi .
i had a moto, learn what you need to know then do it until you was good at it, saved a tone of money and learnt lots of stuff .

Great story about the C20XE and the Cosworth developed head. Bulletproof internals & forged pistons. While the smaller C16XE was developed by Lotus. They delivered it to Vauxhall with 150bhp. The suits at Vauxhall decided they couldn't have a 1.6lt overshadowing the bigger 2.0lt engines. Therefore it was strangled down to 109bhp by fitting the complicated inlet manifold, Milder cams, and they adjusted a few other things including the very aggressive map on the ecu.
Awesome built engines that can handle & deliver big power

At 2:22 you mention that a lot of good stuff comes out of Vic. Very true, but not Geminis. Every last Oz built Gem was from the Acacia Ridge plant in sunny Brisbane, Queensland. My old man started there in 1966 and was Plant Manager from 1979 until it closed in 1984. He is still going at 95 and still sharp. I used to go to work with him on Saturdays. I played in the factory and explored while he did his thing. I had the best set of cars to play with as a kid anyone could hope for. I will be showing him this build progress tonight.

We beat him but discovered an issue with the motor. It kinda blew up a bit. We nursed it home (25km into the bush), stripped the motor down and found number 2 cylinder in a bad way. Then, as we checked further, we discovered the baked concrete mud wasp nest in one of the oil channels...

    1. I almost forgot how much I missed Al's low, growling, reverby voice. Just one of the best and most hilarious people to walk the earth. Truly the GOATED Shop Dad anyone could ever ask for.
    2. I am loving that Marty and Moog decided to bring back some old pieces of Moog's music from the very first seasons through these episodes. They have truly mastered the art of audio placement in cinematography and have really emphasized the nostalgic feeling of Marty working on a car he once owned 25 years ago.
These songs have brought me back in time to when I was 17(I am now 31) and inspired to change the valve covers on my 2002 Subaru Legacy GT wagon by myself in my parents small shed that could only fit the front end after watching the white GT Liberty restoration video that morning.
