DL Hughley reacted to Michael Jai White suggesting Samuel L. Jackson could play almost every role Denzel Washington. DL Hughley praises Jackson as a great actor but maintains that Washington has a unique repertoire, mentioning iconic roles in which he played roles more convincingly than any other actor. The conclusion seems to be that both actors possess unique strengths and cannot be directly compared. Развлечения
Sam’s performance in A Time to Kill was Oscar worthy
Lmao
Nah frfr
That movie was great! I watched it twice!
no need for any comparisons…. and DL is right…
and there is no #1 black actor, sounds ignorant
Yes it was
Both are legends, let’s not compare
agreed they are both great
People shouldn't forget the lesser known but just as good as Denzil and S L Jackson, a very rare talent who goes by the name, Lenny Henry.
Why not? That’s what you do with arts and sports.
Amen
That's my Opinion also
So glad you said the Key word.. 💯
Imagine Samuel L Jackson in the equalizer "you got 10 sec MF" 🤣 🤣 🤣
Exactly. If some did Training Day the epic King Kong speech doesn't happen because it was improvised.
Sam Jackson changes his look, sometimes he’s funny, serious, action. He even appears on Star Wars, he’s that good.
He’s the same guy in every film. Even in Star Wars he’s the angry black man lol

Denzel plays himself in a lot of movies. Did he portray the real Frank Lucas accurately in AMERICAN GANGSTER?
Sam Jackson is not on the same level as Denzel
Yea Samuel Jackson can be mad underrated if you don't know his range and roles. I doubt Denzel could play a Jedi. And even though Samuel Jackson can play almost every role that Denzel has done, it's not to the same level but both are equally good at what they do in different ways. Both legendary af but I agree with DL for the most part they play the roles they choose the best
To play devil's advocate Samuel doesn't lead in the majority of his films like Denzel.
Who started this mess in trying to compare Two of Our Greatest male actors that have given us soo much. Oscar or not, RESPECT, RESPECT, RESPECT!!! Samuel Jackson should have gotten an oscar for his part in "A Time To Kill." Flowers 💐🙏💐🙏 for both Denzel Washington and Samuel Jackson and many more!!💝🦋
I still watch A Time To Kill to this day, definitely a favorite

Just like MJ AND BRON KOBE ETC.The media always turns us on each other
Welcome to the world, comparisons are a natural thing....if you think white ppl don't argue about who's better dinero or Pacino you're fooling yourself
Who started this mess? Culture vulture Vlad of course!
Samuel L Jackson is one of the great character actors of our time. He is a chameleon. Denzel Washington is one of the great movie stars of our time. Denzel is always Denzel in all his movies - the walk, the smile, that look is always present - except for Malcolm X when he did actually transform into the character and should have won the Oscar for that role. Comparing them is a fool's errand, they are both equally great and different.

I think Sam and Denzel are great but rarely transformative. Very few actors are transformative so it’s not an attack. I agree with don cheadle. He has shown more than Sam and Denzel.
I would’ve loved to see Denzel as Coach Carter “what is your deepest fear” 😂😂😂

He isn't as marketable, just like Jeffrey Wright, Nelson Ellis and Delroy Lindo. They all were amazing actors; you can argue they have or had (RIP to Nelson Ellis) more range as pure actors but never had the look of Denzel or Will Smith or Elba, and that's why some get underappreciated.

Samuel Jackson's range is phenomenal. I love Denzel, but you can't deny that Samuel is equal in talent.
Someone said it best Samuel is a supporting actor and Denzel is a leading actor and leading director too!!!
Yes you can! Samuel couldn’t have done Malcolm X, Mo Betta Blues, Philadelphia, He Got Game. Samuel L Jackson screams & yells, and has been in some of the worst movies ever made: Snakes on a Plane, Deep Blue Sea, 1408, Jumper 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
You absolutely can, there’s levels.
Denzel is on another level. he is the only actor that can use the same mannerisms in every movie but still makes u believe that its not him, the actor, but its the character doing that stuff, thats an unbelievable skill. thats why he tops anyone

Hold on.... Samuel L Jackson is a legend! He's right there.

In notoriety. Not in acting prowess.
Samuel L Jackson can only play one character... but he does it well
Not acting range wise! Sam could not have done TrainingDay, RememberTheTitans, MalcolmX, AmericanGangster, Fences, Glory, HeGotGame, TheSiege, AntoineFisher, CrimsonTide... stop it! Those movies would have a completely different tone with Sam. Sam is entertaining, but thats far different from the actor convencing you that the characters emotions are real
Washington is not only the best black actor he's the best actor in general
Denzel can play any role Sam can. The question is, “Does he want to?”.
That's a good question.
Bernie Mac in Ocean’s trilogy is closer to Samuel L Jackson; then Samuel is to Denzel. YALL must’ve forgotten: Snakes on a Plane, Deep Blue Sea, 1408, Jumper, Juice (small ass, easy ass role), Jurassic Park (small ass, easy ass role), Do the right thing (small ass, easy ass role).
Michael Jai has a point. It would be hard to see Denzel in Django. That roll Samuel killed it. The Hateful Eight. Sam does sinister like nobody’s business.
Can you see Sam as Malcolm X??? None of Sam’s work can equal that masterpiece!
@@BloodofEli🎯🔴⚫️🟢

Samuel Jackson playing training day is crazy 😂

@cortezlwhite8671 the speech at the end of training day wouldn't be the same and thats what wins him that oscar
Sam Jackson was ROBBED for Django Unchained. Him putting a face on Uncle Tom was unparalleled. It was amazing. Denzel is brilliant. Sam Jackson is a mfer too.

Denzel definitely has my vote over SJ. I remember when DW won his Oscar for Glory. Sidney Poitier was there that night. DW looked at Sidney and thanked him for being an inspiration and told him "I'm always chasing you." In other words: I'm always striving to be as great an actor and an inspiration to others as you've always been to me. Like Poitier, DW wanted to play parts with substance, men who were respected, dignified, men with strength, men with intelligence (i.e., Malcolm X, John Q, Trip from Glory, Bleak from Mo Better Blues, Alonzo from Training Day...). I also remember a Sidney Poitier interview from when I was a kid where he has declined certain parts because he wanted to play the role of men of distinction, respect, strength, education, intelligence... He said he noticed that Hollywood wasn't offering subservient/clownish/buffoonish roles to guys like Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, or Gregory Peck and he wanted that same respect and wouldn't accept anything less. Now with all that being said, as great as SJ is as an actor, I can't see DW playing a lot of SJ's parts like Stephen from Django or the robber from Coming To America or Gator from Jungle Fever or Neville from Snakes On A Plane or Lazarus from Black Snake Moan.
Denzel is my guy,SJ is nice tho.
DL's face when vlad said Fred the Hammer😂😂😂
Lol 😆, like are you serious??
As far as pure acting talent its Denzel easy
John Q , Malcolm X , Glory , American gangster , Fences and I think it’s called flight where he played a pilot
Some of the greatest acting performances I’ve seen
I think people get it twist while Sam is a good actor he's nowhere near Denzel's level , but on the the other hand the amount of money grossed by the movies Sam has been in Denzel's movies don't even come close to
Samuel all the way. Denzel doesn't even come close. Sam is a genius.

They are two different actors. Legends
They should not be compared! They both give something uniquely special to the roles they play. They are both number one at what they do and what they offer! PERIOD
Not having any Oscars doesn't make or break Sam's acting career as we all know to get those awards it's a popularity contests & alot of behind the scenes politics to get them
Sam Jackson wasn’t even the lead actor in Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Marvel movies. He’s a supporting character. Will Smith is the only black billion dollar box office star; followed by Denzel and Wesley Snipes as high grossing black leads.

1st of all I ❤ both Samuel L Jackson & Denzel Washington. Both are ICONIC!!! However, IMHO I think that both gentlemen should have Multiple Oscars. Denzel was robbed from winning an Oscar w/ Malcolm X & Hurricane. Samuel L Jackson should have an Oscar for Pulp Fiction, Django, Jackie Brown & possibly more. I can say that both gentlemen were Tailor made for their roles.
Sis, Denzel has two Oscars.
Both Denzel and Sam can play any of each others roles; talent wise. Appropriate wise is another story. It would just be a different version of the portrayal. At the end the right actor got the role. Now Jai White as Tyson was miscast, a Sonny Liston film would’ve suited him more. He was fair as Spawn and that’s about it.
DL is right. Love Samuel L Jackson, but Denzel is in a league of his own.

I didn't think about Don Cheadle. I agree with DL. I think Don has the most versatility. Not sure how to rank them, but those 3 are very close.
That small ass no words part. Lmao
The interesting thing about Training Day is that SLJ said that was offered to him first but he turned it down because he felt that he played a character like that before. Fences, I think he played that role in the original Broadway production. (I believe it was either him or Charles S. Dutton.)
It was actually James Earl Jones who did a better job than Denzel
@@Supreme468 ah you’re right! Thanks for the correction!

VLAD IS INTERVIEWING FAIZON ABOUT KATT WILLIAMS RIGHT NOW AS WE SPEAK. PART 1 WILL BE SATURDAY
There’s a difference between playing a role and being phenomenal in a role. The reason Denzel won the Oscar for Training Day was because he surpassed all expectations and evolved his versatility. Before Training Day Denzel always played sophisticated roles, he never played a grimy character(maybe in, "He Got Game") at that point and surprised everyone. Samuel L Jackson has this aesthetic to him where he ends up playing the same guy.
Sam Jackson done played everything from a crackhead to a scientist. He even be in outer space. I've never seen Denzel in space.

He's plays several people who had a criminal background or who are incredibly shady; He Got game, Malcom X ; American Gangster, A Soldiers Story, The Hurricane, Out of Time for that matter......and Training Day as well. Iwe're being honest, Denzel pretty much played a sophiscated guy in Training Day also. He was smart and if you look at it objectively was he really a bad guy? Robbing and getting rid of drugs dealers/ Role was more heroic than people realize. Really wasn't a stretch for him

That's not true. So, Denzel was Denzel in Might Quinn and Queen & Country? Plenty of other movies too. Samuel has played the same character in most of his movies. Except A Time to Kill, Long Kiss Goodnight and Fresh. Maybe some others but he usually plays the "angry funny black guy" in every role since the first time I have seen him in since Coming to America...

What makes denzel special is that he can take roles that other actors can do and of which most of us wouldn’t think nobody else can improve on but denzel can just come through and add a layer on something nobody thought there could be any improvement on, that’s what makes denzel special. Samuel L Jackson can surely do those roles that denzel take, I can see Samuel on training day but denzel just adds that “thing” that nobody else can

We need to stop the comparisons with our greats and just accept that they are all great regardless!
Well said my friend. Both great actors.
It's easier to see a supporting acting playing the main role than for the main actor to play the supporting role. Denzel wouldn't fit a lot of Sanuel's roles because everyone wants to see the star be the star
Two things to think about....a lot of Sam roles are of him cursing up a storm. Remove the cursing and think what's left. Is the acting as impactful without the cursing?
Denzel's achilles heal is probably comedy. I cannot imagine Denzel playing Rev. Fred Sultan (Samuel L. Jackson's character) in "The Great White Hype". Sam was hysterically funny!
Honorable mention for Forest Whitaker, he's GREAT!!

I can see Denzel doing Sam’s role in The Negotiator (he’s kinda done it already in John Q.). I can’t see Sam doing Denzel’s role in Mo’ Better Blues.
I’m wondering why he laughed when Vlad mentioned Fred the Hammer 😂😂😂
Can Sam play Othello? Possibly. However, some actors just make roles seem as of only they can play it. And, I agree with Michael on it being hard for Denzel to act in certain roles that Sam played as well. ("Django," being one of.)

Apples vs Oranges. I don't picture Sam in Ricochet or Denzel in Jurassic Park. Denzel just cussing at Dinosaurs? 😂😂😂
Those two roles are probably the most generic roles of both of their careers. At least if we don't count some small indie movies. Like they did great job in the roles but I think there is atleast a couple of dozen actors who could have replaced them. Like Samuel can't really cuss or freak out because its a family movie and is just mildly annoyed for five minutes and gets killed of screen. In Richochet Denzel is just a generic thriller cop acainst a crazy psycho. I think the only reason they could not switch with each other in my mind is that Samuel is never going to get shredded for any role like Denzel did for that movie.
